1En Dawid het gesê: “Dit is die huis van die HERE God, en dit is die altaar vir brandoffer vir Israel.”וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔יד זֶ֣ה ה֔וּא בֵּ֖ית יְהוָ֣ה הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וְזֶה־מִּזְבֵּ֥חַ לְעֹלָ֖ה לְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סThen David said, “Here shall be the house of the LORD God, as well as the altar of burnt offering for Israel.” 2En Dawid het gesê dat die vreemdelinge wat in die land van Israel was, versamel moes word; en hy het klipkappers aangestel om gekapte klippe te kap om die huis van God te bou.וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔יד לִכְנוֹס֙ אֶת־הַגֵּרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּאֶ֣רֶץ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיַּעֲמֵ֣ד חֹֽצְבִ֗ים לַחְצוֹב֙ אַבְנֵ֣י גָזִ֔ית לִבְנ֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃So David gave orders to gather the foreigners in the land of Israel, from whom he appointed stonecutters to prepare finished stones for building the house of God. 3En yster in oorvloed het Dawid voorberei vir die spykers van die deure van die poorte en vir die kramme, en koper in oorvloed, sonder gewig.וּבַרְזֶ֣ל׀ לָ֠רֹב לַֽמִּסְמְרִ֞ים לְדַלְת֧וֹת הַשְּׁעָרִ֛ים וְלַֽמְחַבְּר֖וֹת הֵכִ֣ין דָּוִ֑יד וּנְחֹ֥שֶׁת לָרֹ֖ב אֵ֥ין מִשְׁקָֽל׃David provided a large quantity of iron to make the nails for the doors of the gateways and for the fittings, together with more bronze than could be weighed 4En sederhout sonder getal, want die Sidoniërs en die Tiriërs het sederhout in oorvloed na Dawid gebring.וַעֲצֵ֥י אֲרָזִ֖ים לְאֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר כִּֽי הֵ֠בִיאוּ הַצִּֽידֹנִ֨ים וְהַצֹּרִ֜ים עֲצֵ֧י אֲרָזִ֛ים לָרֹ֖ב לְדָוִֽיד׃ פand more cedar logs than could be counted; for the Sidonians and Tyrians had brought a large quantity of cedar logs to David.

5En Dawid het gesê: “My seun Salomo is jonk en teer, en die huis wat vir die HERE gebou moet word, moet uitermate groot wees, tot 'n naam en tot heerlikheid vir al die lande. Laat ek tog daarvoor voorberei.” En Dawid het voor sy dood in oorvloed voorberei.וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗יד שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנִי֮ נַ֣עַר וָרָךְ֒ וְהַבַּ֜יִת לִבְנ֣וֹת לַיהוָ֗ה לְהַגְדִּ֨יל׀ לְמַ֜עְלָה לְשֵׁ֤ם וּלְתִפְאֶ֨רֶת֙ לְכָל־הָ֣אֲרָצ֔וֹת אָכִ֥ינָה נָּ֖א ל֑וֹ וַיָּ֧כֶן דָּוִ֛יד לָרֹ֖ב לִפְנֵ֥י מוֹתֽוֹ׃And David said, “My son Solomon is young and inexperienced, and the house to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent—famous and glorious throughout all lands. Therefore I must make preparations for it.” So David made lavish preparations before his death.

6En hy het sy seun Salomo geroep en hom beveel om 'n huis vir die HERE, die God van Israel, te bou.וַיִּקְרָ֖א לִשְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנ֑וֹ וַיְצַוֵּ֨הוּ֙ לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ סThen David called for his son Solomon and instructed him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Israel. 7En Dawid het vir Salomo gesê: “Wat my betref, dit was in my hart om 'n huis vir die naam van die HERE my God te bou.

