1Hanna het gebid en gesê: “My hart jubel in die HERE, my horing is verhoog in die HERE; my mond is wyd oor my vyande, want ek is bly oor U redding. At that time Hannah prayed: “My heart rejoices in the LORD; my horn is exalted in the LORD. 11En Elkana het na Rama gegaan, na sy huis. Then Elkanah went home to Ramah, but the boy began ministering to the LORD before Eli the priest.
12Maar die seuns van Eli was deugniete; hulle het die HERE nie geken nie.aLetterlik: seuns van nikswerdigheid. Now the sons of Eli were wicked men; they had no regard for the LORD13En die gebruik van die priesters teenoor die volk was: elkeen wat 'n offer geslag het — dan het die kneg van die priester gekom terwyl die vleis kook, met die vurk met die drie tande in sy hand,aOf: die reg van die priestersוּמִשְׁפַּ֥ט הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים אֶת־הָעָ֑ם כָּל־אִ֞ישׁ זֹבֵ֣חַ זֶ֗בַח וּבָ֨א נַ֤עַר הַכֹּהֵן֙ כְּבַשֵּׁ֣ל הַבָּשָׂ֔ר וְהַמַּזְלֵ֛ג שְׁלֹ֥שׁ־הַשִּׁנַּ֖יִם בְּיָדֽוֹ׃or for the custom of the priests with the people. When any man offered a sacrifice, the servant of the priest would come with a three-pronged meat fork while the meat was boiling14en hy het dit in die kom of in die ketel of in die kookpot of in die pot gesteek; alles wat die vurk opgebring het, het die priester daarmee geneem. וְהִכָּ֨ה בַכִּיּ֜וֹר א֣וֹ בַדּ֗וּד א֤וֹ בַקַּלַּ֨חַת֙ א֣וֹ בַפָּר֔וּר כֹּ֚ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר יַעֲלֶ֣ה הַמַּזְלֵ֔ג יִקַּ֥ח הַכֹּהֵ֖ן בּ֑וֹ כָּ֚כָה יַעֲשׂ֣וּ לְכָל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַבָּאִ֥ים שָׁ֖ם בְּשִׁלֹֽה׃and plunge it into the pan or kettle or cauldron or cooking pot. And the priest would claim for himself whatever the meat fork brought up. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh.15Selfs voordat hulle die vet in rook laat opgaan het, het die priester se dienaar gekom en vir die man wat geslag het, gesê: “Gee vleis om vir die priester te braai, want hy sal nie gekookte vleis van jou neem nie, maar rou.”aLetterlik: lewend. Even before the fat was burned, the servant of the priest would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast, because he will not accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.”16En die man het vir hom gesê: “Hulle moet eers die vet dadelik in rook laat opgaan, en neem dan vir jou soos jou siel begeer.” And if any man said to him, “The fat must be burned first; then you may take whatever you want,” the servant would reply, “No, you must give it to me right now. If you refuse, I will take it by force!”17En die sonde van die dienaars was baie groot voor die aangesig van die HERE, want die manne het die offergawe van die HERE verag. Thus the sin of these young men was severe in the sight of the LORD, for they were treating the LORD’s offering with contempt.
Now Samuel was ministering before the LORD—a boy wearing a linen ephod.19En sy ma het vir hom 'n klein mantel gemaak en dit jaar ná jaar vir hom opgebring wanneer sy saam met haar man opgegaan het om die jaarlikse slagoffer te slag.aLetterlik: van dae tot dae.bLetterlik: die slagoffer van die dae. Each year his mother would make him a little robe and bring it to him when she went with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice.20En Eli het Elkana en sy vrou geseën en gesê: “Mag die HERE jou nageslag gee uit hierdie vrou, in die plek van die versoek wat sy aan die HERE gevra het.” And Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, “May the LORD give you children by this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the LORD. ” Then they would go home.21Want die HERE het Hanna besoek, en sy het swanger geword en drie seuns en twee dogters gebaar. En die seun Samuel het groot geword by die HERE. So the LORD attended to Hannah, and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the LORD.
Now Eli was very old, and he heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they were sleeping with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.23Hy het vir hulle gesê: “Waarom doen julle sulke dinge, aangesien ek julle slegte dinge hoor van hierdie hele volk?”וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֔ם לָ֥מָּה תַעֲשׂ֖וּן כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֤י שֹׁמֵ֨עַ֙ אֶת־דִּבְרֵיכֶ֣ם רָעִ֔ים מֵאֵ֖ת כָּל־הָעָ֥ם אֵֽלֶּה׃“Why are you doing these things?” Eli said to his sons. “I hear about your wicked deeds from all these people.24Nee, my seuns, want die gerug wat ek hoor, is nie goed nie; julle laat die volk van die HERE oortree.aOf: julle versprei dit onder die volk van die HERE. No, my sons; it is not a good report I hear circulating among the LORD’s people.25As iemand teen iemand sondig, sal God vir hom bemiddel; maar as iemand teen die HERE sondig, wie sal vir hom bid? If a man sins against another man, God can intercede for him; but if a man sins against the LORD, who can intercede for him?” But they would not listen to their father, since the LORD intended to put them to death.26En die seun Samuel het aangehou groter en goed word, ook by die HERE en ook by die mense. And the boy Samuel continued to grow in stature and in favor with the LORD and with man.
27Toe het 'n man van God na Eli gekom en vir hom gesê: “So sê die HERE: Het Ek My nie duidelik geopenbaar aan die huis van jou vader toe hulle in Egipte by die huis van Farao was nie? Then a man of God came to Eli and told him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Did I not clearly reveal Myself to your father’s house when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh’s house?28En Ek het hom uit al die stamme van Israel vir My as priester gekies om op My altaar op te gaan, om reukwerk in rook te laat opgaan, om 'n efod voor My aangesig te dra; en Ek het aan die huis van jou vader al die vuuroffers van die Israeliete gegee.aLetterlik: seuns van Israel. And out of all the tribes of Israel I selected your father to be My priest, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in My presence.
