1Hy het hulle toe 'n gelykenis vertel oor die noodsaak dat hulle altyd moet bid en nie moedeloos moet word nie,Ἔλεγεν ⸀δὲ παραβολὴν αὐτοῖς πρὸς τὸ δεῖν πάντοτε προσεύχεσθαι ⸀αὐτοὺς καὶ μὴ ἐγκακεῖν,Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray at all times and not lose heart: 2en gesê: “Daar was in 'n sekere stad 'n regter wat God nie gevrees het nie en geen mens ontsien het nie.λέγων· Κριτής τις ἦν ἔν τινι πόλει τὸν θεὸν μὴ φοβούμενος καὶ ἄνθρωπον μὴ ἐντρεπόμενος.“In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected men. 3En daar was 'n weduwee in daardie stad, en sy het telkens na hom gekom en gesê: ‘Verskaf my reg teen my teenparty.’χήρα δὲ ἦν ἐν τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἤρχετο πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγουσα· Ἐκδίκησόν με ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀντιδίκου μου.And there was a widow in that town who kept appealing to him, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ 4En vir 'n tyd lank wou hy nie, maar daarna het hy by homself gesê: ‘Al vrees ek God nie en ontsien ek ook geen mens nie,καὶ οὐκ ⸀ἤθελεν ἐπὶ χρόνον, μετὰ ⸂ταῦτα δὲ⸃ εἶπεν ἐν ἑαυτῷ· Εἰ καὶ τὸν θεὸν οὐ φοβοῦμαι ⸂οὐδὲ ἄνθρωπον⸃ ἐντρέπομαι,For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect men, 5sal ek tog, omdat hierdie weduwee my moeite aandoen, aan haar reg verskaf, sodat sy nie uiteindelik kom en my uitput nie.’”
aLetterlik: my 'n blou oog slaan.
διά γε τὸ παρέχειν μοι κόπον τὴν χήραν ταύτην ἐκδικήσω αὐτήν, ἵνα μὴ εἰς τέλος ἐρχομένη ὑπωπιάζῃ με.yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice. Otherwise, she will wear me out with her perpetual requests.’”
6En die Here het gesê: “Luister wat die regter van ongeregtigheid sê.εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος· Ἀκούσατε τί ὁ κριτὴς τῆς ἀδικίας λέγει·And the Lord said, “Listen to the words of the unjust judge. 7Sal God dan beslis nie die reg van Sy uitverkorenes laat geskied nie, hulle wat dag en nag tot Hom roep, en lank geduld met hulle hê?
aOf: en Hy talm oor hulle?
ὁ δὲ θεὸς οὐ μὴ ποιήσῃ τὴν ἐκδίκησιν τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν αὐτοῦ τῶν βοώντων ⸀αὐτῷ ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός, καὶ ⸀μακροθυμεῖ ἐπʼ αὐτοῖς;Will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night? Will He delay in helping them?
πλὴν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐλθὼν ἆρα εὑρήσει τὴν πίστιν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς;I tell you, He will promptly carry out justice on their behalf. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?”
9Hy het ook aan sommige wat op hulleself vertrou het dat hulle regverdig is en die ander verag het, hierdie gelykenis vertel:Εἶπεν δὲ ⸀καὶ πρός τινας τοὺς πεποιθότας ἐφʼ ἑαυτοῖς ὅτι εἰσὶν δίκαιοι καὶ ἐξουθενοῦντας τοὺς λοιποὺς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην·To some who trusted in their own righteousness and viewed others with contempt, He also told this parable: 10“Twee mense het na die tempel opgegaan om te bid, die een 'n Fariseër en die ander 'n tollenaar.Ἄνθρωποι δύο ἀνέβησαν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν προσεύξασθαι, ⸀ὁ εἷς Φαρισαῖος καὶ ὁ ἕτερος τελώνης.“Two men went up to the temple to pray. One was a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11Die Fariseër het gaan staan en hierdie dinge by homself gebid: ‘God, ek dank U dat ek nie soos die res van die mense is nie: rowers, ongeregtiges, egbrekers, of ook soos hierdie tollenaar.ὁ Φαρισαῖος σταθεὶς ⸂πρὸς ἑαυτὸν ταῦτα⸃ προσηύχετο· Ὁ θεός, εὐχαριστῶ σοι ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ ⸀ὥσπερ οἱ λοιποὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων, ἅρπαγες, ἄδικοι, μοιχοί, ἢ καὶ ὡς οὗτος ὁ τελώνης·The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—swindlers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12Ek vas twee keer per week, ek gee tiendes van alles wat ek verkry.’
aLetterlik: twee keer van die sabbat.
