1Jy mag nie ’n vals gerug dra nie. Moenie jou hand saam met ’n goddelose sit om ’n getuie van geweld te wees nie.לֹ֥א תִשָּׂ֖א שֵׁ֣מַע שָׁ֑וְא אַל־תָּ֤שֶׁת יָֽדְךָ֙ עִם־רָשָׁ֔ע לִהְיֹ֖ת עֵ֥ד חָמָֽס׃ ס“You shall not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked by being a malicious witness. 2Jy mag nie agter die menigte aan wees om kwaad te doen nie, en jy mag in ’n regsaak nie antwoord deur agter die menigte aan af te buig nie, om af te buig.לֹֽא־תִהְיֶ֥ה אַחֲרֵֽי־רַבִּ֖ים לְרָעֹ֑ת וְלֹא־תַעֲנֶ֣ה עַל־רִ֗ב לִנְטֹ֛ת אַחֲרֵ֥י רַבִּ֖ים לְהַטֹּֽת׃You shall not follow the crowd in wrongdoing. When you testify in a lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd. 3En ’n arme mag jy nie in sy regsaak begunstig nie.וְדָ֕ל לֹ֥א תֶהְדַּ֖ר בְּרִיבֽוֹ׃ סAnd do not show favoritism to a poor man in his lawsuit.

4Wanneer jy die os van jou vyand of sy donkie teëkom wat ronddwaal, moet jy dit beslis vir hom terugbring.כִּ֣י תִפְגַּ֞ע שׁ֧וֹר אֹֽיִבְךָ֛ א֥וֹ חֲמֹר֖וֹ תֹּעֶ֑ה הָשֵׁ֥ב תְּשִׁיבֶ֖נּוּ לֽוֹ׃ סIf you encounter your enemy’s stray ox or donkey, you must return it to him.

5Wanneer jy die donkie van iemand wat jou haat, onder sy las sien lê, en jy sou nalaat om dit vir hom los te maak, moet jy dit beslis saam met hom losmaak.

כִּֽי־תִרְאֶ֞ה חֲמ֣וֹר שֹׂנַאֲךָ֗ רֹבֵץ֙ תַּ֣חַת מַשָּׂא֔וֹ וְחָדַלְתָּ֖ מֵעֲזֹ֣ב ל֑וֹ עָזֹ֥ב תַּעֲזֹ֖ב עִמּֽוֹ׃ סIf you see the donkey of one who hates you fallen under its load, do not leave it there; you must help him with it.

6Jy mag nie die reg van jou behoeftige in sy regsaak verdraai nie.לֹ֥א תַטֶּ֛ה מִשְׁפַּ֥ט אֶבְיֹנְךָ֖ בְּרִיבֽוֹ׃You shall not deny justice to the poor in their lawsuits. 7Hou jou ver van ’n valse saak af, en moenie die onskuldige en die regverdige doodmaak nie, want Ek sal die skuldige nie regverdig verklaar nie.מִדְּבַר־שֶׁ֖קֶר תִּרְחָ֑ק וְנָקִ֤י וְצַדִּיק֙ אַֽל־תַּהֲרֹ֔ג כִּ֥י לֹא־אַצְדִּ֖יק רָשָֽׁע׃Stay far away from a false accusation. Do not kill the innocent or the just, for I will not acquit the guilty. 8En jy mag geen omkoopgeskenk aanneem nie, want die omkoopgeskenk maak siendes blind en verdraai die woorde van regverdiges.וְשֹׁ֖חַד לֹ֣א תִקָּ֑ח כִּ֤י הַשֹּׁ֨חַד֙ יְעַוֵּ֣ר פִּקְחִ֔ים וִֽיסַלֵּ֖ף דִּבְרֵ֥י צַדִּיקִֽים׃Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds those who see and twists the words of the righteous. 9En ’n vreemdeling mag jy nie verdruk nie; julle self ken die siel van die vreemdeling, want julle was vreemdelinge in die land Egipte.וְגֵ֖ר לֹ֣א תִלְחָ֑ץ וְאַתֶּ֗ם יְדַעְתֶּם֙ אֶת־נֶ֣פֶשׁ הַגֵּ֔ר כִּֽי־גֵרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם בְּאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃Do not oppress a foreign resident, since you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners; for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt.

