At Iconium, Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue, where they spoke so well that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed.
But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
3Hulle het dan 'n geruime tyd gebly en met vrymoedigheid gespreek, steunend op die Here wat getuig het van die woord van Sy genade deurdat Hy gegee het dat tekens en wonders deur hulle hande gebeur.ἱκανὸν μὲν οὖν χρόνον διέτριψαν παρρησιαζόμενοι ἐπὶ τῷ κυρίῳ τῷ μαρτυροῦντι ⸀τῷ λόγῳ τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ, διδόντι σημεῖα καὶ τέρατα γίνεσθαι διὰ τῶν χειρῶν αὐτῶν.So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who affirmed the message of His grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders. 4Maar die menigte van die stad het verdeeld geraak, en sommige was met die Jode en ander met die apostels.ἐσχίσθη δὲ τὸ πλῆθος τῆς πόλεως, καὶ οἱ μὲν ἦσαν σὺν τοῖς Ἰουδαίοις οἱ δὲ σὺν τοῖς ἀποστόλοις.The people of the city were divided. Some sided with the Jews, and others with the apostles. 5En toe daar by die heidene sowel as die Jode saam met hulle leiers 'n aandrang ontstaan het om hulle te mishandel en te stenig,ὡς δὲ ἐγένετο ὁρμὴ τῶν ἐθνῶν τε καὶ Ἰουδαίων σὺν τοῖς ἄρχουσιν αὐτῶν ὑβρίσαι καὶ λιθοβολῆσαι αὐτούς,But when the Gentiles and Jews, together with their rulers, set out to mistreat and stone them, 6het hulle dit besef en gevlug na die stede van Likaonië, Listra en Derbe, en die omliggende streek,συνιδόντες κατέφυγον εἰς τὰς πόλεις τῆς Λυκαονίας Λύστραν καὶ Δέρβην καὶ τὴν περίχωρον,they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding region, 7en daar het hulle die evangelie verkondig.κἀκεῖ ⸂εὐαγγελιζόμενοι ἦσαν⸃.where they continued to preach the gospel.
8En in Listra het 'n sekere man gesit wat magteloos in sy voete was, lam van sy moeder se skoot af, wat nog nooit geloop het nie.Καί τις ἀνὴρ ⸂ἀδύνατος ἐν Λύστροις⸃ τοῖς ποσὶν ἐκάθητο, χωλὸς ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς ⸀αὐτοῦ, ὃς οὐδέποτε ⸀περιεπάτησεν.In Lystra there sat a man crippled in his feet, who was lame from birth and had never walked.
οὗτος ⸀ἤκουσεν τοῦ Παύλου λαλοῦντος· ὃς ἀτενίσας αὐτῷ καὶ ἰδὼν ὅτι ⸂ἔχει πίστιν⸃ τοῦ σωθῆναιThis man was listening to the words of Paul, who looked intently at him and saw that he had faith to be healed.
In a loud voice Paul called out, “Stand up on your feet!” And the man jumped up and began to walk. 11En toe die skares sien wat Paulus gedoen het, het hulle hul stem verhef en in Likaonies gesê: “Die gode het aan mense gelyk geword en na ons afgekom!”οἵ ⸀τε ὄχλοι ἰδόντες ὃ ⸀ἐποίησεν Παῦλος ἐπῆραν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτῶν Λυκαονιστὶ λέγοντες· Οἱ θεοὶ ὁμοιωθέντες ἀνθρώποις κατέβησαν πρὸς ἡμᾶςWhen the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices in the Lycaonian language: “The gods have come down to us in human form!” 12En hulle het Barnabas Zeus genoem, en Paulus Hermes, omdat hy die woordvoerder was.
aLetterlik: die leier van die woord.
Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes, because he was the chief speaker.
