1Dit is die boek van die geslagte van Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in His own likeness. 2Man en vrou het Hy hulle geskep, en Hy het hulle geseën en hulle naam Adam genoem op die dag toe hulle geskep is.

6En Set het 105 jaar geleef, en hy het Enos verwek.וַֽיְחִי־שֵׁ֕ת חָמֵ֥שׁ שָׁנִ֖ים וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־אֱנֽוֹשׁ׃When Seth was 105 years old, he became the father of Enosh. 7En Set het, nadat hy Enos verwek het, 807 jaar geleef en seuns en dogters verwek.וַֽיְחִי־שֵׁ֗ת אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־אֱנ֔וֹשׁ שֶׁ֣בַע שָׁנִ֔ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃And after he had become the father of Enosh, Seth lived 807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8En al die dae van Set was 912 jaar, en hy het gesterf.וַיִּֽהְיוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵי־שֵׁ֔ת שְׁתֵּ֤ים עֶשְׂרֵה֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּתְשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ סSo Seth lived a total of 912 years, and then he died.

9En Enos het 90 jaar geleef, en hy het Kenan verwek.וַֽיְחִ֥י אֱנ֖וֹשׁ תִּשְׁעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־קֵינָֽן׃When Enosh was 90 years old, he became the father of Kenan. 10En Enos het, nadat hy Kenan verwek het, 815 jaar geleef en seuns en dogters verwek.וַֽיְחִ֣י אֱנ֗וֹשׁ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־קֵינָ֔ן חֲמֵ֤שׁ עֶשְׂרֵה֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃And after he had become the father of Kenan, Enosh lived 815 years and had other sons and daughters. 11En al die dae van Enos was 905 jaar, en hy het gesterf.וַיִּֽהְיוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵ֣י אֱנ֔וֹשׁ חָמֵ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֔ים וּתְשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ סSo Enosh lived a total of 905 years, and then he died.

12En Kenan het 70 jaar geleef, en hy het Mahalaleël verwek.וַֽיְחִ֥י קֵינָ֖ן שִׁבְעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־מַֽהֲלַלְאֵֽל׃When Kenan was 70 years old, he became the father of Mahalalel. 13En Kenan het, nadat hy Mahalalel verwek het, 840 jaar geleef en seuns en dogters verwek.וַיְחִ֣י קֵינָ֗ן אַחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־מַֽהֲלַלְאֵ֔ל אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃And after he had become the father of Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and daughters. 14En al die dae van Kenan was 910 jaar, en hy het gesterf.וַיִּֽהְיוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵ֣י קֵינָ֔ן עֶ֣שֶׂר שָׁנִ֔ים וּתְשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ סSo Kenan lived a total of 910 years, and then he died.

15En Mahalaleël het 65 jaar geleef, en hy het Jered verwek.וַֽיְחִ֣י מַֽהֲלַלְאֵ֔ל חָמֵ֥שׁ שָׁנִ֖ים וְשִׁשִּׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־יָֽרֶד׃When Mahalalel was 65 years old, he became the father of Jared. 16En Mahalalel het, nadat hy Jered verwek het, 830 jaar geleef en seuns en dogters verwek.וַֽיְחִ֣י מַֽהֲלַלְאֵ֗ל אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־יֶ֔רֶד שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃And after he had become the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. 17En al die dae van Mahalalel was 895 jaar, en hy het gesterf.וַיִּהְיוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵ֣י מַהֲלַלְאֵ֔ל חָמֵ֤שׁ וְתִשְׁעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ סSo Mahalalel lived a total of 895 years, and then he died.

18En Jered het 162 jaar geleef, en hy het Henog verwek.וַֽיְחִי־יֶ֕רֶד שְׁתַּ֧יִם וְשִׁשִּׁ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־חֲנֽוֹךְ׃When Jared was 162 years old, he became the father of Enoch. 19En Jered het, nadat hy Henog verwek het, 800 jaar geleef en seuns en dogters verwek.וַֽיְחִי־יֶ֗רֶד אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־חֲנ֔וֹךְ שְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃And after he had become the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20En al die dae van Jered was 962 jaar, en hy het gesterf.וַיִּֽהְיוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵי־יֶ֔רֶד שְׁתַּ֤יִם וְשִׁשִּׁים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּתְשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ פSo Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died.

