1Toe dit môre geword het, het al die leierpriesters en die oudstes van die volk beraad gehou teen Jesus, om Hom ter dood te bring.Πρωΐας δὲ γενομένης συμβούλιον ἔλαβον πάντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὥστε θανατῶσαι αὐτόν·When morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people conspired against Jesus to put Him to death.
They bound Him, led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate the governor.
3Toe Judas, wat Hom oorgelewer het, sien dat Hy veroordeel is, het hy berou gekry en die 30 silwerstukke aan die leierpriesters en oudstes teruggebringΤότε ἰδὼν Ἰούδας ὁ ⸀παραδιδοὺς αὐτὸν ὅτι κατεκρίθη μεταμεληθεὶς ⸀ἔστρεψεν τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν ⸀καὶ πρεσβυτέροιςWhen Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. Jy sal toesien.”
aSommige manuskripte lees: regverdige bloed.
οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· Τί πρὸς ἡμᾶς; σὺ ⸀ὄψῃ.“I have sinned by betraying innocent blood,” he said. “What is that to us?” they replied. “You bear the responsibility.”
5En hy het die silwerstukke in die tempel gegooi en hom onttrek; en hy het weggegaan en homself verhang.καὶ ῥίψας τὰ ἀργύρια ⸂εἰς τὸν ναὸν⸃ ἀνεχώρησεν, καὶ ἀπελθὼν ἀπήγξατο.So Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τὰ ἀργύρια εἶπαν· Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν κορβανᾶν, ἐπεὶ τιμὴ αἵματός ἐστιν·The chief priests picked up the pieces of silver and said, “It is unlawful to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”
7En nadat hulle beraad gehou het, het hulle daarmee die Veld van die Pottebakker gekoop as begraafplek vir vreemdelinge.συμβούλιον δὲ λαβόντες ἠγόρασαν ἐξ αὐτῶν τὸν Ἀγρὸν τοῦ Κεραμέως εἰς ταφὴν τοῖς ξένοις.After conferring together, they used the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners. 8Daarom is daardie veld tot vandag toe die Veld van Bloed genoem.διὸ ἐκλήθη ὁ ἀγρὸς ἐκεῖνος Ἀγρὸς Αἵματος ἕως τῆς σήμερον.That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day.
τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· Καὶ ἔλαβον τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια, τὴν τιμὴν τοῦ τετιμημένου ὃν ἐτιμήσαντο ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ,Then what was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled: “They took the thirty pieces of silver, the price set on Him by the people of Israel,
10en hulle het dit vir die akker van die pottebakker gegee, soos die Here my beveel het.”καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ κεραμέως, καθὰ συνέταξέν μοι κύριος.and they gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord had commanded me.”
Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, who questioned Him: “Are You the King of the Jews?” “You have said so,” Jesus replied. 12En terwyl Hy deur die leierpriesters en oudstes aangekla is, het Hy niks geantwoord nie.καὶ ἐν τῷ κατηγορεῖσθαι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τῶν ἀρχιερέων ⸀καὶ πρεσβυτέρων οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίνατο.And when He was accused by the chief priests and elders, He gave no answer. 13Toe sê Pilatus vir Hom: “Hoor U nie hoeveel dinge hulle teen U getuig nie?”τότε λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Πιλᾶτος· Οὐκ ἀκούεις πόσα σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν;Then Pilate asked Him, “Do You not hear how many charges they are bringing against You?” 14En Hy het hom nie op een enkele woord geantwoord nie, sodat die goewerneur hom baie verwonder het.καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ πρὸς οὐδὲ ἓν ῥῆμα, ὥστε θαυμάζειν τὸν ἡγεμόνα λίαν.But Jesus gave no answer, not even to a single charge, much to the governor’s amazement.
15By die fees was die goewerneur gewoond om een gevangene, wie hulle wou hê, vir die skare vry te laat.Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν εἰώθει ὁ ἡγεμὼν ἀπολύειν ἕνα τῷ ὄχλῳ δέσμιον ὃν ἤθελον.Now it was the governor’s custom at the feast to release to the crowd a prisoner of their choosing.
At that time they were holding a notorious prisoner named Barabbas.
17Toe hulle dan bymekaar was, het Pilatus vir hulle gesê: “Wie wil julle hê moet ek vir julle vrylaat, Jesus Barabbas of Jesus wat Christus genoem word?”
aSommige manuskripte lees: Barabbas of Jesus wat Christus genoem word?