10En ses jaar lank moet jy jou land saai en sy opbrengs insamel.וְשֵׁ֥שׁ שָׁנִ֖ים תִּזְרַ֣ע אֶת־אַרְצֶ֑ךָ וְאָסַפְתָּ֖ אֶת־תְּבוּאָתָֽהּ׃For six years you are to sow your land and gather its produce, 11Maar in die sewende moet jy dit laat rus en dit laat lê, sodat die behoeftiges van jou volk kan eet; en wat hulle oorlaat, sal die diere van die veld eet. So moet jy doen met jou wingerd, met jou olyfboom.וְהַשְּׁבִיעִ֞ת תִּשְׁמְטֶ֣נָּה וּנְטַשְׁתָּ֗הּ וְאָֽכְלוּ֙ אֶבְיֹנֵ֣י עַמֶּ֔ךָ וְיִתְרָ֕ם תֹּאכַ֖ל חַיַּ֣ת הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה כֵּֽן־תַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה לְכַרְמְךָ֖ לְזֵיתֶֽךָ׃but in the seventh year you must let it rest and lie fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat from the field and the wild animals may consume what they leave. Do the same with your vineyard and olive grove. 12Ses dae lank moet jy jou werk doen, maar op die sewende dag moet jy rus, sodat jou os en jou donkie kan rus en die seun van jou slavin en die vreemdeling kan asem skep.שֵׁ֤שֶׁת יָמִים֙ תַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה מַעֲשֶׂ֔יךָ וּבַיּ֥וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֖י תִּשְׁבֹּ֑ת לְמַ֣עַן יָנ֗וּחַ שֽׁוֹרְךָ֙ וַחֲמֹרֶ֔ךָ וְיִנָּפֵ֥שׁ בֶּן־אֲמָתְךָ֖ וְהַגֵּֽר׃For six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you must cease, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the son of your maidservant may be refreshed, as well as the foreign resident. 13En in alles wat Ek vir julle gesê het, moet julle op julle hoede wees; en die naam van ander gode mag julle nie noem nie; dit mag nie uit jou mond gehoor word nie.וּבְכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־אָמַ֥רְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם תִּשָּׁמֵ֑רוּ וְשֵׁ֨ם אֱלֹהִ֤ים אֲחֵרִים֙ לֹ֣א תַזְכִּ֔ירוּ לֹ֥א יִשָּׁמַ֖ע עַל־פִּֽיךָ׃Pay close attention to everything I have said to you. You must not invoke the names of other gods; they must not be heard on your lips. 14Drie keer in die jaar moet jy vir My fees vier.

שָׁלֹ֣שׁ רְגָלִ֔ים תָּחֹ֥ג לִ֖י בַּשָּׁנָֽה׃Three times a year you are to celebrate a feast to Me. 15Die fees van die ongesuurde brode moet jy onderhou: sewe dae lank moet jy ongesuurde brode eet, soos Ek jou beveel het, op die vasgestelde tyd van die maand Abib, want daarin het jy uit Egipte uitgegaan; en niemand mag leeg voor My aangesig verskyn nie.

Letterlik: My aangesig mag nie leeg gesien word nie.

אֶת־חַ֣ג הַמַּצּוֹת֮ תִּשְׁמֹר֒ שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִים֩ תֹּאכַ֨ל מַצּ֜וֹת כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּיתִ֗ךָ לְמוֹעֵד֙ חֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽאָבִ֔יב כִּי־ב֖וֹ יָצָ֣אתָ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם וְלֹא־יֵרָא֥וּ פָנַ֖י רֵיקָֽם׃You are to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread as I commanded you: At the appointed time in the month of Abib you are to eat unleavened bread for seven days, because that was the month you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before Me empty-handed. 16En die fees van die oes, die eerstelinge van jou werk wat jy op die veld saai; en die fees van die insameling by die uitgang van die jaar, wanneer jy jou werk van die veld insamel.וְחַ֤ג הַקָּצִיר֙ בִּכּוּרֵ֣י מַעֲשֶׂ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תִּזְרַ֖ע בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה וְחַ֤ג הָֽאָסִף֙ בְּצֵ֣את הַשָּׁנָ֔ה בְּאָסְפְּךָ֥ אֶֽת־מַעֲשֶׂ֖יךָ מִן־הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃You are also to keep the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the produce from what you sow in the field. And keep the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather your produce from the field. 17Drie keer in die jaar moet al jou manspersone voor die aangesig van die Here HERE verskyn.שָׁלֹ֥שׁ פְּעָמִ֖ים בַּשָּׁנָ֑ה יֵרָאֶה֙ כָּל־זְכ֣וּרְךָ֔ אֶל־פְּנֵ֖י הָאָדֹ֥ן׀ יְהוָֽה׃Three times a year all your males are to appear before the Lord GOD. 18Jy mag die bloed van My offer nie saam met gesuurde brood offer nie, en die vet van My fees mag nie tot die môre toe oorbly nie.לֹֽא־תִזְבַּ֥ח עַל־חָמֵ֖ץ דַּם־זִבְחִ֑י וְלֹֽא־יָלִ֥ין חֵֽלֶב־חַגִּ֖י עַד־בֹּֽקֶר׃You must not offer the blood of My sacrifices with anything leavened, nor may the fat of My feast remain until morning. 19Die eerste van die eerstelinge van jou grond moet jy na die huis van die HERE jou God bring. Jy mag ’n bokkie nie in sy moeder se melk kook nie.רֵאשִׁ֗ית בִּכּוּרֵי֙ אַדְמָ֣תְךָ֔ תָּבִ֕יא בֵּ֖ית יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ לֹֽא־תְבַשֵּׁ֥ל גְּדִ֖י בַּחֲלֵ֥ב אִמּֽוֹ׃ סBring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