21En Henog het 65 jaar geleef, en hy het Metuselag verwek.וַֽיְחִ֣י חֲנ֔וֹךְ חָמֵ֥שׁ וְשִׁשִּׁ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־מְתוּשָֽׁלַח׃When Enoch was 65 years old, he became the father of Methuselah. 22En Henog het met God gewandel ná sy verwekking van Metuselag, 300 jaar lank, en hy het seuns en dogters verwek.וַיִּתְהַלֵּ֨ךְ חֲנ֜וֹךְ אֶת־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֗ים אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃And after he had become the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23En al die dae van Henog was 365 jaar.וַיְהִ֖י כָּל־יְמֵ֣י חֲנ֑וֹךְ חָמֵ֤שׁ וְשִׁשִּׁים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָֽה׃So Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24En Henog het met God gewandel, en hy was nie meer nie, want God het hom geneem.

וַיִּתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ חֲנ֖וֹךְ אֶת־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְאֵינֶ֕נּוּ כִּֽי־לָקַ֥ח אֹת֖וֹ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ פEnoch walked with God, and then he was no more, because God had taken him away.

25En Metuselag het 187 jaar geleef, en hy het Lemek verwek.וַיְחִ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח שֶׁ֧בַע וּשְׁמֹנִ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד אֶת־לָֽמֶךְ׃When Methuselah was 187 years old, he became the father of Lamech. 26En Metuselag het ná sy verwekking van Lemek 782 jaar geleef, en hy het seuns en dogters verwek.וַֽיְחִ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֗לַח אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־לֶ֔מֶךְ שְׁתַּ֤יִם וּשְׁמוֹנִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃And after he had become the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters. 27En al die dae van Metuselag was 969 jaar, en hy het gesterf.וַיִּהְיוּ֙ כָּל־יְמֵ֣י מְתוּשֶׁ֔לַח תֵּ֤שַׁע וְשִׁשִּׁים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּתְשַׁ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ פSo Methuselah lived a total of 969 years, and then he died.

28En Lemek het 182 jaar geleef, en hy het 'n seun verwek.וַֽיְחִי־לֶ֕מֶךְ שְׁתַּ֧יִם וּשְׁמֹנִ֛ים שָׁנָ֖ה וּמְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֖וֹלֶד בֵּֽן׃When Lamech was 182 years old, he had a son. 29En hy het sy naam Noag genoem en gesê: “Hierdie een sal ons troos in ons werk en in die smart van ons hande, uit die grond wat die HERE vervloek het.”

Die naam beteken Die naam Noag klink soos die Hebreeuse woord vir troos.

וַיִּקְרָ֧א אֶת־שְׁמ֛וֹ נֹ֖חַ לֵאמֹ֑ר זֶ֞֠ה יְנַחֲמֵ֤נוּ מִֽמַּעֲשֵׂ֨נוּ֙ וּמֵעִצְּב֣וֹן יָדֵ֔ינוּ מִן־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵֽרְרָ֖הּ יְהוָֽה׃And he named him Noah, saying, “May this one comfort us in the labor and toil of our hands caused by the ground that the LORD has cursed.” 30En Lemek het ná sy verwekking van Noag 595 jaar geleef, en hy het seuns en dogters verwek.וַֽיְחִי־לֶ֗מֶךְ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ הוֹלִיד֣וֹ אֶת־נֹ֔חַ חָמֵ֤שׁ וְתִשְׁעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֹ֖ת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיּ֥וֹלֶד בָּנִ֖ים וּבָנֽוֹת׃And after he had become the father of Noah, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters. 31En al die dae van Lemek was 777 jaar, en hy het gesterf.וַֽיְהִי֙ כָּל־יְמֵי־לֶ֔מֶךְ שֶׁ֤בַע וְשִׁבְעִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵא֖וֹת שָׁנָ֑ה וַיָּמֹֽת׃ סSo Lamech lived a total of 777 years, and then he died.

32En Noag was 500 jaar oud, en Noag het Sem, Gam en Jafet verwek.
