When David had gone a little beyond the summit, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth was there to meet him. He had a pair of saddled donkeys loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred clusters of raisins, a hundred summer fruits, and a skin of wine.2En die koning het vir Siba gesê: “Wat is hierdie vir jou?” וַיֹּ֧אמֶר הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ אֶל־צִיבָ֖א מָה־אֵ֣לֶּה לָּ֑ךְ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר צִ֠יבָא הַחֲמוֹרִ֨ים לְבֵית־הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ לִרְכֹּ֗ב וְהַקַּ֨יִץ֙ לֶאֱכ֣וֹל הַנְּעָרִ֔ים וְהַיַּ֕יִן לִשְׁתּ֥וֹת הַיָּעֵ֖ף בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃“Why do you have these?” asked the king. Ziba replied, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride, the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat, and the wine is to refresh those who become exhausted in the wilderness.”3En die koning het gesê: “En waar is die seun van jou heer?” וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְאַיֵּ֖ה בֶּן־אֲדֹנֶ֑יךָ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר צִיבָ֜א אֶל־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ הִנֵּה֙ יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בִּירוּשָׁלִַ֔ם כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר הַיּ֗וֹם יָשִׁ֤יבוּ לִי֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֵ֖ת מַמְלְכ֥וּת אָבִֽי׃“Where is your master’s grandson?” asked the king. And Ziba answered, “Indeed, he is staying in Jerusalem, for he has said, ‘Today, the house of Israel will restore to me the kingdom of my grandfather.’”4Toe het die koning vir Siba gesê: “Kyk, vir jou is alles wat aan Mefiboset behoort.” En Siba het gesê: “Ek buig my neer; mag ek guns vind in u oë, my heer die koning.” So the king said to Ziba, “All that belongs to Mephibosheth is now yours!” “I humbly bow before you,” said Ziba. “May I find favor in your eyes, my lord the king!”
As King David approached Bahurim, a man from the family of the house of Saul was just coming out. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and as he approached, he kept yelling out curses.6En hy het Dawid met klippe gegooi, en al die dienaars van koning Dawid, terwyl al die volk en al die helde aan sy regterkant en aan sy linkerkant was. He threw stones at David and at all the servants of the king, though the troops and all the mighty men were on David’s right and left.
7En so het Simei gesê toe hy vloek: “Gaan weg, gaan weg, jy man van bloedvergieting en man van Beliaal!”aLetterlik: man van bloede en man van Beliaal. And as he yelled curses, Shimei said, “Get out, get out, you worthless man of bloodshed!8Die HERE het al die bloed van die huis van Saul, in wie se plek jy koning geword het, op jou laat terugkom, en die HERE het die koningskap in die hand van jou seun Absalom gegee; en kyk, jy is in jou onheil, want jy is 'n man van bloed.” The LORD has paid you back for all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned, and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom. See, you have come to ruin because you are a man of bloodshed!”
Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head!”10En die koning het gesê: “Wat het ek met julle te doen, seuns van Seruja? But the king replied, “What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah? If he curses me because the LORD told him, ‘Curse David,’ who can ask, ‘Why did you do this?’”11En Dawid het vir Abisai en vir al sy dienaars gesê: “Kyk, my seun wat uit my lyf gekom het, soek my lewe; hoeveel te meer nou hierdie Benjaminiet! Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “Behold, my own son, my own flesh and blood, seeks my life. How much more, then, this Benjamite! Leave him alone and let him curse me, for the LORD has told him so.12Miskien sal die HERE kyk, en die HERE sal vir my goed laat terugkeer in die plek van sy vloek vandag. Perhaps the LORD will see my affliction and repay me with good for the cursing I receive today.”13En Dawid en sy manne het met die pad geloop, en Simeï het teenoor hom langs die hang van die berg geloop en al gaande gevloek, en klippe teenoor hom gegooi en stof gegooi. So David and his men proceeded along the road as Shimei went along the ridge of the hill opposite him. As Shimei went, he yelled curses, threw stones, and flung dust at David.14En die koning en die hele volk wat by hom was, het moeg aangekom, en hy het daar asem geskep. Finally, the king and all the people with him arrived, exhausted. And there he refreshed himself.
Then Absalom and all the men of Israel came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with him.16En toe Husai, die Arkiet, die vriend van Dawid, by Absalom kom, het Husai vir Absalom gesê: “Mag die koning lewe! Mag die koning lewe!” And David’s friend Hushai the Archite went to Absalom and said to him, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”17En Absalom het vir Husai gesê: “Is dit jou troue liefde teenoor jou vriend? וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ אֶל־חוּשַׁ֔י זֶ֥ה חַסְדְּךָ֖ אֶת־רֵעֶ֑ךָ לָ֥מָּה לֹֽא־הָלַ֖כְתָּ אֶת־רֵעֶֽךָ׃“Is this the loyalty you show your friend?” Absalom replied. “Why did you not go with your friend?”18En Husai het vir Absalom gesê: “Nee, maar die een wat die HERE gekies het, en hierdie volk, en al die manne van Israel, syne sal ek wees, en by hom sal ek bly.” “For the one chosen by the LORD, by this people, and by all the men of Israel—his I will be, and with him I will remain.19“En tweedens: vir wie sal ek dien? Furthermore, whom should I serve if not his son? As I served in your father’s presence, so also I will serve in yours.”
Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give me counsel. What should we do?”21En Agitofel het vir Absalom gesê: “Gaan in by die byvroue van u vader wat hy agtergelaat het om die huis op te pas; dan sal die hele Israel hoor dat u u by u vader stinkend gemaak het, en die hande van almal wat by u is, sal sterk word.” Ahithophel replied, “Sleep with your father’s concubines, whom he has left to take care of the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become a stench to your father, then the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.”22En hulle het vir Absalom die tent op die dak opgeslaan, en Absalom het by die byvroue van sy vader ingegaan voor die oë van die hele Israel. So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he slept with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.
23En die raad van Agitofel, wat hy in daardie dae gegee het, was soos wanneer iemand die woord van God raadpleeg; so was die hele raad van Agitofel, ook vir Dawid, ook vir Absalom.aOf: Soos wanneer iemand oor 'n saak by God navraag doen. Now in those days the advice of Ahithophel was like the consultation of the word of God. Such was the regard that both David and Absalom had for Ahithophel’s advice.