20Kyk, Ek stuur ’n engel voor jou uit om jou op die pad te bewaar en om jou te bring na die plek wat Ek voorberei het.הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י שֹׁלֵ֤חַ מַלְאָךְ֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ לִשְׁמָרְךָ֖ בַּדָּ֑רֶךְ וְלַהֲבִ֣יאֲךָ֔ אֶל־הַמָּק֖וֹם אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֲכִנֹֽתִי׃Behold, I am sending an angel before you to protect you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared. 21Wees op jou hoede voor hom en luister na sy stem; moenie teen hom in opstand kom nie, want hy sal julle oortreding nie vergewe nie, want My naam is in hom.הִשָּׁ֧מֶר מִפָּנָ֛יו וּשְׁמַ֥ע בְּקֹל֖וֹ אַל־תַּמֵּ֣ר בּ֑וֹ כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יִשָּׂא֙ לְפִשְׁעֲכֶ֔ם כִּ֥י שְׁמִ֖י בְּקִרְבּֽוֹ׃Pay attention to him and listen to his voice; do not defy him, for he will not forgive rebellion, since My Name is in him. 22Maar as jy werklik na sy stem luister en alles doen wat Ek sê, dan sal Ek ’n vyand wees vir jou vyande en ’n teëstander vir jou teëstanders.כִּ֣י אִם־שָׁמֹ֤עַ תִּשְׁמַע֙ בְּקֹל֔וֹ וְעָשִׂ֕יתָ כֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֲדַבֵּ֑ר וְאָֽיַבְתִּי֙ אֶת־אֹ֣יְבֶ֔יךָ וְצַרְתִּ֖י אֶת־צֹרְרֶֽיךָ׃But if you will listen carefully to his voice and do everything I say, I will be an enemy to your enemies and a foe to your foes. 23Want My engel sal voor jou uit gaan en jou bring na die Amoriete en die Hetiete en die Feresiete en die Kanaäniete, die Hewiete en die Jebusiete; en Ek sal hulle uitroei.כִּֽי־יֵלֵ֣ךְ מַלְאָכִי֮ לְפָנֶיךָ֒ וֶהֱבִֽיאֲךָ֗ אֶל־הָֽאֱמֹרִי֙ וְהַ֣חִתִּ֔י וְהַפְּרִזִּי֙ וְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י הַחִוִּ֖י וְהַיְבוּסִ֑י וְהִכְחַדְתִּֽיו׃For My angel will go before you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites, and Jebusites, and I will annihilate them. 24Jy mag voor hulle gode nie buig nie en hulle nie dien nie, en jy mag nie doen soos hulle werke nie; maar jy moet hulle sekerlik omgooi en hulle klippilare sekerlik stukkend breek.לֹֽא־תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֤ה לֵאלֹֽהֵיהֶם֙ וְלֹ֣א תָֽעָבְדֵ֔ם וְלֹ֥א תַעֲשֶׂ֖ה כְּמַֽעֲשֵׂיהֶ֑ם כִּ֤י הָרֵס֙ תְּהָ֣רְסֵ֔ם וְשַׁבֵּ֥ר תְּשַׁבֵּ֖ר מַצֵּבֹתֵיהֶֽם׃You must not bow down to their gods or serve them or follow their practices. Instead, you are to demolish them and smash their sacred stones to pieces. 25En julle moet die HERE julle God dien, en Hy sal jou brood en jou water seën; en Ek sal siekte uit jou midde wegneem.וַעֲבַדְתֶּ֗ם אֵ֚ת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם וּבֵרַ֥ךְ אֶֽת־לַחְמְךָ֖ וְאֶת־מֵימֶ֑יךָ וַהֲסִרֹתִ֥י מַחֲלָ֖ה מִקִּרְבֶּֽךָ׃So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take away sickness from among you. 26Daar sal in jou land geen vrou wees wat ’n miskraam het of onvrugbaar is nie; die getal van jou dae sal Ek vol maak.לֹ֥א תִהְיֶ֛ה מְשַׁכֵּלָ֥ה וַעֲקָרָ֖ה בְּאַרְצֶ֑ךָ אֶת־מִסְפַּ֥ר יָמֶ֖יךָ אֲמַלֵּֽא׃No woman in your land will miscarry or be barren; I will fulfill the number of your days. 27My skrik sal Ek voor jou uit stuur, en Ek sal al die volke in verwarring bring na wie jy toe kom, en Ek sal maak dat al jou vyande vir jou die rug keer.

