1Josia het in Jerusalem ’n pasga vir die HERE gehou, en hulle het die pasga op die veertiende van die eerste maand geslag.וַיַּ֨עַשׂ יֹאשִׁיָּ֧הוּ בִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֛ם פֶּ֖סַח לַיהוָ֑ה וַיִּשְׁחֲט֣וּ הַפֶּ֔סַח בְּאַרְבָּעָ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר לַחֹ֥דֶשׁ הָרִאשֽׁוֹן׃Then Josiah kept the Passover to the LORD in Jerusalem, and the Passover lamb was slaughtered on the fourteenth day of the first month. 2Hy het die priesters op hulle wagposte laat staan en hulle versterk vir die diens van die huis van die HERE.וַיַּעֲמֵ֥ד הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים עַל־מִשְׁמְרוֹתָ֑ם וַֽיְחַזְּקֵ֔ם לַעֲבוֹדַ֖ת בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃He appointed the priests to their duties and encouraged them in the service of the house of the LORD. 3Hy het gesê vir die Leviete, vir hele Israel, wat aan die HERE heilig is: “Sit die heilige ark in die huis wat Salomo, die seun van Dawid, koning van Israel, gebou het. Julle het geen las meer op die skouer nie. Dien nou die HERE, julle God, en Sy volk Israel.וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לַ֠לְוִיִּם לְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל הַקְּדוֹשִׁ֣ים לַיהוָ֗ה תְּנ֤וּ אֶת־אֲרוֹן־הַקֹּ֨דֶשׁ֙ בַּ֠בַּיִת אֲשֶׁ֨ר בָּנָ֜ה שְׁלֹמֹ֤ה בֶן־דָּוִיד֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֵין־לָכֶ֥ם מַשָּׂ֖א בַּכָּתֵ֑ף עַתָּ֗ה עִבְדוּ֙ אֶת־יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם וְאֵ֖ת עַמּ֥וֹ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃To the Levites who taught all Israel and were holy to the LORD, Josiah said: “Put the holy ark in the temple built by Solomon son of David king of Israel. It is not to be carried around on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel. 4En maak julle gereed volgens julle vaderhuise, volgens julle afdelings, volgens die geskrif van Dawid, die koning van Israel, en volgens die skrywe van Salomo, sy seun.וְהָכִ֥ונוּ לְבֵית־אֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם כְּמַחְלְקוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם בִּכְתָ֗ב דָּוִיד֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּבְמִכְתַּ֖ב שְׁלֹמֹ֥ה בְנֽוֹ׃Prepare yourselves by families in your divisions, according to the instructions written by David king of Israel and Solomon his son. 5En staan in die heiligdom volgens die groepe van die vaderhuise, vir julle broers, die seuns van die volk, en ’n afdeling van ’n vaderhuis vir die Leviete.וְעִמְד֣וּ בַקֹּ֗דֶשׁ לִפְלֻגּוֹת֙ בֵּ֣ית הָֽאָב֔וֹת לַאֲחֵיכֶ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י הָעָ֑ם וַחֲלֻקַּ֥ת בֵּֽית־אָ֖ב לַלְוִיִּֽם׃Moreover, stand in the Holy Place by the divisions of the families of your kinsmen the lay people, and by the divisions of the families of the Levites. 6En slag die pasga en heilig julle en maak gereed vir julle broers, om te doen volgens die woord van die HERE deur die hand van Moses.”וְשַׁחֲט֖וּ הַפָּ֑סַח וְהִתְקַדְּשׁוּ֙ וְהָכִ֣ינוּ לַאֲחֵיכֶ֔ם לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת כִּדְבַר־יְהוָ֖ה בְּיַד־מֹשֶֽׁה׃ פSlaughter the Passover lambs, consecrate yourselves, and make preparations for your fellow countrymen to carry out the word of the LORD given by Moses.” 7Josia het vir die seuns van die volk kleinvee bygedra: lammers en bokkies, almal vir die pasgas, vir almal wat teenwoordig was, tot 'n getal van 30 000, en 3 000 beeste; dit was uit die besit van die koning.

