1In die derde maand na die uittog van die Israeliete uit die land Egipte, op hierdie dag het hulle in die woestyn Sinai aangekom.בַּחֹ֨דֶשׁ֙ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י לְצֵ֥את בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם בַּיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה בָּ֖אוּ מִדְבַּ֥ר סִינָֽי׃In the third month, on the same day of the month that the Israelites had left the land of Egypt, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai. 2Hulle het uit Refidim weggetrek en in die woestyn van Sinai aangekom, en hulle het in die woestyn laer opgeslaan; en Israel het daar teenoor die berg laer opgeslaan.וַיִּסְע֣וּ מֵרְפִידִ֗ים וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ מִדְבַּ֣ר סִינַ֔י וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וַיִּֽחַן־שָׁ֥ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל נֶ֥גֶד הָהָֽר׃After they had set out from Rephidim, they entered the Wilderness of Sinai, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain.

3Moses het na God toe opgegaan, en die HERE het hom van die berg af geroep en gesê: “So moet jy vir die huis van Jakob sê en aan die Israeliete vertel:וּמֹשֶׁ֥ה עָלָ֖ה אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּקְרָ֨א אֵלָ֤יו יְהוָה֙ מִן־הָהָ֣ר לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֤ה תֹאמַר֙ לְבֵ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֔ב וְתַגֵּ֖יד לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, “This is what you are to tell the house of Jacob and explain to the sons of Israel: 4‘Julle het self gesien wat Ek aan Egipte gedoen het, en hoe Ek julle op die vlerke van arende gedra en julle na My toe gebring het.אַתֶּ֣ם רְאִיתֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֖יתִי לְמִצְרָ֑יִם וָאֶשָּׂ֤א אֶתְכֶם֙ עַל־כַּנְפֵ֣י נְשָׁרִ֔ים וָאָבִ֥א אֶתְכֶ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃‘You have seen for yourselves what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. 5En nou, as julle werklik na My stem luister en My verbond onderhou, sal julle uit al die volke My kosbare besitting wees, want die hele aarde behoort aan My.וְעַתָּ֗ה אִם־שָׁמ֤וֹעַ תִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ בְּקֹלִ֔י וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־בְּרִיתִ֑י וִהְיִ֨יתֶם לִ֤י סְגֻלָּה֙ מִכָּל־הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים כִּי־לִ֖י כָּל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃Now if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you will be My treasured possession out of all the nations—for the whole earth is Mine. 6En julle sal vir My 'n koninkryk van priesters en 'n heilige nasie wees.’ Dit is die woorde wat jy vir die Israeliete moet sê.”וְאַתֶּ֧ם תִּהְיוּ־לִ֛י מַמְלֶ֥כֶת כֹּהֲנִ֖ים וְג֣וֹי קָד֑וֹשׁ אֵ֚לֶּה הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר תְּדַבֵּ֖ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to speak to the Israelites.”

7Moses het gekom en die ouderlinge van die volk geroep, en hy het al hierdie woorde wat die HERE hom beveel het, voor hulle gelê.וַיָּבֹ֣א מֹשֶׁ֔ה וַיִּקְרָ֖א לְזִקְנֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם וַיָּ֣שֶׂם לִפְנֵיהֶ֗ם אֵ֚ת כָּל־הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖הוּ יְהוָֽה׃So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him. 8Die hele volk het saam geantwoord en gesê: “Alles wat die HERE gesê het, sal ons doen.” En Moses het die woorde van die volk na die HERE teruggebring.וַיַּעֲנ֨וּ כָל־הָעָ֤ם יַחְדָּו֙ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה נַעֲשֶׂ֑ה וַיָּ֧שֶׁב מֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם אֶל־יְהוָֽה׃And all the people answered together, “We will do everything that the LORD has spoken.” So Moses brought their words back to the LORD.