אֶת־אֵֽימָתִי֙ אֲשַׁלַּ֣ח לְפָנֶ֔יךָ וְהַמֹּתִי֙ אֶת־כָּל־הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר תָּבֹ֖א בָּהֶ֑ם וְנָתַתִּ֧י אֶת־כָּל־אֹיְבֶ֛יךָ אֵלֶ֖יךָ עֹֽרֶף׃I will send My terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn and run. 28En Ek sal die perdebye voor jou uit stuur, en hulle sal die Hewiete, die Kanaäniete en die Hetiete voor jou uit verdryf.וְשָׁלַחְתִּ֥י אֶת־הַצִּרְעָ֖ה לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וְגֵרְשָׁ֗ה אֶת־הַחִוִּ֧י אֶת־הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֛י וְאֶת־הַחִתִּ֖י מִלְּפָנֶֽיךָ׃I will send the hornet before you to drive the Hivites and Canaanites and Hittites out of your way. 29Ek sal hulle nie in een jaar voor jou uit verdryf nie, sodat die land nie ’n woesteny word en die diere van die veld teen jou vermeerder nie.לֹ֧א אֲגָרְשֶׁ֛נּוּ מִפָּנֶ֖יךָ בְּשָׁנָ֣ה אֶחָ֑ת פֶּן־תִּהְיֶ֤ה הָאָ֨רֶץ֙ שְׁמָמָ֔ה וְרַבָּ֥ה עָלֶ֖יךָ חַיַּ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃I will not drive them out before you in a single year; otherwise the land would become desolate and wild animals would multiply against you. 30Bietjie vir bietjie sal Ek hulle van voor jou af verdryf, totdat jy vrugbaar word en die land erf.מְעַ֥ט מְעַ֛ט אֲגָרְשֶׁ֖נּוּ מִפָּנֶ֑יךָ עַ֚ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּפְרֶ֔ה וְנָחַלְתָּ֖ אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃Little by little I will drive them out ahead of you, until you become fruitful and possess the land. 31En Ek sal jou grens vasstel van die Rietsee af tot by die see van die Filistyne, en van die woestyn af tot by die Rivier; want Ek sal die inwoners van die land in julle hand gee, en jy sal hulle voor jou uit verdryf.וְשַׁתִּ֣י אֶת־גְּבֻלְךָ֗ מִיַּם־סוּף֙ וְעַד־יָ֣ם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וּמִמִּדְבָּ֖ר עַד־הַנָּהָ֑ר כִּ֣י׀ אֶתֵּ֣ן בְּיֶדְכֶ֗ם אֵ֚ת יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ וְגֵרַשְׁתָּ֖מוֹ מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃And I will establish your borders from the Red Sea to the Sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the Euphrates. For I will deliver the inhabitants into your hand, and you will drive them out before you. 32Jy mag met hulle en met hulle gode geen verbond sluit nie.לֹֽא־תִכְרֹ֥ת לָהֶ֛ם וְלֵאלֹֽהֵיהֶ֖ם בְּרִֽית׃You shall make no covenant with them or with their gods. 33Hulle mag nie in jou land bly nie, sodat hulle jou nie teen My laat sondig nie; want as jy hulle gode dien, sal dit vir jou ’n strik wees.

לֹ֤א יֵשְׁבוּ֙ בְּאַרְצְךָ֔ פֶּן־יַחֲטִ֥יאוּ אֹתְךָ֖ לִ֑י כִּ֤י תַעֲבֹד֙ אֶת־אֱלֹ֣הֵיהֶ֔ם כִּֽי־יִהְיֶ֥ה לְךָ֖ לְמוֹקֵֽשׁ׃ פThey must not remain in your land, lest they cause you to sin against Me. For if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”
