וַיַּ֧עַשׂ שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְלֹ֥א מִלֵּ֛א אַחֲרֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה כְּדָוִ֥ד אָבִֽיו׃ סSo Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; unlike his father David, he did not follow the LORD completely. 7Toe het Salomo 'n hoogte gebou vir Kemos, die verfoeisel van Moab, op die berg wat voor Jerusalem is, en vir Molek, die verfoeisel van die kinders van Ammon.אָז֩ יִבְנֶ֨ה שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה בָּמָ֗ה לִכְמוֹשׁ֙ שִׁקֻּ֣ץ מוֹאָ֔ב בָּהָ֕ר אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וּלְמֹ֕לֶךְ שִׁקֻּ֖ץ בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃At that time on a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites. 8En so het hy gedoen vir al sy uitlandse vroue, wat vir hulle gode offerrook laat opgaan en geoffer het.וְכֵ֣ן עָשָׂ֔ה לְכָל־נָשָׁ֖יו הַנָּכְרִיּ֑וֹת מַקְטִיר֥וֹת וּֽמְזַבְּח֖וֹת לֵאלֹהֵיהֶֽן׃He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

9En die HERE het toornig geword op Salomo, omdat sy hart afgewyk het van die HERE, die God van Israel, wat twee keer aan hom verskyn hetוַיִּתְאַנַּ֥ף יְהוָ֖ה בִּשְׁלֹמֹ֑ה כִּֽי־נָטָ֣ה לְבָב֗וֹ מֵעִ֤ם יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַנִּרְאָ֥ה אֵלָ֖יו פַּעֲמָֽיִם׃Now the LORD grew angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice. 10en hom aangaande hierdie saak beveel het om nie agter ander gode aan te loop nie; maar hy het nie onderhou wat die HERE beveel het nie.וְצִוָּ֤ה אֵלָיו֙ עַל־הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה לְבִ֨לְתִּי־לֶ֔כֶת אַחֲרֵ֖י אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים וְלֹ֣א שָׁמַ֔ר אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֖ה יְהוָֽה׃ פAlthough He had warned Solomon explicitly not to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the LORD’s command. 11En die HERE het vir Salomo gesê: “Omdat dit so met jou gesteld is en jy My verbond en My insettinge wat Ek jou beveel het, nie onderhou het nie, sal Ek die koninkryk sekerlik van jou afskeur en dit aan jou dienaar gee.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה לִשְׁלֹמֹ֗ה יַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָֽיְתָה־זֹּ֣את עִמָּ֔ךְ וְלֹ֤א שָׁמַ֨רְתָּ֙ בְּרִיתִ֣י וְחֻקֹּתַ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּ֖יתִי עָלֶ֑יךָ קָרֹ֨עַ אֶקְרַ֤ע אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ וּנְתַתִּ֖יהָ לְעַבְדֶּֽךָ׃Then the LORD said to Solomon, “Because you have done this and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant. 12Maar in jou dae sal Ek dit nie doen nie, ter wille van jou vader Dawid; uit die hand van jou seun sal Ek dit afskeur.אַךְ־בְּיָמֶ֨יךָ֙ לֹ֣א אֶעֱשֶׂ֔נָּה לְמַ֖עַן דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֑יךָ מִיַּ֥ד בִּנְךָ֖ אֶקְרָעֶֽנָּה׃Nevertheless, for the sake of your father David, I will not do it during your lifetime; I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13Net die hele koninkryk sal Ek nie skeur nie; een stam sal Ek aan jou seun gee ter wille van My kneg Dawid en ter wille van Jerusalem wat Ek gekies het.”רַ֤ק אֶת־כָּל־הַמַּמְלָכָה֙ לֹ֣א אֶקְרָ֔ע שֵׁ֥בֶט אֶחָ֖ד אֶתֵּ֣ן לִבְנֶ֑ךָ לְמַ֨עַן֙ דָּוִ֣ד עַבְדִּ֔י וּלְמַ֥עַן יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּחָֽרְתִּי׃Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom away from him. I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”

14En die HERE het vir Salomo 'n teëstander laat opstaan, Hadad, die Edomiet; hy was uit die nageslag van die koning in Edom.וַיָּ֨קֶם יְהוָ֤ה שָׂטָן֙ לִשְׁלֹמֹ֔ה אֵ֖ת הֲדַ֣ד הָאֲדֹמִ֑י מִזֶּ֧רַע הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ ה֖וּא בֶּאֱדֽוֹם׃Then the LORD raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, from the royal line of Edom. 15Want toe Dawid teen Edom was, toe Joab, die aanvoerder van die leër, opgetrek het om die gesneuweldes te begrawe, het hy al wat manlik was in Edom verslaan;

