Now Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, along with cedar logs, stonemasons, and carpenters, to build a palace for him.2En Dawid het geweet dat die HERE hom as koning oor Israel bevestig het, want sy koningskap is hoog opgehef ter wille van sy volk Israel. And David realized that the LORD had established him as king over Israel and had highly exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel.
And David took more wives in Jerusalem and became the father of more sons and daughters.4En dit is die name van die kinders wat hy in Jerusalem gehad het: Sammua en Sobab, Natan en Salomo,aLetterlik: die name van die geborenes wat vir hom in Jerusalem was. These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,5en Jibhar en Elisua en Elpelet,וְיִבְחָ֥ר וֶאֱלִישׁ֖וּעַ וְאֶלְפָּֽלֶט׃Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,6en Noga en Nefeg en Jafia,וְנֹ֥גַהּ וְנֶ֖פֶג וְיָפִֽיעַ׃Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,7en Elisama en Beëljada en Elifelet. Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.
When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, they all went in search of him; but David learned of this and went out to face them.9En die Filistyne het gekom en hulle in die dal van Refaïm versprei. Now the Philistines had come and raided the Valley of Rephaim.10Toe het Dawid God gevra: “Moet ek optrek teen hulle? En sal U hulle in my hand gee?” En die <nd>HERE</nd> het vir hom gesê: “Trek op, en Ek sal hulle in jou hand gee.” So David inquired of God, “Should I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” “Go,” replied the LORD, “for I will deliver them into your hand.”11Toe het hulle na Baäl-Perasim opgetrek, en Dawid het hulle daar verslaan. So David and his men went up to Baal-perazim, where he defeated the Philistines and said, “Like a bursting flood, God has burst out against my enemies by my hand.” So they called that place Baal-perazim.12En hulle het hulle gode daar agtergelaat, en Dawid het die bevel gegee, en hulle is met vuur verbrand.aLetterlik: en Dawid het gesê. There the Philistines abandoned their gods, and David ordered that they be burned in the fire.
So David again inquired of God, who answered him, “Do not march up after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees.15En dit sal wees: as jy die geluid van marsering in die toppe van die balsemstruike hoor, dan moet jy uitgaan in die stryd, want God het voor jou uitgegaan om die kamp van die Filistyne te slaan. As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”16En Dawid het gedoen soos God hom beveel het, en hulle het die kamp van die Filistyne geslaan, van Gibeon af tot by Geser. So David did as God had commanded him, and they struck down the army of the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.17En Dawid se naam het uitgegaan in al die lande, en die <nd>HERE</nd> het die vrees vir hom op al die nasies gelê. And David’s fame went out into every land, and the LORD caused all nations to fear him.