νηστεύω δὶς τοῦ σαββάτου, ⸀ἀποδεκατῶ πάντα ὅσα κτῶμαι.I fast twice a week and pay tithes of all that I acquire.’
13Maar die tollenaar het ver weg gestaan en wou nie eens sy oë na die hemel ophef nie, maar het op sy bors geslaan en gesê: ‘God, wees my, die sondaar, genadig.’⸂ὁ δὲ⸃ τελώνης μακρόθεν ἑστὼς οὐκ ἤθελεν οὐδὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ⸂ἐπᾶραι εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν⸃, ἀλλʼ ⸀ἔτυπτε τὸ στῆθος ⸀αὐτοῦ λέγων· Ὁ θεός, ἱλάσθητί μοι τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ.But the tax collector stood at a distance, unwilling even to lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’ 14Ek sê vir julle: Hierdie een het geregverdig na sy huis afgegaan, eerder as daardie een; want elkeen wat homself verhoog, sal verneder word, maar wie homself verneder, sal verhoog word.”λέγω ὑμῖν, κατέβη οὗτος δεδικαιωμένος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ ⸂παρʼ ἐκεῖνον⸃· ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται, ὁ δὲ ταπεινῶν ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται.I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Now people were even bringing their babies to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them. And when the disciples saw this, they rebuked those who brought them. 16Maar Jesus het hulle na Hom geroep en gesê: “Laat die kindertjies na My toe kom en moenie hulle verhinder nie, want aan sulkes behoort die koninkryk van God.ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς ⸂προσεκαλέσατο αὐτὰ λέγων⸃· Ἄφετε τὰ παιδία ἔρχεσθαι πρός με καὶ μὴ κωλύετε αὐτά, τῶν γὰρ τοιούτων ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ θεοῦ.But Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17Voorwaar, Ek sê vir julle: Wie die koninkryk van God nie soos 'n kindjie ontvang nie, sal beslis nie daarin ingaan nie.”ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, ὃς ⸀ἂν μὴ δέξηται τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ ὡς παιδίον, οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς αὐτήν.Truly I tell you, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
18En 'n sekere leier het Hom gevra: “Goeie Meester, wat moet ek doen om die ewige lewe te beërf?”Καὶ ἐπηρώτησέν τις αὐτὸν ἄρχων λέγων· Διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ, τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω;Then a certain ruler asked Him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 19En Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Waarom noem jy My goed? Niemand is goed nie, behalwe een: God.εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Τί με λέγεις ἀγαθόν; οὐδεὶς ἀγαθὸς εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ θεός.“Why do you call Me good?” Jesus replied. “No one is good except God alone.
You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and mother.’ ”
21En hy het gesê: “Dit alles het ek van my jeug af onderhou.”ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Ταῦτα πάντα ⸀ἐφύλαξα ἐκ νεότητος ⸀μου.“All these I have kept from my youth,” he said. 22Toe Jesus dit hoor, het Hy vir hom gesê: “Een ding ontbreek jou nog: verkoop alles wat jy het en deel dit uit aan armes, en jy sal 'n skat in die hemele hê; en kom hierheen, volg My.”ἀκούσας ⸀δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Ἔτι ἕν σοι λείπει· πάντα ὅσα ἔχεις πώλησον καὶ διάδος πτωχοῖς, καὶ ἕξεις θησαυρὸν ἐν ⸀οὐρανοῖς, καὶ δεῦρο ἀκολούθει μοι.On hearing this, Jesus told him, “You still lack one thing: Sell everything you own and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.” 23Maar toe hy dit hoor, het hy diep bedroef geword, want hy was baie ryk.ὁ δὲ ἀκούσας ταῦτα περίλυπος ⸀ἐγενήθη, ἦν γὰρ πλούσιος σφόδρα.But when the ruler heard this, he became very sad, because he was extremely wealthy.
Ἰδὼν δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ ⸀Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν· Πῶς δυσκόλως οἱ τὰ χρήματα ἔχοντες ⸂εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσπορεύονται⸃·Seeing the man’s sadness, Jesus said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
25Want dit is makliker vir 'n kameel om deur die oog van 'n naald te gaan as vir 'n ryke om in die koninkryk van God in te gaan.”εὐκοπώτερον γάρ ἐστιν κάμηλον διὰ ⸂τρήματος βελόνης⸃ εἰσελθεῖν ἢ πλούσιον εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν.Indeed, it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 26Dié wat dit gehoor het, sê toe: “Wie kan dan gered word?”Εἶπαν δὲ οἱ ἀκούσαντες· Καὶ τίς δύναται σωθῆναι;Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?” 27Maar Hy het gesê: “Wat by mense onmoontlik is, is by God moontlik.”ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Τὰ ἀδύνατα παρὰ ἀνθρώποις δυνατὰ ⸂παρὰ τῷ θεῷ ἐστιν⸃.But Jesus said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” 28Toe sê Petrus: “Kyk, ons het wat ons eie was, verlaat en U gevolg.”