They took men from Paran with them and went to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave Hadad a house and land and provided him with food. 19En Hadad het baie guns gevind in die oë van Farao, en hy het aan hom 'n vrou gegee, die suster van sy vrou, die suster van Tagpenes, die koningin.וַיִּמְצָא֙ הֲדַ֥ד חֵ֛ן בְּעֵינֵ֥י פַרְעֹ֖ה מְאֹ֑ד וַיִּתֶּן־ל֤וֹ אִשָּׁה֙ אֶת־אֲח֣וֹת אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ אֲח֖וֹת תַּחְפְּנֵ֥יס הַגְּבִירָֽה׃There Hadad found such great favor in the sight of Pharaoh that he gave to him in marriage the sister of Queen Tahpenes, his own wife. 20En die suster van Tagpenes het vir hom Genubat, sy seun, gebaar, en Tagpenes het hom in die huis van Farao gespeen; en Genubat was in die huis van Farao onder die seuns van Farao.וַתֵּ֨לֶד ל֜וֹ אֲח֣וֹת תַּחְפְּנֵ֗יס אֵ֚ת גְּנֻבַ֣ת בְּנ֔וֹ וַתִּגְמְלֵ֣הוּ תַחְפְּנֵ֔ס בְּת֖וֹךְ בֵּ֣ית פַּרְעֹ֑ה וַיְהִ֤י גְנֻבַת֙ בֵּ֣ית פַּרְעֹ֔ה בְּת֖וֹךְ בְּנֵ֥י פַרְעֹֽה׃And the sister of Tahpenes bore Hadad a son named Genubath. Tahpenes herself weaned him in Pharaoh’s palace, and Genubath lived there among the sons of Pharaoh. 21Toe Hadad in Egipte hoor dat Dawid by sy vaders ontslaap het en dat Joab, die aanvoerder van die leër, dood is, het Hadad vir Farao gesê: “Laat my gaan, dat ek na my land kan gaan.”

וַהֲדַ֞ד שָׁמַ֣ע בְּמִצְרַ֗יִם כִּֽי־שָׁכַ֤ב דָּוִד֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וְכִי־מֵ֖ת יוֹאָ֣ב שַֽׂר־הַצָּבָ֑א וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הֲדַד֙ אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֔ה שַׁלְּחֵ֖נִי וְאֵלֵ֥ךְ אֶל־אַרְצִֽי׃When Hadad heard in Egypt that David had rested with his fathers and that Joab, the commander of the army, was dead, he said to Pharaoh, “Let me go, that I may return to my own country.” 22Maar Farao het vir hom gesê: “Wat kort jy dan by my, en kyk, jy soek om na jou land te gaan?” En hy het gesê: “Nee, maar u moet my beslis laat gaan.”וַיֹּ֧אמֶר ל֣וֹ פַרְעֹ֗ה כִּ֠י מָה־אַתָּ֤ה חָסֵר֙ עִמִּ֔י וְהִנְּךָ֥ מְבַקֵּ֖שׁ לָלֶ֣כֶת אֶל־אַרְצֶ֑ךָ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀ לֹ֔א כִּ֥י שַׁלֵּ֖חַ תְּשַׁלְּחֵֽנִי׃But Pharaoh asked him, “What have you lacked here with me that you suddenly want to go back to your own country?” “Nothing,” Hadad replied, “but please let me go.”

23En God het vir hom 'n teëstander laat opstaan, Reson, die seun van Eljada, wat van sy heer Hadadeser, die koning van Soba, gevlug het.וַיָּ֨קֶם אֱלֹהִ֥ים לוֹ֙ שָׂטָ֔ן אֶת־רְז֖וֹן בֶּן־אֶלְיָדָ֑ע אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּרַ֗ח מֵאֵ֛ת הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר מֶֽלֶךְ־צוֹבָ֖ה אֲדֹנָֽיו׃And God raised up against Solomon another adversary, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master, Hadadezer king of Zobah, 24En hy het manne om hom versamel en aanvoerder van 'n bende geword, toe Dawid hulle doodgemaak het; en hulle het na Damaskus gegaan en daarin gaan woon en in Damaskus geregeer.וַיִּקְבֹּ֤ץ עָלָיו֙ אֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיְהִ֣י שַׂר־גְּד֔וּד בַּהֲרֹ֥ג דָּוִ֖ד אֹתָ֑ם וַיֵּלְכ֤וּ דַמֶּ֨שֶׂק֙ וַיֵּ֣שְׁבוּ בָ֔הּ וַֽיִּמְלְכ֖וּ בְּדַמָּֽשֶׂק׃and had gathered men to himself. When David killed the Zobaites, Rezon captained a band of raiders and went to Damascus, where they settled and gained control. 25En hy was 'n teëstander van Israel al die dae van Salomo, benewens die kwaad wat Hadad gedoen het; en hy het 'n afsku van Israel gehad en oor Aram geregeer.