Sommige manuskripte lees: my seun, dit was in my hart om 'n huis vir die naam van die HERE my God te bou.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר דָּוִ֖יד לִשְׁלֹמֹ֑ה אֲנִי֙ הָיָ֣ה עִם־לְבָבִ֔י לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֖ם יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי׃“My son,” said David to Solomon, “it was in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, 8Maar die woord van die HERE het tot my gekom en gesê: ‘Bloed in oorvloed het jy vergiet en groot oorloë het jy gevoer. Jy mag nie 'n huis bou vir My Naam nie, want baie bloed het jy op die aarde voor My aangesig vergiet.וַיְהִ֨י עָלַ֤י דְּבַר־יְהוָה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר דָּ֤ם לָרֹב֙ שָׁפַ֔כְתָּ וּמִלְחָמ֥וֹת גְּדֹל֖וֹת עָשִׂ֑יתָ לֹֽא־תִבְנֶ֥ה בַ֨יִת֙ לִשְׁמִ֔י כִּ֚י דָּמִ֣ים רַבִּ֔ים שָׁפַ֥כְתָּ אַ֖רְצָה לְפָנָֽי׃but this word of the LORD came to me: ‘You have shed much blood and waged great wars. You are not to build a house for My Name because you have shed so much blood on the ground before Me. 9Kyk, 'n seun word vir jou gebore; hy sal 'n man van rus wees, en Ek sal hom rus gee van al sy vyande rondom, want Salomo sal sy naam wees, en vrede en kalmte sal Ek in sy dae aan Israel gee.

Die naam beteken vrede; Salomo klink soos die Hebreeuse woord vir vrede, sjalom.

הִנֵּה־בֵ֞ן נוֹלָ֣ד לָ֗ךְ ה֤וּא יִהְיֶה֙ אִ֣ישׁ מְנוּחָ֔ה וַהֲנִח֥וֹתִי ל֛וֹ מִכָּל־אוֹיְבָ֖יו מִסָּבִ֑יב כִּ֤י שְׁלֹמֹה֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה שְׁמ֔וֹ וְשָׁל֥וֹם וָשֶׁ֛קֶט אֶתֵּ֥ן עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּיָמָֽיו׃But a son will be born to you who will be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side; for his name will be Solomon, and I will grant to Israel peace and quiet during his reign. 10Hy sal 'n huis vir My naam bou, en hy sal vir My 'n seun wees en Ek vir hom 'n vader, en Ek sal die troon van sy koningskap oor Israel tot in ewigheid bevestig.’הֽוּא־יִבְנֶ֥ה בַ֨יִת֙ לִשְׁמִ֔י וְהוּא֙ יִהְיֶה־לִּ֣י לְבֵ֔ן וַאֲנִי־ל֖וֹ לְאָ֑ב וַהֲכִ֨ינוֹתִ֜י כִּסֵּ֧א מַלְכוּת֛וֹ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃He is the one who will build a house for My Name. He will be My son, and I will be his Father. And I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel forever.’ 11Nou, my seun, mag die HERE met jou wees, en jy sal voorspoedig wees en die huis van die HERE jou God bou, soos Hy oor jou gespreek het.עַתָּ֣ה בְנִ֔י יְהִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה עִמָּ֑ךְ וְהִצְלַחְתָּ֗ וּבָנִ֨יתָ֙ בֵּ֚ית יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר עָלֶֽיךָ׃Now, my son, may the LORD be with you, and may you succeed in building the house of the LORD your God, as He said you would. 12Mag die HERE jou net verstand en insig gee en jou oor Israel aanstel, om die wet van die HERE jou God te onderhou.

אַ֣ךְ יִֽתֶּן־לְּךָ֤ יְהוָה֙ שֵׂ֣כֶל וּבִינָ֔ה וִֽיצַוְּךָ֖ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְלִשְׁמ֕וֹר אֶת־תּוֹרַ֖ת יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃Above all, may the LORD give you insight and understanding when He puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the Law of the LORD your God. 13Dan sal jy voorspoedig wees, as jy sorg dra om die insettinge en die verordeninge te doen wat die HERE Moses aangaande Israel beveel het. Wees sterk en moedig; moenie vrees nie en moenie verskrik wees nie.אָ֣ז תַּצְלִ֔יחַ אִם־תִּשְׁמ֗וֹר לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ אֶת־הַֽחֻקִּ֣ים וְאֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֖ה עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל חֲזַ֣ק וֶאֱמָ֔ץ אַל־תִּירָ֖א וְאַל־תֵּחָֽת׃Then you will succeed, if you carefully follow the statutes and ordinances that the LORD commanded Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. 14Kyk, in my swaarkry het ek vir die huis van die HERE honderdduisend talente goud en 'n duisend duisend talente silwer voorberei; en vir die koper en die yster is daar geen gewig nie, want dit is in oorvloed. Ook hout en klippe het ek voorberei, en hierby kan jy meer voeg.