Εἶπεν δὲ ⸀ὁ Πέτρος· Ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ⸂ἀφέντες τὰ ἴδια⸃ ἠκολουθήσαμέν σοι.“Look,” said Peter, “we have left all we had to follow You.”
29En Hy het vir hulle gesê: “Voorwaar Ek sê vir julle: Daar is niemand wat huis of vrou of broers of ouers of kinders verlaat het ter wille van die koninkryk van God nie,ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδείς ἐστιν ὃς ἀφῆκεν οἰκίαν ἢ ⸂γυναῖκα ἢ ἀδελφοὺς ἢ γονεῖς⸃ ἢ τέκνα ἕνεκεν τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ θεοῦ,“Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30wat nie in hierdie tyd baie male meer sal terugontvang nie, en in die eeu wat kom, die ewige lewe.”ὃς ⸀οὐχὶ μὴ ⸀ἀπολάβῃ πολλαπλασίονα ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ αἰῶνι τῷ ἐρχομένῳ ζωὴν αἰώνιον.will fail to receive many times more in this age—and in the age to come, eternal life.”
31Hy het die twaalf by Hom geneem en vir hulle gesê: “Kyk, ons gaan op na Jerusalem, en alles wat deur die profete oor die Seun van die mens geskryf is, sal volbring word;Παραλαβὼν δὲ τοὺς δώδεκα εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Ἰδοὺ ἀναβαίνομεν εἰς ⸀Ἰερουσαλήμ, καὶ τελεσθήσεται πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα διὰ τῶν προφητῶν τῷ υἱῷ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου·Then Jesus took the Twelve aside and said to them, “Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything the prophets have written about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32want Hy sal aan die heidene oorgelewer word en bespot en gesmaad en bespuug word,παραδοθήσεται γὰρ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ ἐμπαιχθήσεται καὶ ὑβρισθήσεται καὶ ἐμπτυσθήσεται,He will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. 33en nadat hulle Hom gegesel het, sal hulle Hom doodmaak; en op die derde dag sal Hy opstaan.”καὶ μαστιγώσαντες ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν, καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ ἀναστήσεται.They will flog Him and kill Him, and on the third day He will rise again.” 34En hulle het niks hiervan verstaan nie, en hierdie woord was van hulle verborge, en hulle het nie begryp wat gesê is nie.καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐδὲν τούτων συνῆκαν, καὶ ἦν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο κεκρυμμένον ἀπʼ αὐτῶν, καὶ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκον τὰ λεγόμενα.But the disciples did not understand any of these things. The meaning was hidden from them, and they did not comprehend what He was saying.
As Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting beside the road, begging. 36Toe hy 'n skare hoor verbygaan, het hy gevra wat dit kon wees.ἀκούσας δὲ ὄχλου διαπορευομένου ἐπυνθάνετο ⸀τί εἴη τοῦτο·When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. 37Hulle het hom vertel dat Jesus die Nasarener verbygaan.ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ αὐτῷ ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζωραῖος παρέρχεται.“Jesus of Nazareth is passing by,” they told him. 38En hy het uitgeroep en gesê: “Jesus, Seun van Dawid, ontferm U oor my!”καὶ ἐβόησεν λέγων· Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ Δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με.So he called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39En dié wat voor geloop het, het hom bestraf dat hy moet stilbly; maar hy het des te meer geroep: “Seun van Dawid, ontferm U oor my!”καὶ οἱ προάγοντες ἐπετίμων αὐτῷ ἵνα ⸀σιγήσῃ· αὐτὸς δὲ πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἔκραζεν· Υἱὲ Δαυίδ, ἐλέησόν με.Those who led the way admonished him to be silent, but he cried out all the louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40Jesus het stilgestaan en beveel dat hy na Hom toe gebring word. ἐγγίσαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτόν·Jesus stopped and directed that the man be brought to Him. When he had come near, Jesus asked him, 41“Wat wil jy hê moet Ek vir jou doen?” En hy het gesê: “Here, dat ek weer kan sien.”⸀Τί σοι θέλεις ποιήσω; ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Κύριε, ἵνα ἀναβλέψω.“What do you want Me to do for you?” “Lord,” he said, “let me see again.” 42En Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Sien weer! Jou geloof het jou genees.”
aLetterlik: gered.
Jesus replied. “Your faith has healed you.”
Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.
