1In daardie tyd het Herodes, die viervors, die berig oor Jesus gehoor,Ἐν ἐκείνῳ τῷ καιρῷ ἤκουσεν Ἡρῴδης ὁ τετραάρχης τὴν ἀκοὴν Ἰησοῦ,At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the reports about Jesus 2en hy het vir sy dienaars gesê: “Dit is Johannes die Doper; hy is uit die dode opgewek, en daarom werk die kragte in hom.”καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ· Οὗτός ἐστιν Ἰωάννης ὁ βαπτιστής· αὐτὸς ἠγέρθη ἀπὸ τῶν νεκρῶν, καὶ διὰ τοῦτο αἱ δυνάμεις ἐνεργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτῷ.and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead! That is why miraculous powers are at work in him.” 3Want Herodes het Johannes gegryp, hom geboei en in die gevangenis weggesit vanweë Herodias, die vrou van sy broer Filippus,Ὁ γὰρ Ἡρῴδης κρατήσας τὸν Ἰωάννην ἔδησεν ⸀αὐτὸν καὶ ⸂ἐν φυλακῇ ἀπέθετο⸃ διὰ Ἡρῳδιάδα τὴν γυναῖκα Φιλίππου τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ,Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, 4want Johannes het vir hom gesê: “Dit is vir jou nie geoorloof om haar te hê nie.”ἔλεγεν γὰρ ⸂αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰωάννης⸃· Οὐκ ἔξεστίν σοι ἔχειν αὐτήν·because John had been telling him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5En hoewel hy hom wou doodmaak, het hy die skare gevrees, omdat hulle hom as 'n profeet beskou het.καὶ θέλων αὐτὸν ἀποκτεῖναι ἐφοβήθη τὸν ὄχλον, ὅτι ὡς προφήτην αὐτὸν εἶχον.Although Herod wanted to kill John, he was afraid of the people, because they regarded John as a prophet. 6Toe Herodes se verjaardagfees gehou word, het die dogter van Herodias in die middel gedans en Herodes behaag,⸂γενεσίοις δὲ γενομένοις⸃ τοῦ Ἡρῴδου ὠρχήσατο ἡ θυγάτηρ τῆς Ἡρῳδιάδος ἐν τῷ μέσῳ καὶ ἤρεσεν τῷ Ἡρῴδῃ,On Herod’s birthday, however, the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod 7en daarom het hy onder eed aan haar beloof om te gee wat sy ook al sou vra.ὅθεν μετὰ ὅρκου ὡμολόγησεν αὐτῇ δοῦναι ὃ ⸀ἐὰν αἰτήσηται.so much that he promised with an oath to give to her whatever she asked. 8En sy, deur haar moeder aangespoor, sê: “Gee my hier op 'n skottel die kop van Johannes die Doper.”ἡ δὲ προβιβασθεῖσα ὑπὸ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτῆς· Δός μοι, φησίν, ὧδε ἐπὶ πίνακι τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωάννου τοῦ βαπτιστοῦ.Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” 9En bedroef het die koning vanweë die eede en dié wat saam aan tafel gesit het, beveel dat dit gegee word,καὶ ⸂λυπηθεὶς ὁ βασιλεὺς διὰ⸃ τοὺς ὅρκους καὶ τοὺς συνανακειμένους ἐκέλευσεν δοθῆναι,The king was grieved, but because of his oaths and his guests, he ordered that her wish be granted 10en hy het gestuur en Johannes in die gevangenis laat onthoof.καὶ πέμψας ἀπεκεφάλισεν ⸀τὸν Ἰωάννην ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ·and sent to have John beheaded in the prison. 11En sy kop is op 'n skottel gebring en aan die meisie gegee, en sy het dit na haar moeder gebring.καὶ ἠνέχθη ἡ κεφαλὴ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ πίνακι καὶ ἐδόθη τῷ κορασίῳ, καὶ ἤνεγκεν τῇ μητρὶ αὐτῆς.John’s head was brought in on a platter and presented to the girl, who carried it to her mother.
Then John’s disciples came and took his body and buried it. And they went and informed Jesus.
13Toe Jesus dit hoor, het Hy Hom daarvandaan in 'n skuit na 'n verlate plek teruggetrek, in afsondering; en toe die skares dit hoor, het hulle Hom te voet uit die stede gevolg.⸂Ἀκούσας δὲ⸃ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἀνεχώρησεν ἐκεῖθεν ἐν πλοίῳ εἰς ἔρημον τόπον κατʼ ἰδίαν· καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ ὄχλοι ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ πεζῇ ἀπὸ τῶν πόλεων.When Jesus heard about John, He withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. But the crowds found out about it and followed Him on foot from the towns. When He stepped ashore and saw a large crowd, He had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15Toe dit aand geword het, het die dissipels na Hom gekom en gesê: “Die plek is verlate en die uur is reeds verby; stuur die skares weg, sodat hulle na die dorpe kan gaan en vir hulleself kos koop.”ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης προσῆλθον αὐτῷ οἱ ⸀μαθηταὶ λέγοντες· Ἔρημός ἐστιν ὁ τόπος καὶ ἡ ὥρα ἤδη παρῆλθεν· ἀπόλυσον τοὺς ὄχλους, ἵνα ἀπελθόντες εἰς τὰς κώμας ἀγοράσωσιν ἑαυτοῖς βρώματα.When evening came, the disciples came to Him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the hour is already late. Dismiss the crowds so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” 16Maar Jesus het vir hulle gesê: “Hulle hoef nie weg te gaan nie; gee julle vir hulle om te eet.”ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐ χρείαν ἔχουσιν ἀπελθεῖν· δότε αὐτοῖς ὑμεῖς φαγεῖν.“They do not need to go away,” Jesus replied. “You give them something to eat.” 17Maar hulle sê vir Hom: “Ons het hier niks behalwe vyf brode en twee visse nie.”οἱ δὲ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ· Οὐκ ἔχομεν ὧδε εἰ μὴ πέντε ἄρτους καὶ δύο ἰχθύας.“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. 18En Hy het gesê: “Bring hulle hier na My toe.”ὁ δὲ εἶπεν· Φέρετέ μοι ⸂ὧδε αὐτούς⸃.“Bring them here to Me,” Jesus said. And He directed the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, He spoke a blessing. Then He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21En dié wat geëet het, was omtrent 5 000 mans, buiten vroue en kinders.οἱ δὲ ἐσθίοντες ἦσαν ἄνδρες ὡσεὶ πεντακισχίλιοι χωρὶς γυναικῶν καὶ παιδίων.About five thousand men were fed, besides women and children.
