1En Abram was 99 jaar oud, en die HERE het aan Abram verskyn en vir hom gesê: “Ek is God, die Almagtige. Walk before Me and be blameless.2En Ek sal My verbond tussen My en jou stel, en Ek sal jou baie, baie vermeerder.”וְאֶתְּנָ֥ה בְרִיתִ֖י בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֑ךָ וְאַרְבֶּ֥ה אוֹתְךָ֖ בִּמְאֹ֥ד מְאֹֽד׃I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.”3Abram het op sy aangesig geval, en God het met hom gepraat en gesê:וַיִּפֹּ֥ל אַבְרָ֖ם עַל־פָּנָ֑יו וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אִתּ֛וֹ אֱלֹהִ֖ים לֵאמֹֽר׃Then Abram fell facedown, and God said to him,4“Wat My betref, kyk, My verbond is met jou, en jy sal ’n vader wees van ’n menigte nasies.אֲנִ֕י הִנֵּ֥ה בְרִיתִ֖י אִתָּ֑ךְ וְהָיִ֕יתָ לְאַ֖ב הֲמ֥וֹן גּוֹיִֽם׃“As for Me, this is My covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations.5En jou naam sal nie meer Abram genoem word nie, maar jou naam sal Abraham wees, want Ek het jou ’n vader van ’n menigte nasies gemaak.aDie naam beteken ‘vader van ’n menigte’, wat soos Abraham klink.וְלֹא־יִקָּרֵ֥א ע֛וֹד אֶת־שִׁמְךָ֖ אַבְרָ֑ם וְהָיָ֤ה שִׁמְךָ֙ אַבְרָהָ֔ם כִּ֛י אַב־הֲמ֥וֹן גּוֹיִ֖ם נְתַתִּֽיךָ׃No longer will you be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.6En Ek sal jou baie, baie vrugbaar maak en Ek sal jou tot nasies maak, en konings sal uit jou voortkom.וְהִפְרֵתִ֤י אֹֽתְךָ֙ בִּמְאֹ֣ד מְאֹ֔ד וּנְתַתִּ֖יךָ לְגוֹיִ֑ם וּמְלָכִ֖ים מִמְּךָ֥ יֵצֵֽאוּ׃I will make you exceedingly fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will descend from you.7En Ek sal My verbond oprig tussen My en jou en tussen jou nageslag ná jou, in hulle geslagte, as ’n ewige verbond, om vir jou en vir jou nageslag ná jou God te wees.וַהֲקִמֹתִ֨י אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֜י בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֗ךָ וּבֵ֨ין זַרְעֲךָ֧ אַחֲרֶ֛יךָ לְדֹרֹתָ֖ם לִבְרִ֣ית עוֹלָ֑ם לִהְי֤וֹת לְךָ֙ לֵֽאלֹהִ֔ים וּֽלְזַרְעֲךָ֖ אַחֲרֶֽיךָ׃I will establish My covenant as an everlasting covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.8En Ek sal aan jou en aan jou nageslag ná jou die land van jou vreemdelingskap gee, die hele land Kanaän, as ’n ewige besitting, en Ek sal vir hulle God wees.”וְנָתַתִּ֣י לְ֠ךָ וּלְזַרְעֲךָ֨ אַחֲרֶ֜יךָ אֵ֣ת׀ אֶ֣רֶץ מְגֻרֶ֗יךָ אֵ֚ת כָּל־אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנַ֔עַן לַאֲחֻזַּ֖ת עוֹלָ֑ם וְהָיִ֥יתִי לָהֶ֖ם לֵאלֹהִֽים׃And to you and your descendants I will give the land where you are residing—all the land of Canaan—as an eternal possession; and I will be their God.”
