And He said:
6‘Ek is die HERE jou God, wat jou uit die land Egipte uitgelei het, uit die huis van slawe.אָֽנֹכִי֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֧ר הוֹצֵאתִ֛יךָ מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם מִבֵּ֥ית עֲבָדִֽים׃“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.7Jy mag geen ander gode voor My aangesig hê nie.aOf: naas My.לֹא־יִהְיֶ֥ה לְךָ֛ אֱלֹהִ֥ים אֲחֵרִ֖ים עַל־פָּנָֽיַ׃You shall have no other gods before Me.8Jy mag vir jou geen gesnede beeld maak nie, enige gedaante van wat in die hemel bo is, en van wat op die aarde onder is, en van wat in die water onder die aarde is.לֹֽ֣א־תַעֲשֶׂ֥ה לְךָ֥ פֶ֨סֶל֙ כָּל־תְּמוּנָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר בַּשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ מִמַּ֔עַל וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּאָ֖רֶץ מִתָּ֑חַת וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר בַּמַּ֖יִם מִתַּ֥חַת לָאָֽרֶץ׃You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.9Jy mag jou nie voor hulle neerbuig en hulle nie dien nie, want Ek, die HERE jou God, is ’n naywerige God, wat die ongeregtigheid van die vaders besoek oor die kinders, oor die derde en oor die vierde geslag van dié wat My haat,לֹא־תִשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֥ה לָהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֣א תָעָבְדֵ֑ם כִּ֣י אָנֹכִ֞י יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨יךָ֙ אֵ֣ל קַנָּ֔א פֹּ֠קֵד עֲוֺ֨ן אָב֧וֹת עַל־בָּנִ֛ים וְעַל־שִׁלֵּשִׁ֥ים וְעַל־רִבֵּעִ֖ים לְשֹׂנְאָֽי׃You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,10en wat troue liefde doen aan duisende, aan dié wat My liefhet en aan dié wat onderhou.aSommige manuskripte lees: en aan dié wat My gebooie onderhou.וְעֹ֥שֶׂה חֶ֖סֶד לַֽאֲלָפִ֑ים לְאֹהֲבַ֖י וּלְשֹׁמְרֵ֥י׃ סbut showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.
11Jy mag die naam van die HERE jou God nie ydellik dra nie, want die HERE sal nie vryspreek nie dié een wat Sy naam ydellik dra.לֹ֥א תִשָּׂ֛א אֶת־שֵֽׁם־יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ לַשָּׁ֑וְא כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יְנַקֶּה֙ יְהוָ֔ה אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־יִשָּׂ֥א אֶת־שְׁמ֖וֹ לַשָּֽׁוְא׃ סYou shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave anyone unpunished who takes His name in vain.12Onderhou die sabbatdag om dit te heilig, soos die HERE jou God jou beveel het.שָׁמ֛וֹר אֶת־י֥וֹם הַשַׁבָּ֖ת לְקַדְּשׁ֑וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוְּךָ֖ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you.13Ses dae moet jy werk en al jou werk doen,שֵׁ֤שֶׁת יָמִים֙ תַּֽעֲבֹ֔ד וְעָשִׂ֖יתָ כָּל־מְלַאכְתֶּֽךָ׃Six days you shall labor and do all your work,14maar die sewende dag is ’n sabbat vir die HERE jou God. 21En jy mag nie jou naaste se vrou begeer nie. En jy mag nie na jou naaste se huis, sy veld, en sy slaaf en sy slavin, sy os en sy donkie, en alles wat van jou naaste is, verlang nie.’וְלֹ֥א תַחְמֹ֖ד אֵ֣שֶׁת רֵעֶ֑ךָ ס וְלֹ֨א תִתְאַוֶּ֜ה בֵּ֣ית רֵעֶ֗ךָ שָׂדֵ֜הוּ וְעַבְדּ֤וֹ וַאֲמָתוֹ֙ שׁוֹר֣וֹ וַחֲמֹר֔וֹ וְכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לְרֵעֶֽךָ׃ סYou shall not covet your neighbor’s wife. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house or field, or his manservant or maidservant, or his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
