1En in die agtiende jaar van koning Jerobeam, die seun van Nebat, het Abijam koning geword oor Juda.וּבִשְׁנַת֙ שְׁמֹנֶ֣ה עֶשְׂרֵ֔ה לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן־נְבָ֑ט מָלַ֥ךְ אֲבִיָּ֖ם עַל־יְהוּדָֽה׃In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah, 2Drie jaar het hy in Jerusalem geregeer, en die naam van sy moeder was Maäka, die dogter van Abisalom.שָׁלֹ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֔ים מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ מַעֲכָ֖ה בַּת־אֲבִישָׁלֽוֹם׃and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom. 3En hy het gewandel in al die sondes van sy vader wat hy voor hom gedoen het, en sy hart was nie volkome met die HERE sy God, soos die hart van sy vader Dawid, nie.וַיֵּ֕לֶךְ בְּכָל־חַטֹּ֥אות אָבִ֖יו אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֣ה לְפָנָ֑יו וְלֹא־הָיָ֨ה לְבָב֤וֹ שָׁלֵם֙ עִם־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֔יו כִּלְבַ֖ב דָּוִ֥ד אָבִֽיו׃And Abijam walked in all the sins that his father before him had committed, and his heart was not as fully devoted to the LORD his God as the heart of David his forefather had been. 4Want ter wille van Dawid het die HERE sy God hom 'n lamp in Jerusalem gegee, deur sy seun ná hom op te rig en Jerusalem in stand te hou.כִּ֚י לְמַ֣עַן דָּוִ֔ד נָתַן֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהָ֥יו ל֛וֹ נִ֖יר בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם לְהָקִ֤ים אֶת־בְּנוֹ֙ אַחֲרָ֔יו וּֽלְהַעֲמִ֖יד אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃Nevertheless, for the sake of David, the LORD his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and to make Jerusalem strong. 5omdat Dawid gedoen het wat reg is in die oë van die HERE en nie afgewyk het van alles wat Hy hom beveel het nie, al die dae van sy lewe, behalwe in die saak van Uria, die Hetiet.אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֥ה דָוִ֛ד אֶת־הַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְלֹֽא־סָ֞ר מִכֹּ֣ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֗הוּ כֹּ֚ל יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֔יו רַ֕ק בִּדְבַ֖ר אוּרִיָּ֥ה הַחִתִּֽי׃For David had done what was right in the eyes of the LORD and had not turned aside from anything the LORD commanded all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. 6En daar was oorlog tussen Rehabeam en Jerobeam al die dae van sy lewe.וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה הָיְתָ֧ה בֵין־רְחַבְעָ֛ם וּבֵ֥ין יָרָבְעָ֖ם כָּל־יְמֵ֥י חַיָּֽיו׃And there was war between the houses of Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of Abijam’s life. 7En die res van die sake van Abijam en alles wat hy gedoen het, is dit nie geskryf in die boek van die kronieke van die konings van Juda nie? En daar was oorlog tussen Abijam en Jerobeam.

וְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֤י אֲבִיָּם֙ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה הֲלֽוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה וּמִלְחָמָ֥ה הָיְתָ֛ה בֵּ֥ין אֲבִיָּ֖ם וּבֵ֥ין יָרָבְעָֽם׃As for the rest of the acts of Abijam, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam. 8Abiam het by sy vaders gaan lê, en hulle het hom in die stad van Dawid begrawe; en sy seun Asa het in sy plek koning geword.וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב אֲבִיָּם֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ בְּעִ֣יר דָּוִ֑ד וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ אָסָ֥א בְנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ פAnd Abijam rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David, and his son Asa reigned in his place.

9En in die twintigste jaar van Jerobeam, die koning van Israel, het Asa koning van Juda geword.וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת עֶשְׂרִ֔ים לְיָרָבְעָ֖ם מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מָלַ֥ךְ אָסָ֖א מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃In the twentieth year of Jeroboam’s reign over Israel, Asa became king of Judah, 10En 41 jaar het hy in Jerusalem geregeer, en die naam van sy moeder was Maäka, die dogter van Abisalom.וְאַרְבָּעִ֤ים וְאַחַת֙ שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ מַעֲכָ֖ה בַּת־אֲבִישָׁלֽוֹם׃and he reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years. His grandmother’s name was Maacah daughter of Abishalom. 11En Asa het gedoen wat reg is in die oë van die HERE, soos sy vader Dawid.וַיַּ֧עַשׂ אָסָ֛א הַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כְּדָוִ֖ד אָבִֽיו׃And Asa did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done. 12En hy het die tempelprostitute uit die land verwyder en al die afgode wat sy vaders gemaak het, weggeneem.

