1Toe dit gebeur het dat ons, nadat ons ons van hulle losgeskeur het, weggevaar het, het ons met 'n reguit koers by Kos aangekom, en die volgende dag by Rodos, en daarvandaan by Patara.Ὡς δὲ ἐγένετο ἀναχθῆναι ἡμᾶς ἀποσπασθέντας ἀπʼ αὐτῶν, εὐθυδρομήσαντες ἤλθομεν εἰς τὴν ⸀Κῶ, τῇ δὲ ἑξῆς εἰς τὴν Ῥόδον, κἀκεῖθεν εἰς Πάταρα·After we had torn ourselves away from them, we sailed directly to Cos, and the next day on to Rhodes, and from there to Patara. Finding a ship crossing over to Phoenicia, we boarded it and set sail. 3Nadat ons Siprus in sig gekry het en dit aan die linkerkant laat lê het, het ons na Sirië gevaar en by Tirus aan wal gegaan, want daar was die skip besig om sy vrag af te laai.⸀ἀναφάναντες δὲ τὴν Κύπρον καὶ καταλιπόντες αὐτὴν εὐώνυμον ἐπλέομεν εἰς Συρίαν, καὶ ⸀κατήλθομεν εἰς Τύρον, ἐκεῖσε γὰρ ⸂τὸ πλοῖον ἦν⸃ ἀποφορτιζόμενον τὸν γόμον.After sighting Cyprus and passing south of it, we sailed on to Syria and landed at Tyre, where the ship was to unload its cargo.
We sought out the disciples in Tyre and stayed with them seven days. Through the Spirit they kept telling Paul not to go up to Jerusalem.
5Toe dit gebeur het dat ons die dae voltooi het, het ons vertrek en op reis gegaan, terwyl almal, saam met vroue en kinders, ons tot buite die stad begelei het; en nadat ons op die strand gekniel en gebid het,ὅτε δὲ ἐγένετο ⸂ἐξαρτίσαι ἡμᾶς⸃ τὰς ἡμέρας, ἐξελθόντες ἐπορευόμεθα προπεμπόντων ἡμᾶς πάντων σὺν γυναιξὶ καὶ τέκνοις ἕως ἔξω τῆς πόλεως, καὶ θέντες τὰ γόνατα ἐπὶ τὸν αἰγιαλὸν ⸀προσευξάμενοιBut when our time there had ended, we set out on our journey. All the disciples, with their wives and children, accompanied us out of the city and knelt down on the beach to pray with us. 6het ons mekaar gegroet en in die skip geklim, maar hulle het na hulle eie huise teruggekeer.
aLetterlik: na hulle eie.
And after we had said our farewells, we went aboard the ship, and they returned home.
7Ons het die seereis van Tirus voltooi en by Ptolemaïs aangekom, en nadat ons die broers en susters gegroet het, het ons een dag by hulle gebly.Ἡμεῖς δὲ τὸν πλοῦν διανύσαντες ἀπὸ Τύρου κατηντήσαμεν εἰς Πτολεμαΐδα, καὶ ἀσπασάμενοι τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ἐμείναμεν ἡμέραν μίαν παρʼ αὐτοῖς.When we had finished our voyage from Tyre, we landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and stayed with them for a day.
Leaving the next day, we went on to Caesarea and stayed at the home of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven.
He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied.