9Verder het God vir Abraham gesê: “En jy, jy moet My verbond onderhou, jy en jou nageslag ná jou, in hulle geslagte.וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֔ם וְאַתָּ֖ה אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֣י תִשְׁמֹ֑ר אַתָּ֛ה וְזַרְעֲךָ֥ אַֽחֲרֶ֖יךָ לְדֹרֹתָֽם׃God also said to Abraham, “You must keep My covenant—you and your descendants in the generations after you.10Dit is My verbond wat julle moet onderhou tussen My en julle en tussen jou nageslag ná jou: elke manlike onder julle moet besny word.זֹ֣את בְּרִיתִ֞י אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּשְׁמְר֗וּ בֵּינִי֙ וּבֵ֣ינֵיכֶ֔ם וּבֵ֥ין זַרְעֲךָ֖ אַחֲרֶ֑יךָ הִמּ֥וֹל לָכֶ֖ם כָּל־זָכָֽר׃This is My covenant with you and your descendants after you, which you are to keep: Every male among you must be circumcised.11Julle moet die vlees van julle voorhuid besny, en dit sal ’n teken van die verbond wees tussen My en julle.וּנְמַלְתֶּ֕ם אֵ֖ת בְּשַׂ֣ר עָרְלַתְכֶ֑ם וְהָיָה֙ לְא֣וֹת בְּרִ֔ית בֵּינִ֖י וּבֵינֵיכֶֽם׃You are to circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and this will be a sign of the covenant between Me and you.12Op agt dae oud moet elke manlike onder julle besny word, in julle geslagte: die een wat in die huis gebore is en die een wat met silwer gekoop is van enige seun van ’n vreemde wat nie van jou nageslag is nie.aLetterlik: ’n seun van agt dae.וּבֶן־שְׁמֹנַ֣ת יָמִ֗ים יִמּ֥וֹל לָכֶ֛ם כָּל־זָכָ֖ר לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶ֑ם יְלִ֣יד בָּ֔יִת וּמִקְנַת־כֶּ֨סֶף֙ מִכֹּ֣ל בֶּן־נֵכָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹ֥א מִֽזַּרְעֲךָ֖ הֽוּא׃Generation after generation, every male must be circumcised when he is eight days old, including those born in your household and those purchased from a foreigner—even those who are not your offspring.13Hy moet beslis besny word, die een wat in jou huis gebore is en die een wat met jou silwer gekoop is. So sal My verbond in julle vlees wees as ’n ewige verbond.הִמּ֧וֹל׀ יִמּ֛וֹל יְלִ֥יד בֵּֽיתְךָ֖ וּמִקְנַ֣ת כַּסְפֶּ֑ךָ וְהָיְתָ֧ה בְרִיתִ֛י בִּבְשַׂרְכֶ֖ם לִבְרִ֥ית עוֹלָֽם׃Whether they are born in your household or purchased, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh will be an everlasting covenant.14En ’n onbesnede manlike, wat die vlees van sy voorhuid nie besny nie, daardie persoon sal van sy volk afgesny word; hy het My verbond verbreek.”aLetterlik: van sy volke.וְעָרֵ֣ל׀ זָכָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־יִמּוֹל֙ אֶת־בְּשַׂ֣ר עָרְלָת֔וֹ וְנִכְרְתָ֛ה הַנֶּ֥פֶשׁ הַהִ֖וא מֵעַמֶּ֑יהָ אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֖י הֵפַֽר׃ סBut if any male is not circumcised, he will be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.”
15Verder het God vir Abraham gesê: “Sarai, jou vrou — jy moet haar naam nie Sarai noem nie, want Sara is haar naam.וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֔ם שָׂרַ֣י אִשְׁתְּךָ֔ לֹא־תִקְרָ֥א אֶת־שְׁמָ֖הּ שָׂרָ֑י כִּ֥י שָׂרָ֖ה שְׁמָֽהּ׃Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, do not call her Sarai, for her name is to be Sarah.16Ek sal haar seën, en ook uit haar sal Ek vir jou ’n seun gee; Ek sal haar seën, en sy sal tot nasies word; konings van volke sal uit haar kom.”וּבֵרַכְתִּ֣י אֹתָ֔הּ וְגַ֨ם נָתַ֧תִּי מִמֶּ֛נָּה לְךָ֖ בֵּ֑ן וּבֵֽרַכְתִּ֨יהָ֙ וְהָֽיְתָ֣ה לְגוֹיִ֔ם מַלְכֵ֥י עַמִּ֖ים מִמֶּ֥נָּה יִהְיֽוּ׃And I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her, and she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will descend from her.”
