1In die twaalfde jaar van Agas, koning van Juda, het Hosea, die seun van Ela, in Samaria koning geword oor Israel, nege jaar lank.בִּשְׁנַת֙ שְׁתֵּ֣ים עֶשְׂרֵ֔ה לְאָחָ֖ז מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה מָ֠לַךְ הוֹשֵׁ֨עַ בֶּן־אֵלָ֧ה בְשֹׁמְר֛וֹן עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל תֵּ֥שַׁע שָׁנִֽים׃In the twelfth year of the reign of Ahaz over Judah, Hoshea son of Elah became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria nine years. 2Hy het die kwaad gedoen in die oë van die \nd HERE\nd*, net nie soos die konings van Israel wat voor hom was nie.וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה רַ֗ק לֹ֚א כְּמַלְכֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָי֖וּ לְפָנָֽיו׃And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not like the kings of Israel who preceded him. 3Teen hom het Salmaneser, koning van Assirië, opgetrek, en Hosea het vir hom 'n dienaar geword en vir hom 'n geskenk teruggebring.עָלָ֣יו עָלָ֔ה שַׁלְמַנְאֶ֖סֶר מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֑וּר וַֽיְהִי־ל֤וֹ הוֹשֵׁ֨עַ֙ עֶ֔בֶד וַיָּ֥שֶׁב ל֖וֹ מִנְחָֽה׃Shalmaneser king of Assyria attacked him, and Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute. 4Toe vind die koning van Assirië 'n sameswering by Hosea, omdat hy boodskappers na So, koning van Egipte, gestuur het en nie, soos jaar na jaar, 'n geskenk aan die koning van Assirië opgebring het nie. Therefore the king of Assyria arrested Hoshea and put him in prison. 5Die koning van Assirië het deur die hele land opgetrek, en hy het teen Samaria opgetrek en dit drie jaar lank beleër.וַיַּ֥עַל מֶֽלֶךְ־אַשּׁ֖וּר בְּכָל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיַּ֨עַל֙ שֹׁמְר֔וֹן וַיָּ֥צַר עָלֶ֖יהָ שָׁלֹ֥שׁ שָׁנִֽים׃Then the king of Assyria invaded the whole land, marched up to Samaria, and besieged it for three years. 6In die negende jaar van Hosea het die koning van Assirië Samaria ingeneem en Israel na Assirië in ballingskap weggevoer. Hy het hulle laat woon in Chalag en by Chabor, die rivier van Gosan, en in die stede van Medië.

בִּשְׁנַ֨ת הַתְּשִׁיעִ֜ית לְהוֹשֵׁ֗עַ לָכַ֤ד מֶֽלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר֙ אֶת־שֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן וַיֶּ֥גֶל אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אַשּׁ֑וּרָה וַיֹּ֨שֶׁב אֹתָ֜ם בַּחְלַ֧ח וּבְחָב֛וֹר נְהַ֥ר גּוֹזָ֖ן וְעָרֵ֥י מָדָֽי׃ פIn the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and carried away the Israelites to Assyria, where he settled them in Halah, in Gozan by the Habor River, and in the cities of the Medes.

7Dit het gebeur omdat die Israeliete gesondig het teen die \nd HERE\nd*, hulle God, wat hulle uit die land Egipte laat optrek het, van onder die hand van Farao, koning van Egipte; en hulle het ander gode gevrees.וַיְהִ֗י כִּֽי־חָטְא֤וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לַיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם הַמַּעֲלֶ֤ה אֹתָם֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֔יִם מִתַּ֕חַת יַ֖ד פַּרְעֹ֣ה מֶֽלֶךְ־מִצְרָ֑יִם וַיִּֽירְא֖וּ אֱלֹהִ֥ים אֲחֵרִֽים׃All this happened because the people of Israel had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. וַיְחַפְּא֣וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל דְּבָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־כֵ֔ן עַל־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּבְנ֨וּ לָהֶ֤ם בָּמוֹת֙ בְּכָל־עָ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם מִמִּגְדַּ֥ל נוֹצְרִ֖ים עַד־עִ֥יר מִבְצָֽר׃The Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that were not right. From watchtower to fortified city, they built high places in all their cities. 10En hulle het vir hulle klippilare en gewyde pale opgerig op elke hoë heuwel en onder elke groen boom.וַיַּצִּ֧בוּ לָהֶ֛ם מַצֵּב֖וֹת וַאֲשֵׁרִ֑ים עַ֚ל כָּל־גִּבְעָ֣ה גְבֹהָ֔ה וְתַ֖חַת כָּל־עֵ֥ץ רַעֲנָֽן׃They set up for themselves sacred pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every green tree. 11En hulle het daar op al die hoogtes offerrook laat opgaan, soos die nasies wat die HERE voor hulle uit in ballingskap weggevoer het, en hulle het slegte dinge gedoen om die HERE te vertoorn.וַיְקַטְּרוּ־שָׁם֙ בְּכָל־בָּמ֔וֹת כַּגּוֹיִ֕ם אֲשֶׁר־הֶגְלָ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם וַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֙ דְּבָרִ֣ים רָעִ֔ים לְהַכְעִ֖יס אֶת־יְהוָֽה׃They burned incense on all the high places like the nations that the LORD had driven out before them. They did wicked things, provoking the LORD to anger. 12Hulle het die afgode gedien waarvan die \nd HERE\nd* vir hulle gesê het: “Julle mag nie hierdie ding doen nie.”וַיַּֽעַבְד֖וּ הַגִּלֻּלִ֑ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ לָהֶ֔ם לֹ֥א תַעֲשׂ֖וּ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃They served idols, although the LORD had told them, “You shall not do this thing.” 13Die \nd HERE\nd* het getuig teen Israel en teen Juda deur die hand van elke ziener en gesê: “Keer terug van julle slegte weë en onderhou my gebooie en my insettinge, volgens die hele wet wat Ek aan julle vaders beveel het en wat Ek aan julle gestuur het deur die hand van my knegte, die profete.”

וַיָּ֣עַד יְהוָ֡ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל וּבִיהוּדָ֡ה בְּיַד֩ כָּל־כָל־חֹזֶ֜ה לֵאמֹ֗ר שֻׁ֝֠בוּ מִדַּרְכֵיכֶ֤ם הָֽרָעִים֙ וְשִׁמְרוּ֙ מִצְוֺתַ֣י חֻקּוֹתַ֔י כְּכָ֨ל־הַתּוֹרָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּ֖יתִי אֶת־אֲבֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם וַֽאֲשֶׁר֙ שָׁלַ֣חְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶ֔ם בְּיַ֖ד עֲבָדַ֥י הַנְּבִיאִֽים׃Yet through all His prophets and seers, the LORD warned Israel and Judah, saying, “Turn from your wicked ways and keep My commandments and statutes, according to the entire Law that I commanded your fathers and delivered to you through My servants the prophets.” 14Maar hulle het nie geluister nie en hulle nek verhard soos die nek van hulle vaders, wat nie in die \nd HERE\nd*, hulle God, geglo het nie.וְלֹ֖א שָׁמֵ֑עוּ וַיַּקְשׁ֤וּ אֶת־עָרְפָּם֙ כְּעֹ֣רֶף אֲבוֹתָ֔ם אֲשֶׁר֙ לֹ֣א הֶאֱמִ֔ינוּ בַּֽיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃But they would not listen, and they stiffened their necks like their fathers, who did not believe the LORD their God. 15En hulle het Sy insettinge verwerp, en Sy verbond wat Hy met hulle vaders gesluit het, en Sy getuienisse waarmee Hy hulle gewaarsku het; en hulle het agter die nietigheid aan geloop en nietig geword, en agter die nasies aan wat rondom hulle was, van wie die HERE hulle beveel het om nie soos hulle te doen nie.וַיִּמְאֲס֣וּ אֶת־חֻקָּ֗יו וְאֶת־בְּרִיתוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר כָּרַ֣ת אֶת־אֲבוֹתָ֔ם וְאֵת֙ עֵֽדְוֺתָ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֵעִ֖יד בָּ֑ם וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ אַחֲרֵ֤י הַהֶ֨בֶל֙ וַיֶּהְבָּ֔לוּ וְאַחֲרֵ֤י הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר סְבִֽיבֹתָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ אֹתָ֔ם לְבִלְתִּ֖י עֲשׂ֥וֹת כָּהֶֽם׃They rejected His statutes and the covenant He had made with their fathers, as well as the decrees He had given them. They pursued worthless idols and became worthless themselves, going after the surrounding nations that the LORD had commanded them not to imitate. 16Hulle het al die gebooie van die \nd HERE\nd*, hulle God, verlaat en vir hulle 'n gegote beeld gemaak, kalwers; en hulle het 'n gewyde paal gemaak en hulle neergebuig voor die hele leër van die hemel en Baäl gedien.וַיַּעַזְב֗וּ אֶת־כָּל־מִצְוֺת֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם וַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּ לָהֶ֛ם מַסֵּכָ֖ה עֲגָלִ֑ים וַיַּעֲשׂ֣וּ אֲשֵׁירָ֗ה וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲווּ֙ לְכָל־צְבָ֣א הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וַיַּעַבְד֖וּ אֶת־הַבָּֽעַל׃They abandoned all the commandments of the LORD their God and made for themselves two cast idols of calves and an Asherah pole. They bowed down to all the host of heaven and served Baal. 17En hulle het hulle seuns en hulle dogters deur die vuur laat gaan en waarsêery beoefen en voortekens gelees, en hulle het hulleself verkoop om te doen wat kwaad is in die oë van die HERE, om Hom te vertoorn.וַֽ֠יַּעֲבִירוּ אֶת־בְּנֵיהֶ֤ם וְאֶת־בְּנֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ בָּאֵ֔שׁ וַיִּקְסְמ֥וּ קְסָמִ֖ים וַיְנַחֵ֑שׁוּ וַיִּֽתְמַכְּר֗וּ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֛ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire and practiced divination and soothsaying. They devoted themselves to doing evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking Him to anger. 18Die \nd HERE\nd* het baie toornig geword teen Israel en hulle van voor Sy aangesig verwyder. Daar het niemand oorgebly nie, behalwe die stam van Juda alleen.וַיִּתְאַנַּ֨ף יְהוָ֤ה מְאֹד֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיְסִרֵ֖ם מֵעַ֣ל פָּנָ֑יו לֹ֣א נִשְׁאַ֔ר רַ֛ק שֵׁ֥בֶט יְהוּדָ֖ה לְבַדּֽוֹ׃So the LORD was very angry with Israel, and He removed them from His presence. Only the tribe of Judah remained, 19Ook Juda het nie die gebooie van die \nd HERE\nd*, hulle God, onderhou nie, en hulle het gewandel in die insettinge van Israel wat hulle gedoen het.גַּם־יְהוּדָ֕ה לֹ֣א שָׁמַ֔ר אֶת־מִצְוֺ֖ת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ בְּחֻקּ֥וֹת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשֽׂוּ׃and even Judah did not keep the commandments of the LORD their God, but lived according to the customs Israel had introduced. 20En die HERE het die hele nageslag van Israel verwerp en hulle verdruk en hulle in die hand van plunderaars gegee, totdat Hy hulle van Sy aangesig weggewerp het.וַיִּמְאַ֨ס יְהוָ֜ה בְּכָל־זֶ֤רַע יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וַיְעַנֵּ֔ם וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖ם בְּיַד־שֹׁסִ֑ים עַ֛ד אֲשֶׁ֥ר הִשְׁלִיכָ֖ם מִפָּנָֽיו׃So the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel. He afflicted them and delivered them into the hands of plunderers, until He had banished them from His presence. 21Want Israel het hom van die huis van Dawid losgeskeur, en hulle het Jerobeam, die seun van Nebat, koning gemaak; en Jerobeam het Israel van agter die HERE af weggedryf en hulle 'n groot sonde laat sondig.

כִּֽי־קָרַ֣ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל מֵעַל֙ בֵּ֣ית דָּוִ֔ד וַיַּמְלִ֖יכוּ אֶת־יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן־נְבָ֑ט יָרָבְעָ֤ם אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וְהֶחֱטֵיאָ֖ם חֲטָאָ֥ה גְדוֹלָֽה׃When the LORD had torn Israel away from the house of David, they made Jeroboam son of Nebat king, and Jeroboam led Israel away from following the LORD and caused them to commit a great sin. 22En die Israeliete het gewandel in al die sondes van Jerobeam wat hy gedoen het; hulle het nie daarvan afgewyk nie,וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּכָל־חַטֹּ֥אות יָרָבְעָ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה לֹא־סָ֖רוּ מִמֶּֽנָּה׃The Israelites persisted in all the sins that Jeroboam had committed and did not turn away from them. 23totdat die HERE Israel van Sy aangesig verwyder het, soos Hy gespreek het deur al Sy knegte, die profete. En Israel het uit sy land in ballingskap gegaan na Assirië, tot vandag toe.עַ֠ד אֲשֶׁר־הֵסִ֨יר יְהוָ֤ה אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מֵעַ֣ל פָּנָ֔יו כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֔ר בְּיַ֖ד כָּל־עֲבָדָ֣יו הַנְּבִיאִ֑ים וַיִּ֨גֶל יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל מֵעַ֤ל אַדְמָתוֹ֙ אַשּׁ֔וּרָה עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ פFinally, the LORD removed Israel from His presence, as He had declared through all His servants the prophets. So Israel was exiled from their homeland into Assyria, where they are to this day.