10Terwyl ons verskeie dae daar gebly het, het 'n sekere profeet met die naam Agabus van Judea afgekom,ἐπιμενόντων ⸀δὲ ἡμέρας πλείους κατῆλθέν τις ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰουδαίας προφήτης ὀνόματι Ἅγαβος,After we had been there several days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11en hy het na ons gekom en Paulus se gordel geneem, sy eie voete en hande gebind en gesê: “So sê die Heilige Gees: ‘Die man aan wie hierdie gordel behoort, só sal die Jode hom in Jerusalem bind en in die hande van die heidene oorlewer.’”καὶ ἐλθὼν πρὸς ἡμᾶς καὶ ἄρας τὴν ζώνην τοῦ Παύλου δήσας ⸀ἑαυτοῦ τοὺς πόδας καὶ τὰς χεῖρας εἶπεν· Τάδε λέγει τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον Τὸν ἄνδρα οὗ ἐστιν ἡ ζώνη αὕτη, οὕτως δήσουσιν ἐν Ἰερουσαλὴμ οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι καὶ παραδώσουσιν εἰς χεῖρας ἐθνῶν.Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own feet and hands, and said, “The Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews of Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and hand him over to the Gentiles.’” 12Toe ons dit gehoor het, het ons sowel as die plaaslike mense hom gesmeek om nie na Jerusalem op te gaan nie.ὡς δὲ ἠκούσαμεν ταῦτα, παρεκαλοῦμεν ἡμεῖς τε καὶ οἱ ἐντόπιοι τοῦ μὴ ἀναβαίνειν αὐτὸν εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ.When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. Want ek is bereid om nie net gebind te word nie, maar ook om in Jerusalem te sterf vir die naam van die Here Jesus.”⸂τότε ἀπεκρίθη⸃ ὁ Παῦλος· Τί ποιεῖτε κλαίοντες καὶ συνθρύπτοντές μου τὴν καρδίαν; ἐγὼ γὰρ οὐ μόνον δεθῆναι ἀλλὰ καὶ ἀποθανεῖν εἰς Ἰερουσαλὴμ ἑτοίμως ἔχω ὑπὲρ τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ.Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” 14Toe hy hom nie laat oorreed het nie, het ons stil geword en gesê: “Laat die wil van die Here geskied.”μὴ πειθομένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ἡσυχάσαμεν εἰπόντες· ⸂Τοῦ κυρίου τὸ θέλημα⸃ ⸀γινέσθω.When he would not be dissuaded, we quieted down and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”
15Na hierdie dae het ons ons gereedgemaak en na Jerusalem opgegaan.Μετὰ δὲ τὰς ἡμέρας ταύτας ἐπισκευασάμενοι ἀνεβαίνομεν εἰς ⸀Ἱεροσόλυμα·After these days, we packed up and went on to Jerusalem. 16ook sommige van die dissipels van Sesarea het saam met ons gegaan en ons gebring by iemand by wie ons kon tuisgaan, 'n sekere Mnason van Siprus, 'n dissipel van vroeër dae.συνῆλθον δὲ καὶ τῶν μαθητῶν ἀπὸ Καισαρείας σὺν ἡμῖν, ἄγοντες παρʼ ᾧ ξενισθῶμεν Μνάσωνί τινι Κυπρίῳ, ἀρχαίῳ μαθητῇ.Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us, and they took us to stay at the home of Mnason the Cypriot, an early disciple.
17Toe ons in Jerusalem aangekom het, het die broers en susters ons met blydskap ontvang.Γενομένων δὲ ἡμῶν εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ἀσμένως ⸀ἀπεδέξαντο ἡμᾶς οἱ ἀδελφοί.When we arrived in Jerusalem, the brothers welcomed us joyfully. 18Die volgende dag het Paulus saam met ons by Jakobus ingegaan, en al die ouderlinge was teenwoordig.τῇ δὲ ἐπιούσῃ εἰσῄει ὁ Παῦλος σὺν ἡμῖν πρὸς Ἰάκωβον, πάντες τε παρεγένοντο οἱ πρεσβύτεροι.The next day Paul went in with us to see James, and all the elders were present. Paul greeted them and recounted one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.
οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες ἐδόξαζον τὸν ⸀θεόν, ⸂εἶπόν τε⸃ αὐτῷ· Θεωρεῖς, ἀδελφέ, πόσαι μυριάδες εἰσὶν ⸂ἐν τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις⸃ τῶν πεπιστευκότων, καὶ πάντες ζηλωταὶ τοῦ νόμου ὑπάρχουσιν·When they heard this, they glorified God. Then they said to Paul, “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law.
21En hulle is oor jou ingelig dat jy al die Jode wat onder die nasies is, afvalligheid van Moses leer, deurdat jy sê dat hulle nie hulle kinders moet besny of volgens die gebruike moet wandel nie.κατηχήθησαν δὲ περὶ σοῦ ὅτι ἀποστασίαν διδάσκεις ἀπὸ Μωϋσέως τοὺς κατὰ τὰ ἔθνη πάντας Ἰουδαίους, λέγων μὴ περιτέμνειν αὐτοὺς τὰ τέκνα μηδὲ τοῖς ἔθεσιν περιπατεῖν.But they are under the impression that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or observe our customs.
What then should we do? They will certainly hear that you have come.