συνηγμένων οὖν αὐτῶν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· Τίνα θέλετε ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν, ⸂Ἰησοῦν τὸν⸃ Βαραββᾶν ἢ Ἰησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον χριστόν;So when the crowd had assembled, Pilate asked them, “Which one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
18Want hy het geweet dat hulle Hom uit afguns oorgelewer het.ᾔδει γὰρ ὅτι διὰ φθόνον παρέδωκαν αὐτόν.For he knew it was out of envy that they had handed Jesus over to him.
While Pilate was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent him this message: “Have nothing to do with that innocent man, for I have suffered terribly in a dream today because of Him.”
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus put to death. En hulle het gesê: “Barabbas.”ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ἡγεμὼν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Τίνα θέλετε ἀπὸ τῶν δύο ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν; οἱ δὲ εἶπαν· ⸀Τὸν Βαραββᾶν.“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” asked the governor. “Barabbas,” they replied. Hulle sê almal: “Laat Hom gekruisig word!”λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· Τί οὖν ποιήσω Ἰησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον χριστόν; ⸀λέγουσιν πάντες· Σταυρωθήτω.“What then should I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” Pilate asked. They all answered, “Crucify Him!” 23Maar hy het gesê: “Want watter kwaad het Hy gedoen?” “What evil has He done?”
bLetterlik: Julle sal sien.
When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but that instead a riot was breaking out, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood, ” he said. “You bear the responsibility.”
All the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” 26Toe het hy Barabbas vir hulle vrygelaat, maar Jesus het hy gegesel en oorgelewer om gekruisig te word.τότε ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν, τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν φραγελλώσας παρέδωκεν ἵνα σταυρωθῇ.So Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified.
27Toe het die soldate van die goewerneur Jesus in die pretorium geneem en die hele kohort om Hom bymekaargebring.Τότε οἱ στρατιῶται τοῦ ἡγεμόνος παραλαβόντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον συνήγαγον ἐπʼ αὐτὸν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν.Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company around Him. 28En hulle het Hom ontklee en ’n skarlakenrooi mantel om Hom gehang,καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν ⸂χλαμύδα κοκκίνην περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ⸃,They stripped Him and put a scarlet robe on Him. 29en hulle het ’n kroon van dorings gevleg en dit op Sy hoof gesit, en ’n riet in Sy regterhand; en hulle het voor Hom gekniel en Hom bespot en gesê: “Wees gegroet, koning van die Jode!”καὶ πλέξαντες στέφανον ἐξ ἀκανθῶν ἐπέθηκαν ἐπὶ ⸂τῆς κεφαλῆς⸃ αὐτοῦ καὶ κάλαμον ⸂ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ⸃ αὐτοῦ, καὶ γονυπετήσαντες ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ ⸀ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ λέγοντες· Χαῖρε, ⸀βασιλεῦ τῶν Ἰουδαίων,And they twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on His head. They put a staff in His right hand, knelt down before Him, and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” 30En hulle het op Hom gespuug en die riet geneem en Hom op Sy hoof geslaan.καὶ ἐμπτύσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν ἔλαβον τὸν κάλαμον καὶ ἔτυπτον εἰς τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ.Then they spit on Him and took the staff and struck Him on the head repeatedly. After they had mocked Him, they removed the robe and put His own clothes back on Him. Then they led Him away to crucify Him.
32En toe hulle uitgaan, het hulle 'n man van Kirene gevind, Simon by die naam; hierdie een het hulle gedwing om Sy kruis te dra.Ἐξερχόμενοι δὲ εὗρον ἄνθρωπον Κυρηναῖον ὀνόματι Σίμωνα· τοῦτον ἠγγάρευσαν ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ.Along the way they found a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross of Jesus.
33En toe hulle by 'n plek kom wat Golgota genoem word, dit is, wat Skedelplek genoem word,Καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τόπον λεγόμενον Γολγοθᾶ, ὅ ἐστιν ⸂Κρανίου Τόπος λεγόμενος⸃,And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means The Place of the Skull, 34het hulle Hom wyn gegee om te drink, met gal gemeng; en toe Hy dit proe, wou Hy nie drink nie.
aSommige manuskripte lees: asyn met gal gemeng.
ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ πιεῖν ⸀οἶνον μετὰ χολῆς μεμιγμένον· καὶ γευσάμενος οὐκ ⸀ἠθέλησεν πιεῖν.they offered Him wine to drink, mixed with gall; but after tasting it, He refused to drink it.
35En nadat hulle Hom gekruisig het, het hulle Sy klere onder mekaar verdeel deur die lot te werp,σταυρώσαντες δὲ αὐτὸν διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βάλλοντες κλῆρον,When they had crucified Him, they divided up His garments by casting lots. 36en hulle het daar gesit en Hom bewaak.καὶ καθήμενοι ἐτήρουν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ.And sitting down, they kept watch over Him there. 37En hulle het bo Sy hoof die aanklag teen Hom opgesit, geskryf: “Hierdie is Jesus, die koning van die Jode.”καὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ τὴν αἰτίαν αὐτοῦ γεγραμμένην· Οὗτός ἐστιν Ἰησοῦς ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων.Above His head they posted the written charge against Him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Two robbers were crucified with Him, one on His right and the other on His left. 39En die wat verbygaan, het Hom gelaster terwyl hulle hulle hoofde skudοἱ δὲ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶνAnd those who passed by heaped abuse on Him, shaking their heads 40en sê: “Jy wat die tempel afbreek en in drie dae opbou, red Jouself! As Jy die Seun van God is, kom af van die kruis!”καὶ λέγοντες· Ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν, σῶσον σεαυτόν· εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ θεοῦ, ⸀κατάβηθι ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ.and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross!” 41Net so het ook die leierpriesters saam met die skrifgeleerdes en oudstes Hom bespot en gesê:
aSommige manuskripte lees: saam met die skrifgeleerdes en oudstes en Fariseërs.
ὁμοίως ⸀καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ ⸀πρεσβυτέρων ἔλεγον·In the same way, the chief priests, scribes, and elders mocked Him, saying,
Ἄλλους ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι· ⸀βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ ἐστιν, καταβάτω νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ καὶ πιστεύσομεν ἐπʼ ⸀αὐτόν.“He saved others, but He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him.
43Hy het op God vertrou; laat Hy Hom nou verlos as Hy Hom wil hê, want Hy het gesê: ‘Ek is die Seun van God.’”πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τὸν θεόν, ῥυσάσθω ⸀νῦν εἰ θέλει αὐτόν· εἶπεν γὰρ ὅτι Θεοῦ εἰμι υἱός.He trusts in God. Let God deliver Him now if He wants Him. For He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” 44Op dieselfde manier het ook die rowers wat saam met Hom gekruisig is, Hom verwyt.τὸ δʼ αὐτὸ καὶ οἱ λῃσταὶ οἱ συσταυρωθέντες ⸀σὺν αὐτῷ ὠνείδιζον αὐτόν.In the same way, even the robbers who were crucified with Him berated Him.
From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land.
Dit is: “My God, my God, waarom het U My verlaat?”
aAanhaling uit Psalm 22:2.
περὶ δὲ τὴν ἐνάτην ὥραν ⸀ἀνεβόησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ μεγάλῃ λέγων· ⸂Ἠλὶ ἠλὶ⸃ λεμὰ σαβαχθάνι; τοῦτʼ ἔστιν· Θεέ μου θεέ μου, ἱνατί με ἐγκατέλιπες;About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He is calling Elijah.” 48En dadelik het een van hulle gehardloop en ’n spons geneem, dit met asyn gevul en om ’n riet gesit en Hom laat drink.καὶ εὐθέως δραμὼν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ λαβὼν σπόγγον πλήσας τε ὄξους καὶ περιθεὶς καλάμῳ ἐπότιζεν αὐτόν.One of them quickly ran and brought a sponge. He filled it with sour wine, put it on a reed, and held it up for Jesus to drink.
But the others said, “Leave Him alone. Let us see if Elijah comes to save Him.”
When Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He yielded up His spirit.
