Now Jehoshaphat had an abundance of riches and honor, and he allied himself with Ahab by marriage.2Ná 'n aantal jare het hy afgegaan na Agab in Samaria. And some years later he went down to visit Ahab in Samaria, where Ahab sacrificed many sheep and cattle for him and the people with him and urged him to march up to Ramoth-gilead.3Agab, die koning van Israel, het vir Josafat, die koning van Juda, gesê: “Sal jy saam met my na Ramot-Gilead gaan?” Ahab king of Israel asked Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against Ramoth-gilead?” And Jehoshaphat replied, “I am as you are, and my people are your people; we will join you in the war.”
But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for the word of the LORD.”5Toe het die koning van Israel die profete bymekaargemaak, 400 man, en vir hulle gesê: “Sal ons na Ramot-Gilead gaan vir die oorlog, of moet ek ophou?” So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, four hundred men, and asked them, “Should we go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should we refrain?” “Go up,” they replied, “and God will deliver it into the hand of the king.”6Maar Josafat het gesê: “Is daar nie hier nog 'n profeet van die HERE nie, dat ons by hom kan raadpleeg?” But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there not still a prophet of the LORD here of whom we can inquire?”7Die koning van Israel het vir Josafat gesê: “Daar is nog een man by wie 'n mens die HERE kan raadpleeg, maar ek haat hom, want hy profeteer nie goed oor my nie, maar al sy dae onheil. The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say that!” So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, “Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once.”9Die koning van Israel en Josafat, die koning van Juda, het elkeen op sy troon gesit, geklee in klere, en hulle het op 'n dorsvloer gesit by die ingang van die poort van Samaria; en al die profete het voor hulle geprofeteer. Dressed in royal attire, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying before them.10En Sidkijahu, die seun van Kenaäna, het vir hom horings van yster gemaak en gesê: “So sê die HERE: Hiermee sal jy Aram stoot totdat hulle vernietig is.” Now Zedekiah son of Chenaanah had made for himself iron horns and declared, “This is what the LORD says: ‘With these you shall gore the Arameans until they are finished off.’”11En al die profete het so geprofeteer en gesê: “Trek op na Ramot-Gilead en wees voorspoedig, en die HERE sal dit in die hand van die koning gee.” And all the prophets were prophesying the same, saying, “Go up to Ramoth-gilead and triumph, for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.”12Die boodskapper wat Mikajehu gaan roep het, het met hom gepraat en gesê: “Kyk, die woorde van die profete is met een mond goed vir die koning; laat jou woord tog soos die van een van hulle wees, en spreek goed.” Then the messenger who had gone to call Micaiah instructed him, “Behold, with one accord the words of the prophets are favorable to the king. So please let your words be like theirs, and speak favorably.”13Maar Migaja het gesê: “So waar as die HERE leef, wat my God sê, dit sal ek spreek.” But Micaiah said, “As surely as the LORD lives, I will speak whatever my God tells me.”14Toe hy by die koning kom, het die koning vir hom gesê: “Mika, sal ons na Ramot-Gilead gaan vir die oorlog, of moet ek ophou?” When Micaiah arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, should we go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should we refrain?” “Go up and triumph,” Micaiah replied, “for they will be delivered into your hand.”15Die koning het vir hom gesê: “Hoeveel keer moet ek jou laat sweer dat jy niks anders as die waarheid in die naam van die HERE met my sal spreek nie?” But the king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear not to tell me anything but the truth in the name of the LORD?”16Hy het gesê: “Ek het hele Israel gesien, verstrooi oor die berge, soos skape wat geen herder het nie. Then Zedekiah son of Chenaanah went up, struck Micaiah in the face, and demanded, “Which way did the Spirit of the LORD go when He departed from me to speak with you?”24En Migaja het gesê: “Kyk, jy sal dit sien op daardie dag wanneer jy in 'n binnekamer ingaan om jou weg te steek.”aLetterlik: kamer in kamer. Micaiah replied, “You will soon see, on that day when you go and hide in an inner room.”25Die koning van Israel het gesê: “Neem Mikajehu en bring hom terug na Amon, die owerste van die stad, en na Joas, die seun van die koning,וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל קְחוּ֙ אֶת־מִיכָ֔יְהוּ וַהֲשִׁיבֻ֖הוּ אֶל־אָמ֣וֹן שַׂר־הָעִ֑יר וְאֶל־יוֹאָ֖שׁ בֶּן־הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃And the king of Israel declared, “Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king’s son,26en julle moet sê: ‘So sê die koning: Sit hierdie een in die gevangenishuis en laat hom brood van verdrukking en water van verdrukking eet totdat ek in vrede terugkeer.’”aOf: skraal brood en skraal water.וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֗ם כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ שִׂ֥ימוּ זֶ֖ה בֵּ֣ית הַכֶּ֑לֶא וְהַאֲכִלֻ֜הוּ לֶ֤חֶם לַ֨חַץ֙ וּמַ֣יִם לַ֔חַץ עַ֖ד שׁוּבִ֥י בְשָׁלֽוֹם׃and tell them that this is what the king says: ‘Put this man in prison and feed him only bread and water until I return safely.’”27En Migaja het gesê: “As jy werklik in vrede terugkom, dan het die HERE nie deur my gespreek nie.” But Micaiah replied, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Take heed, all you people!”
So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.29Die koning van Israel het vir Josafat gesê: “Ek sal my vermom en in die oorlog ingaan, maar jy, trek jou klere aan.” And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself and go into battle, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.30En die koning van Aram het die owerstes van sy strydwaens beveel en gesê: “Julle moet nie teen klein of groot veg nie, maar net teen die koning van Israel alleen.” Now the king of Aram had ordered his chariot commanders, “Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “This is the king of Israel!” So they turned to fight against him, but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him. God drew them away from him.32Toe die owerstes van die strydwaens sien dat dit nie die koning van Israel was nie, het hulle van agter hom af teruggekeer. And when the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.33Maar 'n man het sy boog argeloos gespan en die koning van Israel tussen die voeë en die pantser getref. However, a certain man drew his bow without taking special aim, and he struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. So the king said to his charioteer, “Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am badly wounded!”34Die oorlog het daardie dag toegeneem, en die koning van Israel het hom in die strydwa regop gehou teenoor Aram tot die aand; en hy het gesterf op die tyd wat die son ondergaan. The battle raged throughout that day, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening.