Therefore do what we advise you. There are four men with us who have taken a vow.
24Neem dié met jou saam, laat jou saam met hulle reinig en dra die koste vir hulle sodat hulle hul koppe kan skeer, en almal sal weet dat daar niks is van wat hulle oor jou ingelig is nie, maar dat jy self ook in ooreenstemming leef deur die wet te onderhou.τούτους παραλαβὼν ἁγνίσθητι σὺν αὐτοῖς καὶ δαπάνησον ἐπʼ αὐτοῖς ἵνα ⸀ξυρήσονται τὴν κεφαλήν, καὶ ⸀γνώσονται πάντες ὅτι ὧν κατήχηνται περὶ σοῦ οὐδέν ἐστιν, ἀλλὰ στοιχεῖς καὶ αὐτὸς ⸂φυλάσσων τὸν νόμον⸃.Take these men, purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses so they can have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know that there is no truth to these rumors about you, but that you also live in obedience to the law.
As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they must abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals, and from sexual immorality.”
26Toe het Paulus die manne saamgeneem, en die volgende dag het hy hom saam met hulle laat reinig en in die tempel ingegaan en die voltooiing van die dae van die reiniging aangekondig, totdat die offer vir elkeen van hulle gebring is.τότε ὁ Παῦλος παραλαβὼν τοὺς ἄνδρας τῇ ἐχομένῃ ἡμέρᾳ σὺν αὐτοῖς ἁγνισθεὶς εἰσῄει εἰς τὸ ἱερόν, διαγγέλλων τὴν ἐκπλήρωσιν τῶν ἡμερῶν τοῦ ἁγνισμοῦ ἕως οὗ προσηνέχθη ὑπὲρ ἑνὸς ἑκάστου αὐτῶν ἡ προσφορά.So the next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. Then he entered the temple to give notice of the date when their purification would be complete and the offering would be made for each of them.
27Toe die sewe dae op die punt was om voltooi te word, het die Jode van Asië hom in die tempel gesien en die hele skare in verwarring gebring en die hande aan hom geslaan,Ὡς δὲ ἔμελλον αἱ ἑπτὰ ἡμέραι συντελεῖσθαι, οἱ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἀσίας Ἰουδαῖοι θεασάμενοι αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ συνέχεον πάντα τὸν ὄχλον καὶ ἐπέβαλον ⸂ἐπʼ αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας⸃,When the seven days were almost over, some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul at the temple. They stirred up the whole crowd and seized him, 28en geskreeu: “Israelitiese manne, help! Dit is die mens wat almal oral teen die volk en die wet en hierdie plek leer, en boonop het hy ook Grieke in die tempel ingebring en hierdie heilige plek ontheilig.”κράζοντες· Ἄνδρες Ἰσραηλῖται, βοηθεῖτε· οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὁ κατὰ τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ τοῦ νόμου καὶ τοῦ τόπου τούτου πάντας ⸀πανταχῇ διδάσκων, ἔτι τε καὶ Ἕλληνας εἰσήγαγεν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν καὶ κεκοίνωκεν τὸν ἅγιον τόπον τοῦτον.crying out, “Men of Israel, help us! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people and against our law and against this place. Furthermore, he has brought Greeks into the temple and defiled this holy place.” 29Want hulle het vroeër Trofimus van Efese saam met hom in die stad gesien, en hulle het gedink dat Paulus hom in die tempel ingebring het.ἦσαν γὰρ ⸀προεωρακότες Τρόφιμον τὸν Ἐφέσιον ἐν τῇ πόλει σὺν αὐτῷ, ὃν ἐνόμιζον ὅτι εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν εἰσήγαγεν ὁ Παῦλος.For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple. 30En die hele stad het in beroering gekom, en daar was 'n toeloop van die volk, en hulle het Paulus gegryp en hom buite die tempel uitgesleep, en dadelik is die deure gesluit.ἐκινήθη τε ἡ πόλις ὅλη καὶ ἐγένετο συνδρομὴ τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ ἐπιλαβόμενοι τοῦ Παύλου εἷλκον αὐτὸν ἔξω τοῦ ἱεροῦ, καὶ εὐθέως ἐκλείσθησαν αἱ θύραι.The whole city was stirred up, and the people rushed together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut.
aLetterlik: owerste oor duisend.