13En die priester van die Zeus wat voor die stad was, het bulle en kranse na die poorte gebring en wou saam met die skares offer.ὅ ⸀τε ἱερεὺς τοῦ Διὸς τοῦ ὄντος πρὸ τῆς ⸀πόλεως ταύρους καὶ στέμματα ἐπὶ τοὺς πυλῶνας ἐνέγκας σὺν τοῖς ὄχλοις ἤθελεν θύειν.The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought bulls and wreaths to the city gates, hoping to offer a sacrifice along with the crowds. 14Maar toe die apostels Barnabas en Paulus dit hoor, het hulle hul klere geskeur en in die skare ingespring en geroepἀκούσαντες δὲ οἱ ἀπόστολοι Βαρναβᾶς καὶ Παῦλος, διαρρήξαντες τὰ ἱμάτια ⸀αὐτῶν ⸀ἐξεπήδησαν εἰς τὸν ὄχλον κράζοντεςBut when the apostles Barnabas and Paul found out about this, they tore their clothes and rushed into the crowd, shouting, 15en gesê: “Manne, waarom doen julle hierdie dinge? Ons is ook mense van dieselfde aard as julle, en ons bring aan julle die goeie nuus dat julle jul van hierdie nietige dinge moet bekeer tot die lewende God, wat die hemel en die aarde en die see en alles wat daarin is, gemaak het,καὶ λέγοντες· Ἄνδρες, τί ταῦτα ποιεῖτε; καὶ ἡμεῖς ὁμοιοπαθεῖς ἐσμεν ὑμῖν ἄνθρωποι, εὐαγγελιζόμενοι ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τούτων τῶν ματαίων ἐπιστρέφειν ἐπὶ ⸀θεὸν ζῶντα ὃς ἐποίησεν τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐν αὐτοῖς·“Men, why are you doing this? We too are only men, human like you. We are bringing you good news that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them. 16wat in die geslagte wat verby is, al die nasies toegelaat het om hulle weë te gaan;ὃς ἐν ταῖς παρῳχημέναις γενεαῖς εἴασεν πάντα τὰ ἔθνη πορεύεσθαι ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτῶν·In past generations, He let all nations go their own way.
Yet He has not left Himself without testimony to His goodness: He gives you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.”
Even with these words, Paul and Barnabas could hardly stop the crowds from sacrificing to them.
19Maar daar het Jode van Antiogië en Ikonium gekom, en nadat hulle die skares oorreed en Paulus gestenig het, het hulle hom buite die stad uitgesleep, omdat hulle gemeen het dat hy dood is.Ἐπῆλθαν δὲ ἀπὸ Ἀντιοχείας καὶ Ἰκονίου Ἰουδαῖοι, καὶ πείσαντες τοὺς ὄχλους καὶ λιθάσαντες τὸν Παῦλον ἔσυρον ἔξω τῆς πόλεως, ⸀νομίζοντες αὐτὸν τεθνηκέναι.Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and won over the crowds. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, presuming he was dead. But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. And the next day he left with Barnabas for Derbe.
21En nadat hulle in daardie stad die evangelie verkondig en 'n aansienlike aantal dissipels gemaak het, het hulle teruggekeer na Listra en na Ikonium en na Antiogië,Εὐαγγελισάμενοί τε τὴν πόλιν ἐκείνην καὶ μαθητεύσαντες ἱκανοὺς ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς τὴν Λύστραν καὶ ⸀εἰς Ἰκόνιον καὶ ⸁εἰς Ἀντιόχειαν,They preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22en die siele van die dissipels versterk en hulle aangemoedig om in die geloof te bly, en dat ons deur baie verdrukkinge in die koninkryk van God moet ingaan.ἐπιστηρίζοντες τὰς ψυχὰς τῶν μαθητῶν, παρακαλοῦντες ἐμμένειν τῇ πίστει καὶ ὅτι διὰ πολλῶν θλίψεων δεῖ ἡμᾶς εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ.strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. “We must endure many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said. 23En nadat hulle vir hulle in elke gemeente ouderlinge aangestel en met vas gebid het, het hulle hulle toevertrou aan die Here in wie hulle geglo het.χειροτονήσαντες δὲ αὐτοῖς ⸂κατʼ ἐκκλησίαν πρεσβυτέρους⸃ προσευξάμενοι μετὰ νηστειῶν παρέθεντο αὐτοὺς τῷ κυρίῳ εἰς ὃν πεπιστεύκεισαν.Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church, praying and fasting as they entrusted them to the Lord, in whom they had believed. 24En nadat hulle deur Pisidië getrek het, het hulle in Pamfilië aangekom,καὶ διελθόντες τὴν Πισιδίαν ἦλθον εἰς ⸀τὴν Παμφυλίαν,After passing through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. 25en nadat hulle in Perge die woord gespreek het, het hulle afgegaan na Attalië,καὶ λαλήσαντες ἐν Πέργῃ τὸν λόγον κατέβησαν εἰς Ἀττάλειαν,And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia. 26en daarvandaan het hulle na Antiogië weggeseil, van waar hulle aan die genade van God toevertrou was vir die werk wat hulle volbring het.κἀκεῖθεν ἀπέπλευσαν εἰς Ἀντιόχειαν, ὅθεν ἦσαν παραδεδομένοι τῇ χάριτι τοῦ θεοῦ εἰς τὸ ἔργον ὃ ἐπλήρωσαν.From Attalia they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had just completed. When they arrived, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them, and how He had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. 28En hulle het nie 'n geringe tyd by die dissipels deurgebring nie.διέτριβον ⸀δὲ χρόνον οὐκ ὀλίγον σὺν τοῖς μαθηταῖς.And they spent a long time there with the disciples.