22En dadelik het Hy die dissipels gedwing om in 'n skuit te klim en voor Hom uit na die oorkant te gaan, totdat Hy die skares weggestuur het.Καὶ εὐθέως ⸀ἠνάγκασεν τοὺς μαθητὰς ἐμβῆναι ⸀εἰς πλοῖον καὶ προάγειν αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ πέραν, ἕως οὗ ἀπολύσῃ τοὺς ὄχλους.Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of Him to the other side, while He dismissed the crowds. After He had dismissed them, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone, 24Maar die skuit was al baie stadia van die land af, geteister deur die golwe, want die wind was teen.
aOngeveer 'n Stadium is ongeveer 185 meter.
τὸ δὲ πλοῖον ἤδη ⸂σταδίους πολλοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς ἀπεῖχεν⸃, βασανιζόμενον ὑπὸ τῶν κυμάτων, ἦν γὰρ ἐναντίος ὁ ἄνεμος.but the boat was already far from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
τετάρτῃ δὲ φυλακῇ τῆς νυκτὸς ⸀ἦλθεν πρὸς ⸀αὐτοὺς περιπατῶν ἐπὶ ⸂τὴν θάλασσαν⸃.During the fourth watch of the night, Jesus went out to them, walking on the sea.
When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost!” they said, and cried out in fear. 27Maar Jesus het dadelik met hulle gepraat en gesê: “Hou moed, dit is Ek; moenie vrees nie.”⸀εὐθὺς δὲ ἐλάλησεν ⸂αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς⸃ λέγων· Θαρσεῖτε, ἐγώ εἰμι· μὴ φοβεῖσθε.But Jesus spoke up at once: “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” 28En Petrus het Hom geantwoord en gesê: “Here, as dit U is, beveel my om na U toe te kom op die water.”Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ⸂αὐτῷ ὁ Πέτρος εἶπεν⸃· Κύριε, εἰ σὺ εἶ, κέλευσόν με ⸂ἐλθεῖν πρὸς σὲ⸃ ἐπὶ τὰ ὕδατα·“Lord, if it is You,” Peter replied, “command me to come to You on the water.” 29En Hy het gesê: “Kom!”
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus.
30Maar toe hy die sterk wind sien, het hy gevrees, en toe hy begin sink, het hy uitgeroep en gesê: “Here, red my.”βλέπων δὲ τὸν ἄνεμον ⸀ἰσχυρὸν ἐφοβήθη, καὶ ἀρξάμενος καταποντίζεσθαι ἔκραξεν λέγων· Κύριε, σῶσόν με.But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31En Jesus het dadelik Sy hand uitgesteek en hom gegryp en vir hom gesê: “Kleingelowige, waarom het jy getwyfel?”εὐθέως δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα ἐπελάβετο αὐτοῦ καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ· Ὀλιγόπιστε, εἰς τί ἐδίστασας;Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” 32En toe hulle in die skuit geklim het, het die wind bedaar.καὶ ⸀ἀναβάντων αὐτῶν εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ἐκόπασεν ὁ ἄνεμος.And when they had climbed back into the boat, the wind died down.
οἱ δὲ ἐν τῷ ⸀πλοίῳ προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ λέγοντες· Ἀληθῶς θεοῦ υἱὸς εἶ.Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God!”
34En toe hulle oorgesteek het, het hulle aan land gekom by Gennesaret.Καὶ διαπεράσαντες ἦλθον ⸂ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν εἰς⸃ Γεννησαρέτ.When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35En toe die mans van daardie plek Hom herken, het hulle na daardie hele omgewing berig gestuur en al die siekes na Hom gebring,καὶ ἐπιγνόντες αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ τόπου ἐκείνου ἀπέστειλαν εἰς ὅλην τὴν περίχωρον ἐκείνην, καὶ προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας,And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding region. People brought all the sick to Him 36en hulle het Hom gesmeek dat hulle net die soom van Sy kleed mag aanraak; en almal wat dit aangeraak het, is gesond gemaak.
aLetterlik: is gered.
καὶ παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν ἵνα μόνον ἅψωνται τοῦ κρασπέδου τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ· καὶ ὅσοι ἥψαντο διεσώθησαν.and begged Him just to let them touch the fringe of His cloak. And all who touched Him were healed.