9Toe sê die HERE vir Moses: “Kyk, Ek kom na jou toe in die dikte van die wolk, sodat die volk kan hoor wanneer Ek met jou praat, en dat hulle ook vir altyd in jou sal glo.” En Moses het die woorde van die volk aan die HERE vertel.וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֗ה הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֜י בָּ֣א אֵלֶיךָ֮ בְּעַ֣ב הֶֽעָנָן֒ בַּעֲב֞וּר יִשְׁמַ֤ע הָעָם֙ בְּדַבְּרִ֣י עִמָּ֔ךְ וְגַם־בְּךָ֖ יַאֲמִ֣ינוּ לְעוֹלָ֑ם וַיַּגֵּ֥ד מֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם אֶל־יְהוָֽה׃The LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear when I speak with you, and they will always put their trust in you.” And Moses relayed to the LORD what the people had said.

10Die HERE het vir Moses gesê: “Gaan na die volk toe en heilig hulle vandag en môre, en hulle moet hul klere was.וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֤ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁה֙ לֵ֣ךְ אֶל־הָעָ֔ם וְקִדַּשְׁתָּ֥ם הַיּ֖וֹם וּמָחָ֑ר וְכִבְּס֖וּ שִׂמְלֹתָֽם׃Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. They must wash their clothes 11En hulle moet gereed wees vir die derde dag, want op die derde dag sal die HERE voor die oë van die hele volk op die berg Sinai neerdaal.וְהָי֥וּ נְכֹנִ֖ים לַיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י כִּ֣י׀ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֗י יֵרֵ֧ד יְהוָ֛ה לְעֵינֵ֥י כָל־הָעָ֖ם עַל־הַ֥ר סִינָֽי׃and be prepared by the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. 12En jy moet rondom vir die volk 'n grens trek en sê: ‘Pas op dat julle nie op die berg opgaan of aan die rand daarvan raak nie. Elkeen wat aan die berg raak, moet sekerlik gedood word.וְהִגְבַּלְתָּ֤ אֶת־הָעָם֙ סָבִ֣יב לֵאמֹ֔ר הִשָּׁמְר֥וּ לָכֶ֛ם עֲל֥וֹת בָּהָ֖ר וּנְגֹ֣עַ בְּקָצֵ֑הוּ כָּל־הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בָּהָ֖ר מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת׃And you are to set up a boundary for the people around the mountain and tell them, ‘Be careful not to go up on the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13Geen hand mag aan hom raak nie, want hy moet sekerlik gestenig of sekerlik geskiet word; of dit 'n dier of 'n mens is, hy mag nie bly lewe nie. Wanneer die ramshoring lank blaas, mag hulle op die berg opgaan.’”

לֹא־תִגַּ֨ע בּ֜וֹ יָ֗ד כִּֽי־סָק֤וֹל יִסָּקֵל֙ אוֹ־יָרֹ֣ה יִיָּרֶ֔ה אִם־בְּהֵמָ֥ה אִם־אִ֖ישׁ לֹ֣א יִחְיֶ֑ה בִּמְשֹׁךְ֙ הַיֹּבֵ֔ל הֵ֖מָּה יַעֲל֥וּ בָהָֽר׃No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows—whether man or beast, he must not live.’ Only when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast may they approach the mountain. ”

14Moses het van die berg af na die volk toe afgegaan, en hy het die volk geheilig, en hulle het hul klere gewas.וַיֵּ֧רֶד מֹשֶׁ֛ה מִן־הָהָ֖ר אֶל־הָעָ֑ם וַיְקַדֵּשׁ֙ אֶת־הָעָ֔ם וַֽיְכַבְּס֖וּ שִׂמְלֹתָֽם׃When Moses came down from the mountain to the people, he consecrated them, and they washed their clothes. 15Hy het vir die volk gesê: “Wees gereed vir drie dae; moet nie na 'n vrou nader kom nie.”וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אֶל־הָעָ֔ם הֱי֥וּ נְכֹנִ֖ים לִשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת יָמִ֑ים אַֽל־תִּגְּשׁ֖וּ אֶל־אִשָּֽׁה׃“Be prepared for the third day,” he said to the people. “Do not draw near to a woman.”

16En op die derde dag, toe dit môre geword het, was daar donderslae en weerligstrale en 'n swaar wolk op die berg en 'n baie sterk geluid van 'n ramshoring, en die hele volk wat in die laer was, het gebewe.