17Toe het Abraham op sy aangesig geval en gelag, en in sy hart gesê: “Sal vir ’n man van 100 jaar ’n kind gebore word? En sal Sara, ’n vrou van 90 jaar, baar?”aLetterlik: Sal ’n seun van 100 jaar gebore word? En sal Sara, ’n dogter van 90 jaar, baar?וַיִּפֹּ֧ל אַבְרָהָ֛ם עַל־פָּנָ֖יו וַיִּצְחָ֑ק וַיֹּ֣אמֶר בְּלִבּ֗וֹ הַלְּבֶ֤ן מֵאָֽה־שָׁנָה֙ יִוָּלֵ֔ד וְאִ֨ם־שָׂרָ֔ה הֲבַת־תִּשְׁעִ֥ים שָׁנָ֖ה תֵּלֵֽד׃Abraham fell facedown. Then he laughed and said to himself, “Can a child be born to a man who is a hundred years old? Can Sarah give birth at the age of ninety?”18En Abraham het vir God gesê: “Mag Ismael tog voor U aangesig lewe!”וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶל־הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים ל֥וּ יִשְׁמָעֵ֖אל יִחְיֶ֥ה לְפָנֶֽיךָ׃And Abraham said to God, “O that Ishmael might live under Your blessing!”19Toe sê God: “Nee, maar Sara, jou vrou, sal vir jou ’n seun baar, en jy moet sy naam Isak noem; en Ek sal My verbond met hom oprig as ’n ewige verbond vir sy nageslag ná hom.aDie naam beteken hy lag.וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֗ים אֲבָל֙ שָׂרָ֣ה אִשְׁתְּךָ֗ יֹלֶ֤דֶת לְךָ֙ בֵּ֔ן וְקָרָ֥אתָ אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ יִצְחָ֑ק וַהֲקִמֹתִ֨י אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֥י אִתּ֛וֹ לִבְרִ֥ית עוֹלָ֖ם לְזַרְע֥וֹ אַחֲרָֽיו׃But God replied, “Your wife Sarah will indeed bear you a son, and you are to name him Isaac. I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.20En wat Ismael betref, Ek het jou gehoor. Kyk, Ek het hom geseën, en Ek sal hom vrugbaar maak en hom baie, baie vermeerder; twaalf vorste sal hy verwek, en Ek sal hom ’n groot nasie maak.aDie naam beteken ‘God hoor’.וּֽלְיִשְׁמָעֵ֘אל שְׁמַעְתִּיךָ֒ הִנֵּ֣ה׀ בֵּרַ֣כְתִּי אֹת֗וֹ וְהִפְרֵיתִ֥י אֹת֛וֹ וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֥י אֹת֖וֹ בִּמְאֹ֣ד מְאֹ֑ד שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂ֤ר נְשִׂיאִם֙ יוֹלִ֔יד וּנְתַתִּ֖יו לְג֥וֹי גָּדֽוֹל׃As for Ishmael, I have heard you, and I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and multiply him greatly. He will become the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation.21Maar My verbond sal Ek met Isak oprig, wat Sara vir jou sal baar op hierdie vasgestelde tyd in die volgende jaar.”וְאֶת־בְּרִיתִ֖י אָקִ֣ים אֶת־יִצְחָ֑ק אֲשֶׁר֩ תֵּלֵ֨ד לְךָ֤ שָׂרָה֙ לַמּוֹעֵ֣ד הַזֶּ֔ה בַּשָּׁנָ֖ה הָאַחֶֽרֶת׃But I will establish My covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year.”22Toe Hy klaar was om met hom te praat, het God van Abraham af opgegaan.וַיְכַ֖ל לְדַבֵּ֣ר אִתּ֑וֹ וַיַּ֣עַל אֱלֹהִ֔ים מֵעַ֖ל אַבְרָהָֽם׃When He had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.
23Toe het Abraham sy seun Ismael geneem en almal wat in sy huis gebore is en almal wat met sy silwer gekoop is, elke manlike onder die manne van Abraham se huis, en hy het die vlees van hulle voorhuid besny op dieselfde dag, soos God met hom gepraat het.aLetterlik: in die been van hierdie dag.וַיִּקַּ֨ח אַבְרָהָ֜ם אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בְּנ֗וֹ וְאֵ֨ת כָּל־יְלִידֵ֤י בֵיתוֹ֙ וְאֵת֙ כָּל־מִקְנַ֣ת כַּסְפּ֔וֹ כָּל־זָכָ֕ר בְּאַנְשֵׁ֖י בֵּ֣ית אַבְרָהָ֑ם וַיָּ֜מָל אֶת־בְּשַׂ֣ר עָרְלָתָ֗ם בְּעֶ֨צֶם֙ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר אִתּ֖וֹ אֱלֹהִֽים׃On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or purchased with his money—every male among the members of Abraham’s household—and he circumcised them, just as God had told him.24En Abraham was 99 jaar oud toe hy aan die vlees van sy voorhuid besny is.וְאַ֨בְרָהָ֔ם בֶּן־תִּשְׁעִ֥ים וָתֵ֖שַׁע שָׁנָ֑ה בְּהִמֹּל֖וֹ בְּשַׂ֥ר עָרְלָתֽוֹ׃So Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised,25En sy seun Ismael was dertien jaar oud toe hy aan die vlees van sy voorhuid besny is.וְיִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בְּנ֔וֹ בֶּן־שְׁלֹ֥שׁ עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה שָׁנָ֑ה בְּהִ֨מֹּל֔וֹ אֵ֖ת בְּשַׂ֥ר עָרְלָתֽוֹ׃and his son Ishmael was thirteen;26Op dieselfde dag is Abraham besny, en Ismael, sy seun.aLetterlik: in die been van hierdie dag.בְּעֶ֨צֶם֙ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה נִמּ֖וֹל אַבְרָהָ֑ם וְיִשְׁמָעֵ֖אל בְּנֽוֹ׃Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised on the same day.27En al die manne van sy huis, die een wat in die huis gebore is en die een wat met silwer van ’n vreemde gekoop is, is saam met hom besny.וְכָל־אַנְשֵׁ֤י בֵיתוֹ֙ יְלִ֣יד בָּ֔יִת וּמִקְנַת־כֶּ֖סֶף מֵאֵ֣ת בֶּן־נֵכָ֑ר נִמֹּ֖לוּ אִתּֽוֹ׃ פAnd all the men of Abraham’s household—both servants born in his household and those purchased from foreigners—were circumcised with him.