26En Jerobeam, die seun van Nebat, ’n Efratiet uit Sereda, wie se moeder se naam Serua was, ’n weduwee, ’n kneg van Salomo, het sy hand teen die koning opgehef.וְיָרָבְעָם֩ בֶּן־נְבָ֨ט אֶפְרָתִ֜י מִן־הַצְּרֵדָ֗ה וְשֵׁ֤ם אִמּוֹ֙ צְרוּעָה֙ אִשָּׁ֣ה אַלְמָנָ֔ה עֶ֖בֶד לִשְׁלֹמֹ֑ה וַיָּ֥רֶם יָ֖ד בַּמֶּֽלֶךְ׃Now Jeroboam son of Nebat was an Ephraimite from Zeredah whose mother was a widow named Zeruah. So when Solomon noticed that the young man was industrious, he put him in charge of the whole labor force of the house of Joseph.

Now Ahijah had wrapped himself in a new cloak, and the two of them were alone in the open field. 30En Ahia het die nuwe mantel gegryp wat op hom was en dit in twaalf stukke geskeur.וַיִּתְפֹּ֣שׂ אֲחִיָּ֔ה בַּשַּׂלְמָ֥ה הַחֲדָשָׁ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָלָ֑יו וַיִּ֨קְרָעֶ֔הָ שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖ר קְרָעִֽים׃And Ahijah took hold of the new cloak he was wearing, tore it into twelve pieces, 31En hy het vir Jerobeam gesê: “Neem vir jou tien stukke, want so sê die HERE, die God van Israel: ‘Kyk, Ek skeur die koninkryk uit die hand van Salomo, en Ek gee aan jou die tien stamme.וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לְיָֽרָבְעָ֔ם קַח־לְךָ֖ עֲשָׂרָ֣ה קְרָעִ֑ים כִּ֣י כֹה֩ אָמַ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הִנְנִ֨י קֹרֵ֤עַ אֶת־הַמַּמְלָכָה֙ מִיַּ֣ד שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה וְנָתַתִּ֣י לְךָ֔ אֵ֖ת עֲשָׂרָ֥ה הַשְּׁבָטִֽים׃and said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces for yourself, for this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and I will give you ten tribes. 32Maar die een stam sal syne wees, ter wille van My kneg Dawid en ter wille van Jerusalem, die stad wat Ek uit al die stamme van Israel gekies het,וְהַשֵּׁ֥בֶט הָאֶחָ֖ד יִֽהְיֶה־לּ֑וֹ לְמַ֣עַן׀ עַבְדִּ֣י דָוִ֗ד וּלְמַ֨עַן֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם הָעִיר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּחַ֣רְתִּי בָ֔הּ מִכֹּ֖ל שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃But one tribe will remain for the sake of My servant David and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel. 33omdat hulle My verlaat het en hulle neergebuig het voor Astoret, die god van die Sidoniërs, voor Kemos, die god van Moab, en voor Milkom, die god van die kinders van Ammon, en nie in My weë gewandel het om te doen wat reg is in My oë, en My insettinge en My verordeninge, soos sy vader Dawid nie.