A thick cloud was upon the mountain, and a very loud blast of the ram’s horn went out, so that all the people in the camp trembled. 17Toe het Moses die volk uit die laer uitgelei, God tegemoet, en hulle het aan die voet van die berg gaan staan.וַיּוֹצֵ֨א מֹשֶׁ֧ה אֶת־הָעָ֛ם לִקְרַ֥את הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים מִן־הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה וַיִּֽתְיַצְּב֖וּ בְּתַחְתִּ֥ית הָהָֽר׃Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18En die berg Sinai was heeltemal in rook gehul, omdat die HERE in die vuur daarop neergedaal het; en die rook daarvan het opgegaan soos die rook van 'n oond, en die hele berg het hewig gebewe.

וְהַ֤ר סִינַי֙ עָשַׁ֣ן כֻּלּ֔וֹ מִ֠פְּנֵי אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָרַ֥ד עָלָ֛יו יְהוָ֖ה בָּאֵ֑שׁ וַיַּ֤עַל עֲשָׁנוֹ֙ כְּעֶ֣שֶׁן הַכִּבְשָׁ֔ן וַיֶּחֱרַ֥ד כָּל־הָהָ֖ר מְאֹֽד׃Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke, because the LORD had descended on it in fire. And the smoke rose like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. 19Die geluid van die ramshoring het al hoe sterker geword. Moses het gepraat, en God het hom met 'n stem geantwoord.

So Moses went up, 21Die HERE het vir Moses gesê: “Gaan af, waarsku die volk, sodat hulle nie na die HERE toe deurbreek om te kyk nie en baie van hulle val nie.וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה רֵ֖ד הָעֵ֣ד בָּעָ֑ם פֶּן־יֶהֶרְס֤וּ אֶל־יְהוָה֙ לִרְא֔וֹת וְנָפַ֥ל מִמֶּ֖נּוּ רָֽב׃and the LORD said to him, “Go down and warn the people not to break through to see the LORD, lest many of them perish. 22Ook die priesters wat naby die HERE kom, moet hulle heilig, sodat die HERE nie teen hulle uitbreek nie.”וְגַ֧ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים הַנִּגָּשִׁ֥ים אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה יִתְקַדָּ֑שׁוּ פֶּן־יִפְרֹ֥ץ בָּהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃Even the priests who approach the LORD must consecrate themselves, or the LORD will break out against them.” 23Moses het vir die HERE gesê: “Die volk kan nie op die berg Sinai opgaan nie, want U self het ons gewaarsku en gesê: ‘Trek 'n grens om die berg en heilig dit.’”וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל־יְהוָ֔ה לֹא־יוּכַ֣ל הָעָ֔ם לַעֲלֹ֖ת אֶל־הַ֣ר סִינָ֑י כִּֽי־אַתָּ֞ה הַעֵדֹ֤תָה בָּ֨נוּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הַגְבֵּ֥ל אֶת־הָהָ֖ר וְקִדַּשְׁתּֽוֹ׃But Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up Mount Sinai, for You solemnly warned us, ‘Put a boundary around the mountain and set it apart as holy.’” 24Die HERE het vir hom gesê: “Gaan, klim af, en kom dan op, jy en Aäron saam met jou; maar die priesters en die volk moet nie deurbreek om na die HERE toe op te kom nie, sodat Hy nie teen hulle uitbreek nie.”וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֤יו יְהוָה֙ לֶךְ־רֵ֔ד וְעָלִ֥יתָ אַתָּ֖ה וְאַהֲרֹ֣ן עִמָּ֑ךְ וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים וְהָעָ֗ם אַל־יֶֽהֶרְס֛וּ לַעֲלֹ֥ת אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה פֶּן־יִפְרָץ־בָּֽם׃And the LORD replied, “Go down and bring Aaron with you. But the priests and the people must not break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break out against them.” 25Moses het na die volk afgegaan en vir hulle gesê.וַיֵּ֥רֶד מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֶל־הָעָ֑ם וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֲלֵהֶֽם׃ סSo Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.