Letterlik: die gewydes.

וַיַּעֲבֵ֥ר הַקְּדֵשִׁ֖ים מִן־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיָּ֨סַר֙ אֶת־כָּל־הַגִּלֻּלִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשׂ֖וּ אֲבֹתָֽיו׃He banished the male shrine prostitutes from the land and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 13Ook Maäka, sy moeder, het hy verwyder uit die posisie van koninginmoeder, omdat sy 'n afskuwelike beeld vir Asjera gemaak het. En Asa het haar afskuwelike beeld afgekap en by die spruit Kidron verbrand.

וְגַ֣ם׀ אֶת־מַעֲכָ֣ה אִמּ֗וֹ וַיְסִרֶ֨הָ֙ מִגְּבִירָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־עָשְׂתָ֥ה מִפְלֶ֖צֶת לָאֲשֵׁרָ֑ה וַיִּכְרֹ֤ת אָסָא֙ אֶת־מִפְלַצְתָּ֔הּ וַיִּשְׂרֹ֖ף בְּנַ֥חַל קִדְרֽוֹן׃He also removed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made a detestable Asherah pole. Asa chopped down the pole and burned it in the Kidron Valley. 14Maar die offerhoogtes is nie verwyder nie; tog was die hart van Asa volkome met die HERE al sy dae.וְהַבָּמ֖וֹת לֹא־סָ֑רוּ רַ֣ק לְבַב־אָסָ֗א הָיָ֥ה שָׁלֵ֛ם עִם־יְהוָ֖ה כָּל־יָמָֽיו׃The high places were not removed, but Asa’s heart was fully devoted to the LORD all his days. 15En hy het die gewyde dinge van sy vader in die huis van die HERE gebring: silwer en goud en voorwerpe.וַיָּבֵא֙ אֶת־קָדְשֵׁ֣י אָבִ֔יו בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה כֶּ֥סֶף וְזָהָ֖ב וְכֵלִֽים׃And he brought into the house of the LORD the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated. 16En daar was oorlog tussen Asa en Baësa, die koning van Israel, al hulle dae.וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה הָיְתָ֜ה בֵּ֣ין אָסָ֗א וּבֵ֛ין בַּעְשָׁ֥א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כָּל־יְמֵיהֶֽם׃Now there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their days. 17En Baësa, die koning van Israel, het teen Juda opgetrek en Rama gebou, om niemand toe te laat om uit te gaan of in te kom na Asa, die koning van Juda, nie.וַיַּ֨עַל בַּעְשָׁ֤א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ עַל־יְהוּדָ֔ה וַיִּ֖בֶן אֶת־הָרָמָ֑ה לְבִלְתִּ֗י תֵּ֚ת יֹצֵ֣א וָבָ֔א לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃Baasha king of Israel went to war against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah. 18Toe het Asa al die silwer en die goud geneem wat oorgebly het in die skatkamers van die huis van die HERE en die skatkamers van die huis, en dit in die hand van sy dienaars gegee; en koning Asa het hulle na Benhadad gestuur, die seun van Tabrimmon, die seun van Hesion, die koning van Aram, wat in Damaskus gewoon het, om te sê:וַיִּקַּ֣ח אָ֠סָא אֶת־כָּל־הַכֶּ֨סֶף וְהַזָּהָ֜ב הַֽנּוֹתָרִ֣ים׀ בְּאוֹצְר֣וֹת בֵּית־יְהוָ֗ה וְאֶת־אֽוֹצְרוֹת֙ בֵּ֣ית וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖ם בְּיַד־עֲבָדָ֑יו וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֞ם הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אָסָ֗א אֶל־בֶּן־הֲ֠דַד בֶּן־טַבְרִמֹּ֤ן בֶּן־חֶזְיוֹן֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֔ם הַיֹּשֵׁ֥ב בְּדַמֶּ֖שֶׂק לֵאמֹֽר׃So Asa withdrew all the silver and gold that remained in the treasuries of the house of the LORD and the royal palace. He entrusted it to his servants and sent them with this message to Ben-hadad son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus: 19“Daar is 'n verbond tussen my en jou, tussen my vader en jou vader. Kyk, ek het vir jou 'n geskenk van silwer en goud gestuur; gaan, verbreek jou verbond met Baësa, die koning van Israel, sodat hy van my af wegtrek.”

Of: Laat daar 'n verbond wees tussen my en jou, tussen my vader en jou vader.