51En kyk, die voorhangsel van die tempel het van bo tot onder in twee geskeur, en die aarde het gebewe, en die rotse het gesplyt,καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη ⸂ἀπʼ ἄνωθεν ἕως κάτω εἰς δύο⸃, καὶ ἡ γῆ ἐσείσθη, καὶ αἱ πέτραι ἐσχίσθησαν,At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, and the rocks were split. 52en die grafte het oopgegaan, en baie liggame van die heiliges wat ontslaap het, is opgewek,καὶ τὰ μνημεῖα ἀνεῴχθησαν καὶ πολλὰ σώματα τῶν κεκοιμημένων ἁγίων ⸀ἠγέρθησαν,The tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. 53en nadat hulle uit die grafte uitgegaan het, ná Sy opstanding, het hulle in die heilige stad ingegaan en aan baie verskyn.καὶ ἐξελθόντες ἐκ τῶν μνημείων μετὰ τὴν ἔγερσιν αὐτοῦ εἰσῆλθον εἰς τὴν ἁγίαν πόλιν καὶ ἐνεφανίσθησαν πολλοῖς.After Jesus’ resurrection, when they had come out of the tombs, they entered the holy city and appeared to many people.
When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”
55En daar was baie vroue wat van ver af toekyk, wat Jesus van Galilea af gevolg het en Hom gedien het;Ἦσαν δὲ ἐκεῖ γυναῖκες πολλαὶ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι, αἵτινες ἠκολούθησαν τῷ Ἰησοῦ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας διακονοῦσαι αὐτῷ·And many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to minister to Him. 56onder hulle was Maria Magdalena en Maria, die moeder van Jakobus en Josef, en die moeder van die seuns van Sebedeus.
aSommige manuskripte lees: Jakobus en Joses.
Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.
57En toe dit aand geword het, het 'n ryk man van Arimatea gekom, Josef by die naam, wat self ook 'n dissipel van Jesus geword het.Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης ἦλθεν ἄνθρωπος πλούσιος ἀπὸ Ἁριμαθαίας, τοὔνομα Ἰωσήφ, ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ⸀ἐμαθητεύθη τῷ Ἰησοῦ·When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who himself was a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate to ask for the body of Jesus, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. 59En Josef het die liggaam geneem en dit in ’n skoon linnedoek toegedraai,καὶ λαβὼν τὸ σῶμα ὁ Ἰωσὴφ ἐνετύλιξεν ⸀αὐτὸ σινδόνι καθαρᾷ,So Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60en dit gelê in sy nuwe graf wat hy in die rots uitgekap het, en 'n groot klip teen die deur van die graf gerol en weggegaan.καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ καινῷ αὐτοῦ μνημείῳ ὃ ἐλατόμησεν ἐν τῇ πέτρᾳ, καὶ προσκυλίσας λίθον μέγαν τῇ θύρᾳ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπῆλθεν.and placed it in his own new tomb that he had cut into the rock. Then he rolled a great stone across the entrance to the tomb and went away. 61En Maria Magdalena en die ander Maria was daar en het teenoor die graf gesit.ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ ⸀Μαριὰμ ἡ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ ἡ ἄλλη Μαρία καθήμεναι ἀπέναντι τοῦ τάφου.Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb.
62Die volgende dag, wat ná die voorbereidingsdag is, het die leierpriesters en die Fariseërs by Pilatus bymekaargekomΤῇ δὲ ἐπαύριον, ἥτις ἐστὶν μετὰ τὴν παρασκευήν, συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πρὸς ΠιλᾶτονThe next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and Pharisees assembled before Pilate. 63en gesê: “Heer, ons onthou dat daardie verleier gesê het toe Hy nog gelewe het: ‘Ná drie dae word ek opgewek.’λέγοντες· Κύριε, ἐμνήσθημεν ὅτι ἐκεῖνος ὁ πλάνος εἶπεν ἔτι ζῶν· Μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἐγείρομαι·“Sir,” they said, “we remember that while He was alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64Beveel dan dat die graf tot die derde dag beveilig word, sodat Sy dissipels nie kom en Hom steel en vir die volk sê: ‘Hy is uit die dode opgewek’ nie; en dan sal die laaste misleiding erger wees as die eerste.”
So give the order that the tomb be secured until the third day. Otherwise, His disciples may come and steal Him away and tell the people He has risen from the dead. And this last deception would be worse than the first.”
aOf: Neem ’n wag.
⸀ἔφη αὐτοῖς ὁ Πιλᾶτος· Ἔχετε κουστωδίαν· ὑπάγετε ἀσφαλίσασθε ὡς οἴδατε.“You have a guard,” Pilate said. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.”
So they went and secured the tomb by sealing the stone and posting the guard.