22Hierdie woorde het die HERE tot julle hele vergadering gespreek op die berg, uit die middel van die vuur, die wolk en die dik duisternis, met ’n groot stem, en Hy het niks bygevoeg nie. En Hy het hulle op twee klipplate geskryf en dit aan my gegee.aOf: en dit het nie opgehou nie.אֶֽת־הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֡לֶּה דִּבֶּר֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֶל־כָּל־קְהַלְכֶ֜ם בָּהָ֗ר מִתּ֤וֹךְ הָאֵשׁ֙ הֶֽעָנָ֣ן וְהָֽעֲרָפֶ֔ל ק֥וֹל גָּד֖וֹל וְלֹ֣א יָסָ֑ף וַֽיִּכְתְּבֵ֗ם עַל־שְׁנֵי֙ לֻחֹ֣ת אֲבָנִ֔ים וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃The LORD spoke these commandments in a loud voice to your whole assembly out of the fire, the cloud, and the deep darkness on the mountain; He added nothing more. And He wrote them on two tablets of stone and gave them to me.23En toe julle die stem uit die midde van die duisternis hoor terwyl die berg met vuur brand, het julle na my toe gekom, al die hoofde van julle stamme en julle ouderlinge,וַיְהִ֗י כְּשָׁמְעֲכֶ֤ם אֶת־הַקּוֹל֙ מִתּ֣וֹךְ הַחֹ֔שֶׁךְ וְהָהָ֖ר בֹּעֵ֣ר בָּאֵ֑שׁ וַתִּקְרְב֣וּן אֵלַ֔י כָּל־רָאשֵׁ֥י שִׁבְטֵיכֶ֖ם וְזִקְנֵיכֶֽם׃And when you heard the voice out of the darkness while the mountain was blazing with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your elders approached me,24en julle het gesê: ‘Kyk, die HERE ons God het ons Sy heerlikheid en Sy grootheid laat sien, en Sy stem het ons uit die midde van die vuur gehoor. Vandag het ons gesien dat God met die mens spreek en hy bly lewe.וַתֹּאמְר֗וּ הֵ֣ן הֶרְאָ֜נוּ יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֵ֨ינוּ֙ אֶת־כְּבֹד֣וֹ וְאֶת־גָּדְל֔וֹ וְאֶת־קֹל֥וֹ שָׁמַ֖עְנוּ מִתּ֣וֹךְ הָאֵ֑שׁ הַיּ֤וֹם הַזֶּה֙ רָאִ֔ינוּ כִּֽי־יְדַבֵּ֧ר אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת־הָֽאָדָ֖ם וָחָֽי׃and you said, “Behold, the LORD our God has shown us His glory and greatness, and we have heard His voice out of the fire. Today we have seen that a man can live even if God speaks with him.25Maar nou, waarom sal ons sterf? Want hierdie groot vuur sal ons verteer. As ons voortgaan om die stem van die HERE ons God nog te hoor, dan sal ons sterf.וְעַתָּה֙ לָ֣מָּה נָמ֔וּת כִּ֣י תֹֽאכְלֵ֔נוּ הָאֵ֥שׁ הַגְּדֹלָ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את אִם־יֹסְפִ֣ים׀ אֲנַ֗חְנוּ לִ֠שְׁמֹעַ אֶת־ק֨וֹל יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֵ֛ינוּ ע֖וֹד וָמָֽתְנוּ׃But now, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us, and we will die, if we hear the voice of the LORD our God any longer.26Want wie van alle mense het die stem van die lewende God uit die midde van die vuur hoor spreek soos ons, en het bly lewe?aLetterlik: alle vlees.כִּ֣י מִ֣י כָל־בָּשָׂ֡ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֣ע קוֹל֩ אֱלֹהִ֨ים חַיִּ֜ים מְדַבֵּ֧ר מִתּוֹךְ־הָאֵ֛שׁ כָּמֹ֖נוּ וַיֶּֽחִי׃For who of all flesh has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire, as we have, and survived?27Gaan jy nader en hoor alles wat die HERE ons God sal sê, en jy, jy moet met ons spreek alles wat die HERE ons God met jou sal spreek, en ons sal dit hoor en doen.’קְרַ֤ב אַתָּה֙ וּֽשֲׁמָ֔ע אֵ֛ת כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֹאמַ֖ר יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ וְאַ֣תְּ׀ תְּדַבֵּ֣ר אֵלֵ֗ינוּ אֵת֩ כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְדַבֵּ֜ר יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֵ֛ינוּ אֵלֶ֖יךָ וְשָׁמַ֥עְנוּ וְעָשִֽׂינוּ׃Go near and listen to all that the LORD our God says. Then you can tell us everything the LORD our God tells you; we will listen and obey.”