ζητούντων ⸀τε αὐτὸν ἀποκτεῖναι ἀνέβη φάσις τῷ χιλιάρχῳ τῆς σπείρης ὅτι ὅλη ⸀συγχύννεται Ἰερουσαλήμ,While they were trying to kill him, the commander of the Roman regiment received a report that all Jerusalem was in turmoil.
Immediately he took some soldiers and centurions and ran down to the crowd. When the people saw the commander and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul. 33Toe het die kommandant nader gekom en hom gegryp en beveel dat hy met twee kettings geboei word, en hy het gevra wie hy is en wat hy gedoen het.⸂τότε ἐγγίσας⸃ ὁ χιλίαρχος ἐπελάβετο αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκέλευσε δεθῆναι ἁλύσεσι δυσί, καὶ ἐπυνθάνετο ⸀τίς εἴη καὶ τί ἐστιν πεποιηκώς.The commander came up and arrested Paul, ordering that he be bound with two chains. Then he asked who he was and what he had done. 34Maar in die skare het party dit en ander dat geskreeu; en omdat hy weens die rumoer niks met sekerheid kon vasstel nie, het hy beveel dat hy na die kaserne gebring word.ἄλλοι δὲ ἄλλο τι ⸀ἐπεφώνουν ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ· μὴ ⸂δυναμένου δὲ αὐτοῦ⸃ γνῶναι τὸ ἀσφαλὲς διὰ τὸν θόρυβον ἐκέλευσεν ἄγεσθαι αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν.Some in the crowd were shouting one thing, and some another. And since the commander could not get at the truth because of the uproar, he ordered that Paul be brought into the barracks. 35En toe hy by die trappe kom, het dit gebeur dat hy deur die soldate gedra moes word weens die geweld van die skare,ὅτε δὲ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀναβαθμούς, συνέβη βαστάζεσθαι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τῶν στρατιωτῶν διὰ τὴν βίαν τοῦ ὄχλου,When Paul reached the steps, he had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob.
aLetterlik: Neem hom weg.
For the crowd that followed him kept shouting, “Away with him!”
En hy het gesê: “Ken jy Grieks?”Μέλλων τε εἰσάγεσθαι εἰς τὴν παρεμβολὴν ὁ Παῦλος λέγει τῷ χιλιάρχῳ· Εἰ ἔξεστίν μοι εἰπεῖν ⸀τι πρὸς σέ; ὁ δὲ ἔφη· Ἑλληνιστὶ γινώσκεις;As they were about to take Paul into the barracks, he asked the commander, “May I say something to you?” “Do you speak Greek?” he replied.
οὐκ ἄρα σὺ εἶ ὁ Αἰγύπτιος ὁ πρὸ τούτων τῶν ἡμερῶν ἀναστατώσας καὶ ἐξαγαγὼν εἰς τὴν ἔρημον τοὺς τετρακισχιλίους ἄνδρας τῶν σικαρίων;“Aren’t you the Egyptian who incited a rebellion some time ago and led four thousand members of the Assassins into the wilderness?”
39Paulus het gesê: “Ek is wel 'n Joodse mens, van Tarsus in Silisië, burger van 'n stad wat nie onaansienlik is nie; ek smeek u, laat my toe om met die volk te praat.”εἶπεν δὲ ὁ Παῦλος· Ἐγὼ ἄνθρωπος μέν εἰμι Ἰουδαῖος, Ταρσεὺς τῆς Κιλικίας, οὐκ ἀσήμου πόλεως πολίτης· δέομαι δέ σου, ἐπίτρεψόν μοι λαλῆσαι πρὸς τὸν λαόν.But Paul answered, “I am a Jew from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Now I beg you to allow me to speak to the people.” 40Toe hy dit toegelaat het, het Paulus op die trappe gaan staan en met die hand vir die volk gewink; en toe daar 'n groot stilte gekom het, het hy hulle in die Hebreeuse taal toegespreek en gesê:ἐπιτρέψαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ὁ Παῦλος ἑστὼς ἐπὶ τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν κατέσεισε τῇ χειρὶ τῷ λαῷ, πολλῆς δὲ σιγῆς γενομένης ⸀προσεφώνησεν τῇ Ἑβραΐδι διαλέκτῳ λέγωνHaving received permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned to the crowd. A great hush came over the crowd, and he addressed them in Hebrew:
