Die HERE is met julle solank julle met Hom is; en as julle Hom soek, sal Hy deur julle gevind word, maar as julle Hom verlaat, sal Hy julle verlaat.וַיֵּצֵא֮ לִפְנֵ֣י אָסָא֒ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ שְׁמָע֕וּנִי אָסָ֖א וְכָל־יְהוּדָ֣ה וּבִנְיָמִ֑ן יְהוָ֤ה עִמָּכֶם֙ בִּֽהְיֽוֹתְכֶ֣ם עִמּ֔וֹ וְאִֽם־תִּדְרְשֻׁ֨הוּ֙ יִמָּצֵ֣א לָכֶ֔ם וְאִם־תַּעַזְבֻ֖הוּ יַעֲזֹ֥ב אֶתְכֶֽם׃ סSo he went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.3En baie dae lank was Israel sonder 'n God van waarheid, en sonder 'n priester wat onderrig, en sonder wet.וְיָמִ֥ים רַבִּ֖ים לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְלֹ֣א׀ אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֱמֶ֗ת וּלְלֹ֛א כֹּהֵ֥ן מוֹרֶ֖ה וּלְלֹ֥א תוֹרָֽה׃For many years Israel has been without the true God, without a priest to instruct them, and without the law.4Maar in sy nood het hy hom bekeer tot die HERE, die God van Israel, en hulle het Hom gesoek, en Hy is deur hulle gevind.aLetterlik: teruggekeer na die HERE.וַיָּ֨שָׁב֙ בַּצַּר־ל֔וֹ עַל־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיְבַקְשֻׁ֖הוּ וַיִּמָּצֵ֥א לָהֶֽם׃But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought Him, and He was found by them.5En in daardie tye was daar geen vrede vir die een wat uitgaan en vir die een wat inkom nie, want daar was baie beroeringe oor al die inwoners van die lande.וּבָעִתִּ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם אֵ֥ין שָׁל֖וֹם לַיּוֹצֵ֣א וְלַבָּ֑א כִּ֚י מְהוּמֹ֣ת רַבּ֔וֹת עַ֥ל כָּל־יוֹשְׁבֵ֖י הָאֲרָצֽוֹת׃In those days there was no safety for travelers, because the residents of the lands had many conflicts.6En hulle is vergruis, nasie teen nasie en stad teen stad, want God het hulle met allerhande benoudheid verwar.וְכֻתְּת֥וּ גוֹי־בְּג֖וֹי וְעִ֣יר בְּעִ֑יר כִּֽי־אֱלֹהִ֥ים הֲמָמָ֖ם בְּכָל־צָרָֽה׃Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city, for God afflicted them with all kinds of adversity.7Maar julle, wees sterk, en laat julle hande nie slap word nie, want daar is loon vir julle werk.”וְאַתֶּ֣ם חִזְק֔וּ וְאַל־יִרְפּ֖וּ יְדֵיכֶ֑ם כִּ֛י יֵ֥שׁ שָׂכָ֖ר לִפְעֻלַּתְכֶֽם׃ סBut as for you, be strong; do not be discouraged, for your work will be rewarded.”8En toe Asa hierdie woorde en die profesie van Oded, die profeet, hoor, het hy hom gesterk en die gruwels uit die hele land van Juda en Benjamin verwyder, en uit die stede wat hy van die gebergte van Efraim ingeneem het, en hy het die altaar van die HERE wat voor die voorportaal van die HERE gestaan het, vernuwe.וְכִשְׁמֹ֨עַ אָסָ֜א הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֗לֶּה וְהַנְּבוּאָה֮ עֹדֵ֣ד הַנָּבִיא֒ הִתְחַזַּ֗ק וַיַּעֲבֵ֤ר הַשִּׁקּוּצִים֙ מִכָּל־אֶ֤רֶץ יְהוּדָה֙ וּבִנְיָמִ֔ן וּמִן־הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לָכַ֖ד מֵהַ֣ר אֶפְרָ֑יִם וַיְחַדֵּשׁ֙ אֶת־מִזְבַּ֣ח יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֕ר לִפְנֵ֖י אוּלָ֥ם יְהוָֽה׃When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. He then restored the altar of the LORD that was in front of the portico of the LORD’s temple.9En hy het die hele Juda en Benjamin bymekaargemaak, en dié wat as vreemdelinge by hulle gewoon het uit Efraim en Manasse en uit Simeon, want baie uit Israel het na hom oorgeloop toe hulle sien dat die HERE sy God met hom was.aLetterlik: op hom geval het.וַיִּקְבֹּ֗ץ אֶת־כָּל־יְהוּדָה֙ וּבִנְיָמִ֔ן וְהַגָּרִים֙ עִמָּהֶ֔ם מֵאֶפְרַ֥יִם וּמְנַשֶּׁ֖ה וּמִשִּׁמְע֑וֹן כִּֽי־נָפְל֨וּ עָלָ֤יו מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל֙ לָרֹ֔ב בִּרְאֹתָ֕ם כִּֽי־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָ֖יו עִמּֽוֹ׃ פAnd he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, along with those from the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who had settled among them, for great numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.10En hulle het in Jerusalem bymekaargekom in die derde maand, in die vyftiende jaar van die koningskap van Asa.וַיִּקָּבְצ֥וּ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י לִשְׁנַ֥ת חֲמֵשׁ־עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה לְמַלְכ֥וּת אָסָֽא׃So they gathered together in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign.11En hulle het op daardie dag aan die HERE geoffer van die buit wat hulle gebring het: 700 beeste en 7000 kleinvee.וַיִּזְבְּח֤וּ לַיהוָה֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא מִן־הַשָּׁלָ֖ל הֵבִ֑יאוּ בָּקָר֙ שְׁבַ֣ע מֵא֔וֹת וְצֹ֖אן שִׁבְעַ֥ת אֲלָפִֽים׃At that time they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from all the plunder they had brought back.12En hulle het in die verbond ingegaan om die HERE, die God van hulle vaders, te soek met hulle hele hart en met hulle hele siel.וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ בַבְּרִ֔ית לִדְר֕וֹשׁ אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם בְּכָל־לְבָבָ֖ם וּבְכָל־נַפְשָֽׁם׃Then they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.13En elkeen wat die HERE, die God van Israel, nie sou soek nie, moes gedood word, van klein tot groot, van man tot vrou.וְכֹ֨ל אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־יִדְרֹ֛שׁ לַיהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל יוּמָ֑ת לְמִן־קָטֹן֙ וְעַד־גָּד֔וֹל לְמֵאִ֖ישׁ וְעַד־אִשָּֽׁה׃And whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, would be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.14En hulle het aan die HERE gesweer met 'n groot stem en met gejuig en met trompette en met horings.וַיִּשָּֽׁבְעוּ֙ לַיהוָ֔ה בְּק֥וֹל גָּד֖וֹל וּבִתְרוּעָ֑ה וּבַחֲצֹצְר֖וֹת וּבְשׁוֹפָרֽוֹת׃They took an oath to the LORD with a loud voice, with shouting, trumpets, and rams’ horns.15En die hele Juda was bly oor die eed, want met hulle hele hart het hulle gesweer, en met hulle hele wil het hulle Hom gesoek, en Hy is deur hulle gevind; en die HERE het hulle rus gegee rondom.וַיִּשְׂמְח֨וּ כָל־יְהוּדָ֜ה עַל־הַשְּׁבוּעָ֗ה כִּ֤י בְכָל־לְבָבָם֙ נִשְׁבָּ֔עוּ וּבְכָל־רְצוֹנָ֣ם בִּקְשֻׁ֔הוּ וַיִּמָּצֵ֖א לָהֶ֑ם וַיָּ֧נַח יְהוָ֛ה לָהֶ֖ם מִסָּבִֽיב׃And all Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it with all their heart. They had sought Him earnestly, and He was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
16En ook Maäga, die moeder van koning Asa, het hy as koninginmoeder afgesit, omdat sy vir Asjera 'n afgryslike beeld gemaak het; en Asa het haar afgryslike beeld omgekap en dit fyngestamp en in die Kidrondal verbrand.aOf: vir die gewyde paal.וְגַֽם־מַעֲכָ֞ה אֵ֣ם׀ אָסָ֣א הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ הֱסִירָהּ֙ מִגְּבִירָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־עָשְׂתָ֥ה לַאֲשֵׁרָ֖ה מִפְלָ֑צֶת וַיִּכְרֹ֤ת אָסָא֙ אֶת־מִפְלַצְתָּ֔הּ וַיָּ֕דֶק וַיִּשְׂרֹ֖ף בְּנַ֥חַל קִדְרֽוֹן׃King Asa also removed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother because she had made a detestable Asherah pole. Asa chopped down the pole, crushed it, and burned it in the Kidron Valley.17Maar die offerhoogtes is nie uit Israel weggeneem nie; net Asa se hart was volkome al sy dae.וְהַ֨בָּמ֔וֹת לֹא־סָ֖רוּ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑ל רַ֧ק לְבַב־אָסָ֛א הָיָ֥ה שָׁלֵ֖ם כָּל־יָמָֽיו׃The high places were not removed from Israel, but Asa’s heart was fully devoted all his days.18En hy het die heilige dinge van sy vader en sy eie heilige dinge in die huis van God gebring: silwer en goud en voorwerpe.וַיָּבֵ֞א אֶת־קָדְשֵׁ֥י אָבִ֛יו וְקָֽדָשָׁ֖יו בֵּ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים כֶּ֥סֶף וְזָהָ֖ב וְכֵלִֽים׃And he brought into the house of God the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.19En daar was geen oorlog nie tot die 35ste jaar van Asa se koningskap.וּמִלְחָמָ֖ה לֹ֣א הָיָ֑תָה עַ֛ד שְׁנַת־שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וְחָמֵ֖שׁ לְמַלְכ֥וּת אָסָֽא׃ סAnd there was no war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.