24En die koning van Assirië het mense uit Babel en uit Kuta en uit Awa en uit Hamat en Sefarwaim gebring en hulle in die stede van Samaria laat woon in die plek van die Israeliete; en hulle het Samaria in besit geneem en in sy stede gewoon.וַיָּבֵ֣א מֶֽלֶךְ־אַשּׁ֡וּר מִבָּבֶ֡ל וּ֠מִכּוּ֠תָה וּמֵעַוָּ֤א וּמֵֽחֲמָת֙ וּסְפַרְוַ֔יִם וַיֹּ֨שֶׁב֙ בְּעָרֵ֣י שֹֽׁמְר֔וֹן תַּ֖חַת בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּֽרְשׁוּ֙ אֶת־שֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן וַיֵּֽשְׁב֖וּ בְּעָרֶֽיהָ׃Then the king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath, and Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria to replace the Israelites. They took possession of Samaria and lived in its towns. 25In die begin van hulle woon daar het hulle die \nd HERE\nd* nie gevrees nie; en die \nd HERE\nd* het die leeus onder hulle gestuur, en dit het hulle doodgemaak.וַיְהִ֗י בִּתְחִלַּת֙ שִׁבְתָּ֣ם שָׁ֔ם לֹ֥א יָרְא֖וּ אֶת־יְהוָ֑ה וַיְשַׁלַּ֨ח יְהוָ֤ה בָּהֶם֙ אֶת־הָ֣אֲרָי֔וֹת וַיִּֽהְי֥וּ הֹרְגִ֖ים בָּהֶֽם׃Now when the settlers first lived there, they did not worship the LORD, so He sent lions among them, which killed some of them. 26Hulle het vir die koning van Assirië gesê: “Die nasies wat u in ballingskap weggevoer en in die stede van Samaria laat woon het, ken nie die reg van die God van die land nie; en Hy het die leeus onder hulle gestuur, en kyk, hulle maak hulle dood, omdat hulle die reg van die God van die land nie ken nie.”וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ לְמֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁוּר֮ לֵאמֹר֒ הַגּוֹיִ֗ם אֲשֶׁ֤ר הִגְלִ֨יתָ֙ וַתּ֨וֹשֶׁב֙ בְּעָרֵ֣י שֹׁמְר֔וֹן לֹ֣א יָֽדְע֔וּ אֶת־מִשְׁפַּ֖ט אֱלֹהֵ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיְשַׁלַּח־בָּ֣ם אֶת־הָאֲרָי֗וֹת וְהִנָּם֙ מְמִיתִ֣ים אוֹתָ֔ם כַּאֲשֶׁר֙ אֵינָ֣ם יֹדְעִ֔ים אֶת־מִשְׁפַּ֖ט אֱלֹהֵ֥י הָאָֽרֶץ׃So they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The peoples that you have removed and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the requirements of the God of the land. Do not worship other gods, 39Maar die \nd HERE\nd*, julle God, moet julle vrees, en Hy sal julle red uit die hand van al julle vyande.”כִּ֛י אִֽם־אֶת־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם תִּירָ֑אוּ וְהוּא֙ יַצִּ֣יל אֶתְכֶ֔ם מִיַּ֖ד כָּל־אֹיְבֵיכֶֽם׃but worship the LORD your God, and He will deliver you from the hands of all your enemies.” 40Maar hulle het nie geluister nie; hulle doen eerder volgens hulle vroeëre gebruik.וְלֹ֖א שָׁמֵ֑עוּ כִּ֛י אִֽם־כְּמִשְׁפָּטָ֥ם הָֽרִאשׁ֖וֹן הֵ֥ם עֹשִֽׂים׃But they would not listen, and they persisted in their former customs. 41Hierdie nasies het die \nd HERE\nd* gevrees en hulle gesnede beelde gedien; ook hulle seuns en die seuns van hulle seuns doen soos hulle vaders gedoen het, tot vandag toe.וַיִּהְי֣וּ׀ הַגּוֹיִ֣ם הָאֵ֗לֶּה יְרֵאִים֙ אֶת־יְהוָ֔ה וְאֶת־פְּסִֽילֵיהֶ֖ם הָי֣וּ עֹֽבְדִ֑ים גַּם־בְּנֵיהֶ֣ם׀ וּבְנֵ֣י בְנֵיהֶ֗ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשׂ֤וּ אֲבֹתָם֙ הֵ֣ם עֹשִׂ֔ים עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃ פSo these nations worshiped the LORD but also served their idols, and to this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their fathers did.