בְּרִית֙ בֵּינִ֣י וּבֵינֶ֔ךָ בֵּ֥ין אָבִ֖י וּבֵ֣ין אָבִ֑יךָ הִנֵּה֩ שָׁלַ֨חְתִּֽי לְךָ֥ שֹׁ֨חַד֙ כֶּ֣סֶף וְזָהָ֔ב לֵ֣ךְ הָפֵ֗רָה אֶת־בְּרִֽיתְךָ֙ אֶת־בַּעְשָׁ֣א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְיַעֲלֶ֖ה מֵעָלָֽי׃“Let there be a treaty between me and you as there was between my father and your father. See, I have sent you a gift of silver and gold. Now go and break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me.” 20En Benhadad het na koning Asa geluister en die aanvoerders van die leërs wat hy gehad het, teen die stede van Israel gestuur, en hy het Ijon en Dan en Abel-Bet-Maäka verslaan, en die hele Kinnerot, saam met die hele land Naftali.וַיִּשְׁמַ֨ע בֶּן־הֲדַ֜ד אֶל־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אָסָ֗א וַ֠יִּשְׁלַח אֶת־שָׂרֵ֨י הַחֲיָלִ֤ים אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ֙ עַל־עָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיַּךְ֙ אֶת־עִיּ֣וֹן וְאֶת־דָּ֔ן וְאֵ֖ת אָבֵ֣ל בֵּֽית־מַעֲכָ֑ה וְאֵת֙ כָּל־כִּנְר֔וֹת עַ֖ל כָּל־אֶ֥רֶץ נַפְתָּלִֽי׃And Ben-hadad listened to King Asa and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel, conquering Ijon, Dan, Abel-beth-maacah, and the whole land of Naphtali, including the region of Chinnereth. 21En toe Baësa dit hoor, het hy opgehou om Rama te bou, en hy het in Tirsa gebly.וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ בַּעְשָׁ֔א וַיֶּחְדַּ֕ל מִבְּנ֖וֹת אֶת־הָֽרָמָ֑ה וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב בְּתִרְצָֽה׃When Baasha learned of this, he stopped fortifying Ramah and withdrew to Tirzah. 22Koning Asa het die hele Juda laat hoor, niemand was vrygestel nie, en hulle het die klippe van Rama en sy hout weggedra waarmee Baësa gebou het; en koning Asa het daarmee Geba van Benjamin en Mispa gebou.

Letterlik: niemand was vry nie.

וְהַמֶּ֨לֶךְ אָסָ֜א הִשְׁמִ֤יעַ אֶת־כָּל־יְהוּדָה֙ אֵ֣ין נָקִ֔י וַיִּשְׂא֞וּ אֶת־אַבְנֵ֤י הָֽרָמָה֙ וְאֶת־עֵצֶ֔יהָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנָ֖ה בַּעְשָׁ֑א וַיִּ֤בֶן בָּם֙ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אָסָ֔א אֶת־גֶּ֥בַע בִּנְיָמִ֖ן וְאֶת־הַמִּצְפָּֽה׃Then King Asa summoned all the men of Judah, with no exceptions, and they carried away the stones of Ramah and the timbers Baasha had used for building. And with these materials King Asa built up Geba of Benjamin, as well as Mizpah. 23En die res van al die sake van Asa en al sy magtige dade en alles wat hy gedoen het en die stede wat hy gebou het, is dit nie geskryf in die boek van die kronieke van die konings van Juda nie? Maar in die tyd van sy ouderdom het hy siek geword aan sy voete.וְיֶ֣תֶר כָּל־דִּבְרֵֽי־אָ֠סָא וְכָל־גְּב֨וּרָת֜וֹ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֗ה וְהֶֽעָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּנָ֔ה הֲלֹֽא־הֵ֣מָּה כְתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה רַ֚ק לְעֵ֣ת זִקְנָת֔וֹ חָלָ֖ה אֶת־רַגְלָֽיו׃Now the rest of the acts of Asa, along with all his might, all his accomplishments, and the cities he built, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? In his old age, however, he became diseased in his feet. 24Asa het by sy vaders gaan lê en is by sy vaders begrawe in die stad van Dawid, sy vader; en sy seun Josafat het in sy plek koning geword.וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב אָסָא֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקָּבֵר֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו בְּעִ֖יר דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֑יו וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ יְהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ פAnd Asa rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the city of his father David, and his son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place.

