En stel wagte aan uit die inwoners van Jerusalem, elkeen op sy wagpos en elkeen teenoor sy huis.”לָהֶ֗ם לֹ֣א יִפָּֽתְח֞וּ שַׁעֲרֵ֤י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ עַד־חֹ֣ם הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ וְעַ֨ד הֵ֥ם עֹמְדִ֛ים יָגִ֥יפוּ הַדְּלָת֖וֹת וֶאֱחֹ֑זוּ וְהַעֲמֵ֗יד מִשְׁמְרוֹת֙ יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם אִ֚ישׁ בְּמִשְׁמָר֔וֹ וְאִ֖ישׁ נֶ֥גֶד בֵּיתֽוֹ׃And I told them, “Do not open the gates of Jerusalem until the sun is hot. While the guards are on duty, keep the doors shut and securely fastened. And appoint the residents of Jerusalem as guards, some at their posts and some at their own homes.” 4Die stad was ruim en groot, en die volk daarin was min, en daar was geen huise gebou nie.

I found the genealogical register of those who had first returned, and I found the following written in it:

61En dit is hulle wat opgetrek het uit Tel-Melag, Tel-Harsa, Kerub, Addon en Immer, maar hulle kon nie hulle vaderhuis en hulle nageslag aandui, of hulle van Israel was nie:וְאֵ֗לֶּה הָֽעוֹלִים֙ מִתֵּ֥ל מֶ֨לַח֙ תֵּ֣ל חַרְשָׁ֔א כְּר֥וּב אַדּ֖וֹן וְאִמֵּ֑ר וְלֹ֣א יָכְל֗וּ לְהַגִּ֤יד בֵּית־אֲבוֹתָם֙ וְזַרְעָ֔ם אִ֥ם מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הֵֽם׃The following came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer, but they could not prove that their families were descended from Israel: 62die seuns van Delaja, die seuns van Tobia, die seuns van Nekoda: 642.בְּנֵי־דְלָיָ֥ה בְנֵֽי־טוֹבִיָּ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י נְקוֹדָ֑א שֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים וּשְׁנָֽיִם׃ סthe descendants of Delaiah, the descendants of Tobiah, and the descendants of Nekoda, 642 in all.

63En van die priesters: die seuns van Hobaja, die seuns van Hakkos, die seuns van Barsillai, wat ’n vrou uit die dogters van Barsillai, die Gileadiet, geneem het en na hulle naam genoem is.וּמִן־הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים בְּנֵ֥י חֳבַיָּ֖ה בְּנֵ֣י הַקּ֑וֹץ בְּנֵ֣י בַרְזִלַּ֗י אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָ֠קַח מִבְּנ֞וֹת בַּרְזִלַּ֤י הַגִּלְעָדִי֙ אִשָּׁ֔ה וַיִּקָּרֵ֖א עַל־שְׁמָֽם׃And from among the priests: the descendants of Hobaiah, the descendants of Hakkoz, and the descendants of Barzillai (who had married a daughter of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by their name). 64Hulle het hulle geskrif gesoek onder dié wat in die geslagsregister opgeneem is, maar dit is nie gevind nie; en hulle is as onrein uit die priesterskap geweer.