They have not walked in My ways, nor done what is right in My eyes, nor kept My statutes and judgments, as Solomon’s father David did. 34Maar Ek sal nie die hele koninkryk uit sy hand neem nie, want Ek sal hom vors maak al die dae van sy lewe, ter wille van My kneg Dawid wat Ek gekies het, wat My gebooie en My insettinge onderhou het.וְלֹֽא־אֶקַּ֥ח אֶת־כָּל־הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה מִיָּד֑וֹ כִּ֣י׀ נָשִׂ֣יא אֲשִׁתֶ֗נּוּ כֹּ֚ל יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֔יו לְמַ֨עַן דָּוִ֤ד עַבְדִּי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּחַ֣רְתִּי אֹת֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁמַ֖ר מִצְוֺתַ֥י וְחֻקֹּתָֽי׃Nevertheless, I will not take the whole kingdom out of Solomon’s hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of David My servant, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and statutes. 35Maar Ek sal die koningskap uit die hand van sy seun neem en dit aan jou gee, die tien stamme.וְלָקַחְתִּ֥י הַמְּלוּכָ֖ה מִיַּ֣ד בְּנ֑וֹ וּנְתַתִּ֣יהָ לְּךָ֔ אֵ֖ת עֲשֶׂ֥רֶת הַשְּׁבָטִֽים׃But I will take ten tribes of the kingdom from the hand of his son and give them to you. 36En aan sy seun sal Ek een stam gee, sodat daar vir My kneg Dawid al die dae 'n lamp voor My aangesig sal wees in Jerusalem, die stad wat Ek vir My gekies het om My naam daar te vestig.וְלִבְנ֖וֹ אֶתֵּ֣ן שֵֽׁבֶט־אֶחָ֑ד לְמַ֣עַן הֱיֽוֹת־נִ֣יר לְדָֽוִיד־עַ֠בְדִּי כָּֽל־הַיָּמִ֤ים׀ לְפָנַי֙ בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם הָעִיר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּחַ֣רְתִּי לִ֔י לָשׂ֥וּם שְׁמִ֖י שָֽׁם׃I will give one tribe to his son, so that My servant David will always have a lamp before Me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put My Name. 37En jou sal Ek neem, en jy sal regeer oor alles wat jou siel begeer, en jy sal koning wees oor Israel.וְאֹתְךָ֣ אֶקַּ֔ח וּמָ֣לַכְתָּ֔ בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־תְּאַוֶּ֖ה נַפְשֶׁ֑ךָ וְהָיִ֥יתָ מֶּ֖לֶךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃But as for you, I will take you, and you shall reign over all that your heart desires, and you will be king over Israel. 38En as jy luister na alles wat Ek jou beveel, en in My weë wandel en doen wat reg is in My oë deur My insettinge en My gebooie te onderhou, soos My kneg Dawid gedoen het, dan sal Ek met jou wees en vir jou ’n betroubare huis bou soos Ek vir Dawid gebou het, en Israel aan jou gee.וְהָיָ֗ה אִם־תִּשְׁמַע֮ אֶת־כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֲצַוֶּךָ֒ וְהָלַכְתָּ֣ בִדְרָכַ֗י וְעָשִׂ֨יתָ הַיָּשָׁ֤ר בְּעֵינַי֙ לִשְׁמ֤וֹר חֻקּוֹתַי֙ וּמִצְוֺתַ֔י כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂ֖ה דָּוִ֣ד עַבְדִּ֑י וְהָיִ֣יתִי עִמָּ֗ךְ וּבָנִ֨יתִי לְךָ֤ בַֽיִת־נֶאֱמָן֙ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּנִ֣יתִי לְדָוִ֔ד וְנָתַתִּ֥י לְךָ֖ אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃If you listen to all that I command you, walk in My ways, and do what is right in My sight in order to keep My statutes and commandments as My servant David did, then I will be with you. I will build you a lasting dynasty just as I built for David, and I will give Israel to you. 39En Ek sal die nageslag van Dawid hierom verneder, maar nie al die dae nie.’”וַֽאעַנֶּ֛ה אֶת־זֶ֥רַע דָּוִ֖ד לְמַ֣עַן זֹ֑את אַ֖ךְ לֹ֥א כָל־הַיָּמִֽים׃ סBecause of this, I will humble David’s descendants—but not forever.’”

40Toe het Salomo gesoek om Jerobeam dood te maak; maar Jerobeam het opgestaan en na Egipte gevlug, na Sisak, die koning van Egipte; en hy was in Egipte tot die dood van Salomo.וַיְבַקֵּ֥שׁ שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לְהָמִ֣ית אֶת־יָרָבְעָ֑ם וַיָּ֣קָם יָרָבְעָ֗ם וַיִּבְרַ֤ח מִצְרַ֨יִם֙ אֶל־שִׁישַׁ֣ק מֶֽלֶךְ־מִצְרַ֔יִם וַיְהִ֥י בְמִצְרַ֖יִם עַד־מ֥וֹת שְׁלֹמֹֽה׃Solomon therefore sought to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, where he remained until the death of Solomon.

41En die res van die verhaal van Salomo, en alles wat hy gedoen het, en sy wysheid, is dit nie opgeskryf in die boek van die verhaal van Salomo nie?

וְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֧י שְׁלֹמֹ֛ה וְכָל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָׂ֖ה וְחָכְמָת֑וֹ הֲלֽוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתֻבִ֔ים עַל־סֵ֖פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י שְׁלֹמֹֽה׃As for the rest of the acts of Solomon—all that he did, as well as his wisdom—are they not written in the Book of the Acts of Solomon? 42En die dae wat Salomo in Jerusalem oor die hele Israel geregeer het, was 40 jaar.וְהַיָּמִ֗ים אֲשֶׁר֩ מָלַ֨ךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֤ה בִירוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אַרְבָּעִ֖ים שָׁנָֽה׃Thus the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. 43En Salomo het by sy vaders ontslaap en is begrawe in die stad van sy vader Dawid; en sy seun Rehabeam het in sy plek koning geword.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב שְׁלֹמֹה֙ עִם־אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּ֨קָּבֵ֔ר בְּעִ֖יר דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֑יו וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ רְחַבְעָ֥ם בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ סAnd Solomon rested with his fathers and was buried in the city of his father David. And his son Rehoboam reigned in his place.
