2Toe het die woord van die HERE tot Semaja, die man van God, gekom en gesê:וַיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־שְׁמַֽעְיָ֥הוּ אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים לֵאמֹֽר׃But the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah the man of God:3“Sê vir Rehabeam, die seun van Salomo, koning van Juda, en vir die hele Israel in Juda en Benjamin:אֱמֹ֕ר אֶל־רְחַבְעָ֥ם בֶּן־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וְאֶל֙ כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בִּיהוּדָ֥ה וּבִנְיָמִ֖ן לֵאמֹֽר׃“Tell Rehoboam son of Solomon king of Judah and all the Israelites in Judah and Benjamin4‘So sê die HERE: Julle mag nie optrek nie en julle mag nie teen julle broers veg nie. Keer terug, elkeen na sy huis, want van My het hierdie saak gekom.’ ” Toe het hulle na die woorde van die HERE geluister en van die optog teen Jerobeam teruggedraai.aLetterlik: en hulle het teruggekeer van om na Jerobeam te gaan.כֹּ֣ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֡ה לֹא־תַעֲלוּ֩ וְלֹא־תִלָּ֨חֲמ֜וּ עִם־אֲחֵיכֶ֗ם שׁ֚וּבוּ אִ֣ישׁ לְבֵית֔וֹ כִּ֧י מֵֽאִתִּ֛י נִהְיָ֖ה הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה וַֽיִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּשֻׁ֖בוּ מִלֶּ֥כֶת אֶל־יָרָבְעָֽם׃ פthat this is what the LORD says: ‘You are not to go up and fight against your brothers. Each of you must return home, for this is My doing.’” So they listened to the words of the LORD and turned back from going against Jeroboam.
5Rehabeam het in Jerusalem gewoon en vestingstede in Juda gebou.וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב רְחַבְעָ֖ם בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וַיִּ֧בֶן עָרִ֛ים לְמָצ֖וֹר בִּיהוּדָֽה׃Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and he built up cities for defense in Judah.6Hy het Betlehem en Etam en Tekoa gebou,וַיִּ֧בֶן אֶת־בֵּֽית־לֶ֛חֶם וְאֶת־עֵיטָ֖ם וְאֶת־תְּקֽוֹעַ׃He built up Bethlehem, Etam, Tekoa,7en Bet-Sur en Sogo en Adullam,וְאֶת־בֵּֽית־צ֥וּר וְאֶת־שׂוֹכ֖וֹ וְאֶת־עֲדֻלָּֽם׃Beth-zur, Soco, Adullam,8en Gat en Maresa en Sif,וְאֶת־גַּ֥ת וְאֶת־מָרֵשָׁ֖ה וְאֶת־זִֽיף׃Gath, Mareshah, Ziph,9en Adoraim en Lagis en Aseka,וְאֶת־אֲדוֹרַ֥יִם וְאֶת־לָכִ֖ישׁ וְאֶת־עֲזֵקָֽה׃Adoraim, Lachish, Azekah,10en Sorea en Ajalon en Hebron, wat in Juda en Benjamin is, vestingstede.וְאֶת־צָרְעָה֙ וְאֶת־אַיָּל֔וֹן וְאֶת־חֶבְר֔וֹן אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּיהוּדָ֖ה וּבְבִנְיָמִ֑ן עָרֵ֖י מְצֻרֽוֹת׃Zorah, Aijalon, and Hebron, the fortified cities in Judah and Benjamin.11Hy het die vestings versterk en leiers daarin geplaas, en voorrade van voedsel en olie en wyn.וַיְחַזֵּ֖ק אֶת־הַמְּצֻר֑וֹת וַיִּתֵּ֤ן בָּהֶם֙ נְגִידִ֔ים וְאֹצְר֥וֹת מַאֲכָ֖ל וְשֶׁ֥מֶן וָיָֽיִן׃He strengthened their fortifications and put officers in them, with supplies of food, oil, and wine.12En in elke stad was daar skilde en spiese, en hy het hulle uitermate sterk gemaak. So het Juda en Benjamin aan hom behoort.וּבְכָל־עִ֤יר וָעִיר֙ צִנּ֣וֹת וּרְמָחִ֔ים וַֽיְחַזְּקֵ֖ם לְהַרְבֵּ֣ה מְאֹ֑ד וַיְהִי־ל֖וֹ יְהוּדָ֥ה וּבִנְיָמִֽן׃ סHe also put shields and spears in all the cities and strengthened them greatly. So Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.
13En die priesters en die Leviete wat in die hele Israel was, het hulle uit hulle hele gebied by hom aangemeld.וְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ וְהַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל הִֽתְיַצְּב֥וּ עָלָ֖יו מִכָּל־גְּבוּלָֽם׃Moreover, the priests and Levites from all their districts throughout Israel stood with Rehoboam.14Want die Leviete het hulle weivelde en hulle besitting verlaat en na Juda en Jerusalem gegaan, omdat Jerobeam en sy seuns hulle verstoot het, sodat hulle nie as priesters vir die HERE kon dien nie.כִּֽי־עָזְב֣וּ הַלְוִיִּ֗ם אֶת־מִגְרְשֵׁיהֶם֙ וַאֲחֻזָּתָ֔ם וַיֵּלְכ֥וּ לִיהוּדָ֖ה וְלִֽירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם כִּֽי־הִזְנִיחָ֤ם יָֽרָבְעָם֙ וּבָנָ֔יו מִכַּהֵ֖ן לַיהוָֽה׃For the Levites left their pasturelands and their possessions and went to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD.15En hy het vir hom priesters aangestel vir die offerhoogtes en vir die bokdemone en vir die kalwers wat hy gemaak het.aLetterlik: bokke.וַיַּֽעֲמֶד־לוֹ֙ כֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים לַבָּמ֖וֹת וְלַשְּׂעִירִ֑ים וְלָעֲגָלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה׃And Jeroboam appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat demons and calf idols he had made.
