1Die HERE het met Moses gepraat en gesê:וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃Then the LORD said to Moses,2“Heilig vir My elke eersgeborene, alles wat elke moederskoot open onder die Israeliete, by mens en by vee: dit is Myne.”aLetterlik: die opening van elke moederskoot.קַדֶּשׁ־לִ֨י כָל־בְּכ֜וֹר פֶּ֤טֶר כָּל־רֶ֨חֶם֙ בִּבְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בָּאָדָ֖ם וּבַבְּהֵמָ֑ה לִ֖י הֽוּא׃“Consecrate to Me every firstborn male. The firstborn from every womb among the Israelites belongs to Me, both of man and beast.”
So Moses told the people, “Remember this day, the day you came out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; for the LORD brought you out of it by the strength of His hand. And nothing leavened shall be eaten.4Vandag trek julle uit, in die maand Abib.aOngeveer Maart tot April in die moderne kalender. And when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Hivites, and Jebusites—the land He swore to your fathers that He would give you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you shall keep this service in this month.6Sewe dae lank moet jy ongesuurde brood eet, en op die sewende dag is daar 'n fees vir die HERE. For seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the LORD.7Ongesuurde brood moet die sewe dae lank geëet word; niks wat gesuur is nie, mag by jou gesien word nie, en geen suurdeeg mag by jou gesien word in jou hele gebied nie. Unleavened bread shall be eaten during those seven days. Nothing leavened may be found among you, nor shall leaven be found anywhere within your borders.8En jy moet op daardie dag aan jou seun vertel en sê: ‘Dit is ter wille hiervan wat die HERE vir my gedoen het toe ek uit Egipte uitgetrek het.’ And on that day you are to explain to your son, ‘This is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’9En dit sal vir jou wees as 'n teken op jou hand en as 'n gedenkteken tussen jou oë, sodat die wet van die HERE in jou mond kan wees, want met 'n sterk hand het die HERE jou uit Egipte uitgelei. It shall be a sign for you on your hand and a reminder on your forehead that the Law of the LORD is to be on your lips. For with a mighty hand the LORD brought you out of Egypt.10Jy moet hierdie insetting op die vasgestelde tyd daarvan onderhou, van jaar tot jaar.aLetterlik: van dae tot dae. Therefore you shall keep this statute at the appointed time year after year.
11En wanneer die HERE jou bring na die land van die Kanaäniete, soos Hy aan jou en aan jou vaders gesweer het, en Hy dit aan jou gee,וְהָיָ֞ה כִּֽי־יְבִֽאֲךָ֤ יְהוָה֙ אֶל־אֶ֣רֶץ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר נִשְׁבַּ֥ע לְךָ֖ וְלַֽאֲבֹתֶ֑יךָ וּנְתָנָ֖הּ לָֽךְ׃And after the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites and gives it to you, as He swore to you and your fathers,12dan moet jy alles wat die baarmoeder oopmaak, aan die HERE oordra; en elke eersteling van die werpsel van 'n dier wat jy het – die mannetjies is vir die HERE.וְהַעֲבַרְתָּ֥ כָל־פֶּֽטֶר־רֶ֖חֶם לַֽיהֹוָ֑ה וְכָל־פֶּ֣טֶר׀ שֶׁ֣גֶר בְּהֵמָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִהְיֶ֥ה לְךָ֛ הַזְּכָרִ֖ים לַיהוָֽה׃you are to present to the LORD the firstborn male of every womb. All the firstborn males of your livestock belong to the LORD.13Maar elke eersteling van 'n donkie moet jy met 'n lam loskoop, en as jy dit nie loskoop nie, moet jy sy nek breek. You must redeem every firstborn donkey with a lamb, and if you do not redeem it, you are to break its neck. And every firstborn of your sons you must redeem.14En wanneer jou seun jou in die toekoms vra en sê: ‘Wat is dit?’ dan moet jy vir hom sê: ‘Met 'n sterk hand het die HERE ons uit Egipte, uit die slawehuis, uitgelei.aLetterlik: môre. In the future, when your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you are to tell him, ‘With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.15En toe Farao hom verhard het om ons te laat gaan, het die HERE al die eersgeborenes in die land Egipte gedood, van die eersgeborene van die mens tot by die eersgeborene van die dier. When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them along the road through the land of the Philistines, though it was shorter. For God said, “If the people face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.”18Daarom het God die volk in 'n draai gelei, langs die pad van die woestyn na die Rietsee. So God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the Israelites left the land of Egypt arrayed for battle.19En Moses het die beendere van Josef saamgeneem, want Josef het die Israeliete plegtig laat sweer en gesê: “God sal julle sekerlik besoek, en dan moet julle my beendere hiervandaan saam met julle opbring.”aOf: God sal sekerlik na julle omsien. Moses took the bones of Joseph with him because Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear a solemn oath when he said, “God will surely attend to you, and then you must carry my bones with you from this place.”20Hulle het van Sukkot af weggetrek en laer opgeslaan in Etam, aan die rand van die woestyn. They set out from Succoth and camped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness.21En die HERE het voor hulle uit gegaan, bedags in 'n wolkkolom om hulle op die pad te lei, en snags in 'n vuurkolom om vir hulle lig te gee, sodat hulle bedags en snags kon trek. And the LORD went before them in a pillar of cloud to guide their way by day, and in a pillar of fire to give them light by night, so that they could travel by day or night.22Die wolkkolom het bedags, en die vuurkolom snags, nie van voor die volk af gewyk nie. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place before the people.
