Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan. All these were descendants of Keturah.5En Abraham het alles wat hy gehad het aan Isak gegee. But while he was still alive, Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the east.
Abraham lived a total of 175 years.8En Abraham het uitgeblaas en gesterf in 'n goeie gryse ouderdom, oud en versadig, en hy is by sy volk versamel.aLetterlik: Abraham het sy asem uitgeblaas. And at a ripe old age he breathed his last and died, old and contented, and was gathered to his people.9En sy seuns Isak en Ismael het hom begrawe in die grot van Makpela, in die veld van Efron, die seun van Sohar, die Hetiet, wat voor Mamre lê,וַיִּקְבְּר֨וּ אֹת֜וֹ יִצְחָ֤ק וְיִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ בָּנָ֔יו אֶל־מְעָרַ֖ת הַמַּכְפֵּלָ֑ה אֶל־שְׂדֵ֞ה עֶפְרֹ֤ן בֶּן־צֹ֨חַר֙ הַֽחִתִּ֔י אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֥י מַמְרֵֽא׃His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite.10die veld wat Abraham van die seuns van Het gekoop het. Abraham was buried there with his wife Sarah.
After Abraham’s death, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near Beer-lahai-roi.
This is the account of Abraham’s son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s maidservant, bore to Abraham.13En dit is die name van die seuns van Ismael, volgens hulle name, volgens hulle geslagte: die eersgeborene van Ismael, Nebajot; en Kedar en Adbeël en Mibsam,וְאֵ֗לֶּה שְׁמוֹת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׁמָעֵ֔אל בִּשְׁמֹתָ֖ם לְתוֹלְדֹתָ֑ם בְּכֹ֤ר יִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ נְבָיֹ֔ת וְקֵדָ֥ר וְאַדְבְּאֵ֖ל וּמִבְשָֽׂם׃These are the names of the sons of Ishmael in the order of their birth: Nebaioth the firstborn of Ishmael, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,14en Misma en Duma en Massa,וּמִשְׁמָ֥ע וְדוּמָ֖ה וּמַשָּֽׂא׃Mishma, Dumah, Massa,15Hadad en Tema, Jetur, Nafis en Kedma. These were the sons of Ishmael, and these were their names by their villages and encampments—twelve princes of their tribes.17En dit is die jare van die lewe van Ismael: 137 jaar. Ishmael lived a total of 137 years. Then he breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.18En hulle het gewoon van Hawila af tot by Sur, wat teenoor Egipte lê, in die rigting van Assur. Ishmael’s descendants settled from Havilah to Shur, which is near the border of Egypt as you go toward Asshur. And they lived in hostility toward all their brothers.
This is the account of Abraham’s son Isaac. Abraham became the father of Isaac,20En Isak was 40 jaar oud toe hy Rebekka, die dogter van Betuel, die Aramees, van Paddan-Aram, die suster van Laban, die Aramees, vir hom as vrou geneem het.וַיְהִ֤י יִצְחָק֙ בֶּן־אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה בְּקַחְתּ֣וֹ אֶת־רִבְקָ֗ה בַּת־בְּתוּאֵל֙ הָֽאֲרַמִּ֔י מִפַּדַּ֖ן אֲרָ֑ם אֲח֛וֹת לָבָ֥ן הָאֲרַמִּ֖י ל֥וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram and the sister of Laban the Aramean.
Later, Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. And the LORD heard his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived.22En die seuns het in haar binneste teen mekaar gestoot. But the children inside her struggled with each other, and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” So Rebekah went to inquire of the LORD,23En die HERE het vir haar gesê: “Twee nasies is in jou buik, en twee volke sal uit jou ingewande geskei word. וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה לָ֗הּ שְׁנֵ֤י בְּבִטְנֵ֔ךְ וּשְׁנֵ֣י לְאֻמִּ֔ים מִמֵּעַ֖יִךְ יִפָּרֵ֑דוּ וּלְאֹם֙ מִלְאֹ֣ם יֶֽאֱמָ֔ץ וְרַ֖ב יַעֲבֹ֥ד צָעִֽיר׃and He declared to her: “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”24En toe haar dae vol was om te baar, kyk, daar was tweelinge in haar buik. When her time came to give birth, there were indeed twins in her womb.25En die eerste het uitgekom, rooierig, heeltemal soos 'n mantel van hare. En hulle het sy naam Esau genoem. The first one came out red, covered with hair like a fur coat; so they named him Esau.26En daarna het sy broer uitgekom, met sy hand vasgegrip aan die hak van Esau; en hy het sy naam Jakob genoem. After this, his brother came out grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. And Isaac was sixty years old when the twins were born.
27En die seuns het groot geword, en Esau het 'n man geword wat die jag ken, 'n man van die veld; maar Jakob was 'n opregte man, wat in tente bly.aOf: 'n rustige man. When the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man who stayed at home.28En Isak het Esau liefgehad, want wild was in sy mond; maar Rebekka het Jakob liefgehad. Because Isaac had a taste for wild game, he loved Esau; but Rebekah loved Jacob.
One day, while Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the field and was famished.30En Esau het vir Jakob gesê: “Laat my tog sluk van die rooi, hierdie rooi, want ek is uitgeput.” Daarom is sy naam Edom genoem.aDie naam beteken Die naam Edom beteken “rooi”. He said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am famished.” (That is why he was also called Edom. )31Toe sê Jakob: “Verkoop vandag jou eersgeboortereg aan my.”וַיֹּ֖אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֑ב מִכְרָ֥ה כַיּ֛וֹם אֶת־בְּכֹֽרָתְךָ֖ לִֽי׃“First sell me your birthright,” Jacob replied.32En Esau het gesê: “Kyk, ek gaan sterf, en waarvoor is 'n eersgeboortereg dan vir my?”וַיֹּ֣אמֶר עֵשָׂ֔ו הִנֵּ֛ה אָנֹכִ֥י הוֹלֵ֖ךְ לָמ֑וּת וְלָמָּה־זֶּ֥ה לִ֖י בְּכֹרָֽה׃“Look,” said Esau, “I am about to die, so what good is a birthright to me?”33Toe sê Jakob: “Sweer vandag vir my.” וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֗ב הִשָּׁ֤בְעָה לִּי֙ כַּיּ֔וֹם וַיִּשָּׁבַ֖ע ל֑וֹ וַיִּמְכֹּ֥ר אֶת־בְּכֹרָת֖וֹ לְיַעֲקֹֽב׃“Swear to me first,” Jacob said. So Esau swore to Jacob and sold him the birthright.34En Jakob het vir Esau brood en 'n bredie van lensies gegee, en hy het geëet en gedrink en opgestaan en weggegaan. So het Esau die eersgeboortereg verag. Then Jacob gave some bread and lentil stew to Esau, who ate and drank and then got up and went away. Thus Esau despised his birthright.