16En agter hulle aan het uit al die stamme van Israel diegene wat hulle hart daarop gerig het om die HERE, die God van Israel, te soek, na Jerusalem gekom om vir die HERE, die God van hulle vaders, te offer.aLetterlik: wat hulle hart gegee het.וְאַחֲרֵיהֶ֗ם מִכֹּל֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַנֹּֽתְנִים֙ אֶת־לְבָבָ֔ם לְבַקֵּ֕שׁ אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בָּ֚אוּ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם לִזְבּ֕וֹחַ לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃Those from every tribe of Israel who had set their hearts to seek the LORD their God followed the Levites to Jerusalem to sacrifice to the LORD, the God of their fathers.17So het hulle die koninkryk van Juda versterk en Rehabeam, die seun van Salomo, drie jaar lank sterk gemaak, want hulle het drie jaar lank in die weg van Dawid en Salomo gewandel.וַֽיְחַזְּקוּ֙ אֶת־מַלְכ֣וּת יְהוּדָ֔ה וַֽיְאַמְּצ֛וּ אֶת־רְחַבְעָ֥ם בֶּן־שְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לְשָׁנִ֣ים שָׁל֑וֹשׁ כִּ֣י הָֽלְכ֗וּ בְּדֶ֧רֶךְ דָּוִ֛יד וּשְׁלֹמֹ֖ה לְשָׁנִ֥ים שָׁלֽוֹשׁ׃So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam son of Solomon for three years, because they walked for three years in the way of David and Solomon.
18Rehabeam het vir hom 'n vrou geneem, Magalat, die dogter van Jerimot, die seun van Dawid, en van Abihail, die dogter van Eliab, die seun van Isai.וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ל֤וֹ רְחַבְעָם֙ אִשָּׁ֔ה אֶת־מָ֣חֲלַ֔ת־יְרִימ֖וֹת בֶּן־דָּוִ֑יד אֲבִיהַ֕יִל בַּת־אֱלִיאָ֖ב בֶּן־יִשָֽׁי׃And Rehoboam married Mahalath, who was the daughter of David’s son Jerimoth and of Abihail, the daughter of Jesse’s son Eliab.19En sy het vir hom seuns gebaar: Jeüs en Semarja en Saham.וַתֵּ֥לֶד ל֖וֹ בָּנִ֑ים אֶת־יְע֥וּשׁ וְאֶת־שְׁמַרְיָ֖ה וְאֶת־זָֽהַם׃She bore sons to him: Jeush, Shemariah, and Zaham.20En ná haar het hy Maäga, die dogter van Absalom, geneem, en sy het vir hom Abia en Attai en Sisa en Selomit gebaar.וְאַחֲרֶ֣יהָ לָקַ֔ח אֶֽת־מַעֲכָ֖ה בַּת־אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם וַתֵּ֣לֶד ל֗וֹ אֶת־אֲבִיָּה֙ וְאֶת־עַתַּ֔י וְאֶת־זִיזָ֖א וְאֶת־שְׁלֹמִֽית׃After her, he married Maacah daughter of Absalom, and she bore to him Abijah, Attai, Ziza, and Shelomith.21En Rehabeam het Maäga, die dogter van Absalom, liefgehad bo al sy vroue en sy byvroue, want hy het agtien vroue geneem en 60 byvroue, en hy het 28 seuns en 60 dogters verwek.וַיֶּאֱהַ֨ב רְחַבְעָ֜ם אֶת־מַעֲכָ֣ה בַת־אַבְשָׁל֗וֹם מִכָּל־נָשָׁיו֙ וּפִ֣ילַגְשָׁ֔יו כִּ֠י נָשִׁ֤ים שְׁמוֹנֶֽה־עֶשְׂרֵה֙ נָשָׂ֔א וּפִֽילַגְשִׁ֖ים שִׁשִּׁ֑ים וַיּ֗וֹלֶד עֶשְׂרִ֧ים וּשְׁמוֹנָ֛ה בָּנִ֖ים וְשִׁשִּׁ֥ים בָּנֽוֹת׃Rehoboam loved Maacah daughter of Absalom more than all his wives and concubines. In all, he had eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he was the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.22En Rehabeam het Abia, die seun van Maäga, as hoof aangestel, as leier onder sy broers, want dit was om hom koning te maak.וַיַּֽעֲמֵ֨ד לָרֹ֧אשׁ רְחַבְעָ֛ם אֶת־אֲבִיָּ֥ה בֶֽן־מַעֲכָ֖ה לְנָגִ֣יד בְּאֶחָ֑יו כִּ֖י לְהַמְלִיכֽוֹ׃Rehoboam appointed Abijah son of Maacah as chief prince among his brothers, intending to make him king.23En hy het verstandig gehandel en van al sy seuns oor al die landstreke van Juda en Benjamin verspreid, na al die vestingstede, en hy het aan hulle volop voedsel gegee en 'n menigte vroue gevra.וַיָּבֶן֩ וַיִּפְרֹ֨ץ מִכָּל־בָּנָ֜יו לְֽכָל־אַרְצ֧וֹת יְהוּדָ֣ה וּבִנְיָמִ֗ן לְכֹל֙ עָרֵ֣י הַמְּצֻר֔וֹת וַיִּתֵּ֥ן לָהֶ֛ם הַמָּז֖וֹן לָרֹ֑ב וַיִּשְׁאַ֖ל הֲמ֥וֹן נָשִֽׁים׃Rehoboam also acted wisely by dispersing some of his sons throughout the districts of Judah and Benjamin, and to all the fortified cities. He gave them abundant provisions and sought many wives for them.