Ongeveer 3 400 ton goud en 34 000 ton silwer, as 'n talent ongeveer 34 kg is.

וְהִנֵּ֨ה בְעָנְיִ֜י הֲכִינ֣וֹתִי לְבֵית־יְהוָ֗ה זָהָ֞ב כִּכָּרִ֤ים מֵֽאָה־אֶ֨לֶף֙ וְכֶ֗סֶף אֶ֤לֶף אֲלָפִים֙ כִּכָּרִ֔ים וְלַנְּחֹ֤שֶׁת וְלַבַּרְזֶל֙ אֵ֣ין מִשְׁקָ֔ל כִּ֥י לָרֹ֖ב הָיָ֑ה וְעֵצִ֤ים וַאֲבָנִים֙ הֲכִינ֔וֹתִי וַעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם תּוֹסִֽיף׃Now behold, I have taken great pains to provide for the house of the LORD—100,000 talents of gold, 1,000,000 talents of silver, and bronze and iron too great to be weighed. I have also provided timber and stone, and you may add to them. 15En by jou is daar werkers in oorvloed: klipkappers en ambagsmanne van klip en hout, en elke wyse in elke werk.וְעִמְּךָ֤ לָרֹב֙ עֹשֵׂ֣י מְלָאכָ֔ה חֹצְבִ֕ים וְחָרָשֵׁ֥י אֶ֖בֶן וָעֵ֑ץ וְכָל־חָכָ֖ם בְּכָל־מְלָאכָֽה׃You also have many workers: stonecutters, masons, carpenters, and men skilled in every kind of work— 16Vir die goud, vir die silwer en vir die koper en vir die yster is daar geen getal nie. Staan op en doen dit, en mag die HERE met jou wees.”לַזָּהָ֥ב לַכֶּ֛סֶף וְלַנְּחֹ֥שֶׁת וְלַבַּרְזֶ֖ל אֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר ק֣וּם וַעֲשֵׂ֔ה וִיהִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה עִמָּֽךְ׃in gold and silver, bronze and iron—craftsmen beyond number. Now begin the work, and may the LORD be with you.”

17En Dawid het al die owerstes van Israel beveel om sy seun Salomo te help:וַיְצַ֤ו דָּוִיד֙ לְכָל־שָׂרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לַעְזֹ֖ר לִשְׁלֹמֹ֥ה בְנֽוֹ׃Then David ordered all the leaders of Israel to help his son Solomon: 18“Is die HERE julle God nie met julle nie, en het Hy julle nie rondom rus gegee nie? Want Hy het die inwoners van die land in my hand gegee, en die land is onderwerp voor die aangesig van die HERE en voor die aangesig van Sy volk.הֲלֹ֨א יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ עִמָּכֶ֔ם וְהֵנִ֥יחַ לָכֶ֖ם מִסָּבִ֑יב כִּ֣י׀ נָתַ֣ן בְּיָדִ֗י אֵ֚ת יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ וְנִכְבְּשָׁ֥ה הָאָ֛רֶץ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה וְלִפְנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹ׃“Is not the LORD your God with you, and has He not granted you rest on every side? For He has given the inhabitants of the land into my hand, and the land has been subdued before the LORD and His people. 19Gee nou julle hart en julle siel om die HERE julle God te soek. Staan op en bou die heiligdom van die HERE God, om die ark van die verbond van die HERE en die heilige voorwerpe van God in te bring in die huis wat vir die Naam van die HERE gebou gaan word.”עַתָּ֗ה תְּנ֤וּ לְבַבְכֶם֙ וְנַפְשְׁכֶ֔ם לִדְר֖וֹשׁ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם וְק֗וּמוּ וּבְנוּ֙ אֶת־מִקְדַּשׁ֙ יְהוָ֣ה הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לְהָבִ֞יא אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית־יְהוָ֗ה וּכְלֵי֙ קֹ֣דֶשׁ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לַבַּ֖יִת הַנִּבְנֶ֥ה לְשֵׁם־יְהוָֽה׃ פNow set your heart and soul to seek the LORD your God. Begin building the sanctuary of the LORD God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the holy articles of God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the LORD.”