וַיָּ֣רֶם יֹאשִׁיָּ֣הוּ לִבְנֵ֪י הָעָ֟ם צֹ֞אן כְּבָשִׂ֣ים וּבְנֵֽי־עִזִּים֮ הַכֹּ֣ל לַפְּסָחִים֒ לְכָל־הַנִּמְצָ֗א לְמִסְפַּר֙ שְׁלֹשִׁ֣ים אֶ֔לֶף וּבָקָ֖ר שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֑ים אֵ֖לֶּה מֵרְכ֥וּשׁ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ סFrom his own flocks and herds Josiah contributed 30,000 lambs and goats plus 3,000 bulls for the Passover offerings for all the people who were present. 8En sy owerstes het as ’n vrywillige gawe bygedra vir die volk, vir die priesters en vir die Leviete. 10So is die diens gereed gemaak, en die priesters het op hulle plek gaan staan, en die Leviete volgens hulle afdelings, volgens die gebod van die koning.וַתִּכּ֖וֹן הָעֲבוֹדָ֑ה וַיַּֽעַמְד֨וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֧ים עַל־עָמְדָ֛ם וְהַלְוִיִּ֥ם עַל־מַחְלְקוֹתָ֖ם כְּמִצְוַ֥ת הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃So the service was prepared; the priests stood in their places and the Levites in their divisions according to the king’s command. 11Hulle het die pasga geslag, en die priesters het uit hulle hand gesprinkel, terwyl die Leviete die vel afgestroop het.וַֽיִּשְׁחֲט֖וּ הַפָּ֑סַח וַיִּזְרְק֤וּ הַכֹּהֲנִים֙ מִיָּדָ֔ם וְהַלְוִיִּ֖ם מַפְשִׁיטִֽים׃And they slaughtered the Passover lambs, while the priests splattered the blood handed to them and the Levites skinned the animals. 12Hulle het die brandoffers eenkant gesit om dit aan die afdelings van die vaderhuis te gee, vir die seuns van die volk, om dit aan die HERE te offer, soos geskryf staan in die boek van Moses; en so ook met die beeste.וַיָּסִ֨ירוּ הָעֹלָ֜ה לְ֠תִתָּם לְמִפְלַגּ֤וֹת לְבֵית־אָבוֹת֙ לִבְנֵ֣י הָעָ֔ם לְהַקְרִיב֙ לַיהוָ֔ה כַּכָּת֖וּב בְּסֵ֣פֶר מֹשֶׁ֑ה וְכֵ֖ן לַבָּקָֽר׃They set aside the burnt offerings to be given to the divisions of the families of the people to offer to the LORD, as it is written in the Book of Moses. And they did the same with the bulls. 13Hulle het die pasga op die vuur gekook volgens die verordening, en die heilige offers het hulle in potte, ketels en panne gekook, en hulle het dit haastig na al die seuns van die volk gebring.וַֽיְבַשְּׁל֥וּ הַפֶּ֛סַח בָּאֵ֖שׁ כַּמִּשְׁפָּ֑ט וְהַקֳּדָשִׁ֣ים בִּשְּׁל֗וּ בַּסִּיר֤וֹת וּבַדְּוָדִים֙ וּבַצֵּ֣לָח֔וֹת וַיָּרִ֖יצוּ לְכָל־בְּנֵ֥י הָעָֽם׃They roasted the Passover animals on the fire according to the regulation, and they boiled the other holy offerings in pots, kettles, and bowls and quickly brought them to all the people. 14En daarna het hulle vir hulleself en vir die priesters gereed gemaak, want die priesters, die seuns van Aäron, was besig om die brandoffer en die vetstukke te offer tot die nag toe; en die Leviete het vir hulleself en vir die priesters, die seuns van Aäron, gereed gemaak.וְאַחַ֗ר הֵכִ֤ינוּ לָהֶם֙ וְלַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים כִּ֤י הַכֹּהֲנִים֙ בְּנֵ֣י אַהֲרֹ֔ן בְּהַֽעֲל֛וֹת הָעוֹלָ֥ה וְהַחֲלָבִ֖ים עַד־לָ֑יְלָה וְהַלְוִיִּם֙ הֵכִ֣ינוּ לָהֶ֔ם וְלַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים בְּנֵ֥י אַהֲרֹֽן׃Afterward, they made preparations for themselves and for the priests, since the priests, the descendants of Aaron, were offering up burnt offerings and fat until nightfall. So the Levites made preparations for themselves and for the priests, the descendants of Aaron. 15En die sangers, die seuns van Asaf, was op hulle plek volgens die gebod van Dawid en Asaf en Heman en Jedutun, die siener van die koning, en die poortwagters by elke poort; dit was nie vir hulle nodig om van hulle diens af weg te gaan nie, want hulle broers, die Leviete, het vir hulle gereed gemaak.