25En Nadab, die seun van Jerobeam, het koning geword oor Israel in die tweede jaar van Asa, die koning van Juda, en hy het twee jaar oor Israel geregeer.וְנָדָ֣ב בֶּן־יָרָבְעָ֗ם מָלַךְ֙ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בִּשְׁנַ֣ת שְׁתַּ֔יִם לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שְׁנָתָֽיִם׃In the second year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel, and he reigned two years. 26En hy het gedoen wat kwaad is in die oë van die HERE en gewandel in die weg van sy vader en in sy sonde waarmee hy Israel laat sondig het.וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ אָבִ֔יו וּ֨בְחַטָּאת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶחֱטִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃And he did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of his father and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit. 27En Baësa, die seun van Ahia, van die huis van Issaskar, het teen hom saamgesweer, en Baësa het hom verslaan by Gibbeton, wat aan die Filistyne behoort het, terwyl Nadab en die hele Israel Gibbeton beleër het.וַיִּקְשֹׁ֨ר עָלָ֜יו בַּעְשָׁ֤א בֶן־אֲחִיָּה֙ לְבֵ֣ית יִשָּׂשכָ֔ר וַיַּכֵּ֣הוּ בַעְשָׁ֔א בְּגִבְּת֖וֹן אֲשֶׁ֣ר לַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וְנָדָב֙ וְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל צָרִ֖ים עַֽל־גִּבְּתֽוֹן׃Then Baasha son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar conspired against Nadab, and Baasha struck him down at Gibbethon of the Philistines while Nadab and all Israel were besieging the city. 28En Baësa het hom doodgemaak in die derde jaar van Asa, die koning van Juda, en hy het in sy plek koning geword.וַיְמִתֵ֣הוּ בַעְשָׁ֔א בִּשְׁנַ֣ת שָׁלֹ֔שׁ לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃In the third year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Baasha killed Nadab and reigned in his place. 29En toe hy koning geword het, het hy die hele huis van Jerobeam verslaan; hy het vir Jerobeam niks wat asem het, oorgelaat nie, totdat hy hom verdelg het, volgens die woord van die HERE wat Hy deur die hand van Sy kneg Ahia, die Siloniet, gespreek het.

Letterlik: hy het vir Jerobeam geen asem oorgelaat nie.

וַיְהִ֣י כְמָלְכ֗וֹ הִכָּה֙ אֶת־כָּל־בֵּ֣ית יָרָבְעָ֔ם לֹֽא־הִשְׁאִ֧יר כָּל־נְשָׁמָ֛ה לְיָרָבְעָ֖ם עַד־הִשְׁמִד֑וֹ כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֔ר בְּיַד־עַבְדּ֖וֹ אֲחִיָּ֥ה הַשִּׁילֹנִֽי׃As soon as Baasha became king, he struck down the entire household of Jeroboam. He did not leave to Jeroboam anyone who breathed, but destroyed them all according to the word that the LORD had spoken through His servant Ahijah the Shilonite, 30vanweë die sondes van Jerobeam wat hy gesondig het en waarmee hy Israel laat sondig het, deur sy tergery waarmee hy die HERE, die God van Israel, geterg het.עַל־חַטֹּ֤אות יָרָבְעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָטָ֔א וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶחֱטִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בְּכַעְס֕וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִכְעִ֔יס אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he had provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger. 31En die res van die sake van Nadab en alles wat hy gedoen het, is dit nie geskryf in die boek van die kronieke van die konings van Israel nie?וְיֶ֛תֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י נָדָ֖ב וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה הֲלֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃As for the rest of the acts of Nadab, along with all his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel? 32En daar was oorlog tussen Asa en Baësa, die koning van Israel, al hulle dae.וּמִלְחָמָ֨ה הָיְתָ֜ה בֵּ֣ין אָסָ֗א וּבֵ֛ין בַּעְשָׁ֥א מֶֽלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כָּל־יְמֵיהֶֽם׃ פAnd there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their days.

33In die derde jaar van Asa, die koning van Juda, het Baësa, die seun van Ahia, koning geword oor die hele Israel in Tirsa, 24 jaar lank.בִּשְׁנַ֣ת שָׁלֹ֔שׁ לְאָסָ֖א מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה מָ֠לַךְ בַּעְשָׁ֨א בֶן־אֲחִיָּ֤ה עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּתִרְצָ֔ה עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְאַרְבַּ֖ע שָׁנָֽה׃In the third year of Asa’s reign over Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel, and he reigned in Tirzah twenty-four years. 34En hy het gedoen wat kwaad is in die oë van die HERE en gewandel in die weg van Jerobeam en in sy sonde waarmee hy Israel laat sondig het.וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֨לֶךְ֙ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ יָרָבְעָ֔ם וּ֨בְחַטָּאת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶחֱטִ֖יא אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סAnd Baasha did evil in the sight of the LORD and walked in the way of Jeroboam and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.