None of the kings of Israel ever observed a Passover like the one that Josiah observed with the priests, the Levites, all Judah, the Israelites who were present, and the people of Jerusalem. 19In die agtiende jaar van die koningskap van Josia is hierdie pasga gehou.בִּשְׁמוֹנֶ֤ה עֶשְׂרֵה֙ שָׁנָ֔ה לְמַלְכ֖וּת יֹאשִׁיָּ֑הוּ נַעֲשָׂ֖ה הַפֶּ֥סַח הַזֶּֽה׃In the eighteenth year of Josiah’s reign, this Passover was observed.

20Ná dit alles, nadat Josia die huis in gereedheid gebring het, het Neko, koning van Egipte, opgetrek om by Karkemis aan die Eufraat te veg, en Josia het uitgetrek om hom tegemoet te gaan.אַחֲרֵ֣י כָל־זֹ֗את אֲשֶׁ֨ר הֵכִ֤ין יֹֽאשִׁיָּ֨הוּ֙ אֶת־הַבַּ֔יִת עָלָ֞ה נְכ֧וֹ מֶֽלֶךְ־מִצְרַ֛יִם לְהִלָּחֵ֥ם בְּכַרְכְּמִ֖ישׁ עַל־פְּרָ֑ת וַיֵּצֵ֥א לִקְרָאת֖וֹ יֹאשִׁיָּֽהוּ׃After all this, when Josiah had set the temple in order, Neco king of Egypt marched up to fight at Carchemish by the Euphrates, and Josiah went out to confront him. 21Hy het boodskappers na hom gestuur met die woorde: “Wat is daar tussen my en jou, koning van Juda? Ek kom vandag nie teen jou nie, maar na die huis van my oorlog; en God het gesê om my aan te jaag. Hou op met God wat by my is, sodat Hy jou nie vernietig nie.”וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח אֵלָ֣יו מַלְאָכִ֣ים׀ לֵאמֹר֩׀ מַה־לִּ֨י וָלָ֜ךְ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֗ה לֹא־עָלֶ֨יךָ אַתָּ֤ה הַיּוֹם֙ כִּ֚י אֶל־בֵּ֣ית מִלְחַמְתִּ֔י וֵאלֹהִ֖ים אָמַ֣ר לְבַֽהֲלֵ֑נִי חֲדַל־לְךָ֛ מֵאֱלֹהִ֥ים אֲשֶׁר־עִמִּ֖י וְאַל־יַשְׁחִיתֶֽךָ׃But Neco sent messengers to him, saying, “What is the issue between you and me, O king of Judah? I have not come against you today, but I am fighting another dynasty, and God has told me to hurry. So stop opposing God, who is with me, or He will destroy you!” 22Maar Josia het sy aangesig nie van hom afgedraai nie, want hy het hom vermom om teen hom te veg, en hy het nie na die woorde van Neko uit die mond van God geluister nie. Hy het gekom om te veg in die vallei van Megiddo.וְלֹֽא־הֵסֵב֩ יֹאשִׁיָּ֨הוּ פָנָ֜יו מִמֶּ֗נּוּ כִּ֤י לְהִלָּחֵֽם־בּוֹ֙ הִתְחַפֵּ֔שׂ וְלֹ֥א שָׁמַ֛ע אֶל־דִּבְרֵ֥י נְכ֖וֹ מִפִּ֣י אֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיָּבֹ֕א לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם בְּבִקְעַ֥ת מְגִדּֽוֹ׃Josiah, however, did not turn away from him; instead, in order to engage him in battle, he disguised himself. He did not listen to Neco’s words from the mouth of God, but went to fight him on the Plain of Megiddo. 23En die boogskutters het op koning Josia geskiet, en die koning het vir sy dienaars gesê: “Bring my weg, want ek is swaar gewond.”

Hy het gesterf en is begrawe in die grafte van sy vaders; en hele Juda en Jerusalem het oor Josia getreur.וַיַּֽעֲבִירֻ֨הוּ עֲבָדָ֜יו מִן־הַמֶּרְכָּבָ֗ה וַֽיַּרְכִּיבֻהוּ֮ עַ֣ל רֶ֣כֶב הַמִּשְׁנֶה֮ אֲשֶׁר־לוֹ֒ וַיּוֹלִיכֻ֨הוּ֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וַיָּ֕מָת וַיִּקָּבֵ֖ר בְּקִבְר֣וֹת אֲבֹתָ֑יו וְכָל־יְהוּדָה֙ וִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם מִֽתְאַבְּלִ֖ים עַל־יֹאשִׁיָּֽהוּ׃ פSo his servants took him out of his chariot, put him in his second chariot, and brought him to Jerusalem, where he died. They established them as a statute for Israel, and indeed they are written in the Book of Laments.