28En die HERE het die stem van julle woorde gehoor toe julle met my gespreek het, en die HERE het vir my gesê: ‘Ek het die stem van die woorde van hierdie volk gehoor wat hulle met jou gespreek het. Alles wat hulle gespreek het, is goed.aLetterlik: Hulle het goed gedoen, alles wat hulle gespreek het.וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ק֣וֹל דִּבְרֵיכֶ֔ם בְּדַבֶּרְכֶ֖ם אֵלָ֑י וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י שָׁ֠מַעְתִּי אֶת־ק֨וֹל דִּבְרֵ֜י הָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבְּר֣וּ אֵלֶ֔יךָ הֵיטִ֖יבוּ כָּל־אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽרוּ׃And the LORD heard the words you spoke to me, and He said to me, “I have heard the words that these people have spoken to you. They have done well in all that they have spoken.29Mag hulle tog so ’n hart hê om My te vrees en al My gebooie te onderhou, al die dae, sodat dit met hulle en met hulle kinders vir ewig goed kan gaan!aLetterlik: Wie sal gee dat hierdie hart van hulle vir hulle sal wees.מִֽי־יִתֵּ֡ן וְהָיָה֩ לְבָבָ֨ם זֶ֜ה לָהֶ֗ם לְיִרְאָ֥ה אֹתִ֛י וְלִשְׁמֹ֥ר אֶת־כָּל־מִצְוֺתַ֖י כָּל־הַיָּמִ֑ים לְמַ֨עַן יִיטַ֥ב לָהֶ֛ם וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֖ם לְעֹלָֽם׃If only they had such a heart to fear Me and keep all My commandments always, so that it might be well with them and with their children forever.30Gaan sê vir hulle: “Keer terug na julle tente.”לֵ֖ךְ אֱמֹ֣ר לָהֶ֑ם שׁ֥וּבוּ לָכֶ֖ם לְאָהֳלֵיכֶֽם׃Go and tell them: ‘Return to your tents.’31Maar jy, staan hier by My, en Ek sal met jou spreek die hele gebod en die insettinge en die verordeninge wat jy hulle moet leer, en hulle moet dit doen in die land wat Ek aan hulle gee om dit in besit te neem.’וְאַתָּ֗ה פֹּה֮ עֲמֹ֣ד עִמָּדִי֒ וַאֲדַבְּרָ֣ה אֵלֶ֗יךָ אֵ֧ת כָּל־הַמִּצְוָ֛ה וְהַחֻקִּ֥ים וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר תְּלַמְּדֵ֑ם וְעָשׂ֣וּ בָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֧ר אָנֹכִ֛י נֹתֵ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם לְרִשְׁתָּֽהּ׃But you stand here with Me, that I may speak to you all the commandments and statutes and ordinances you are to teach them to follow in the land that I am giving them to possess.”32En julle moet daarop let om te doen soos die HERE julle God julle beveel het. Julle mag nie regs of links afwyk nie.וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֣ם לַעֲשׂ֔וֹת כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֛ה יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם אֶתְכֶ֑ם לֹ֥א תָסֻ֖רוּ יָמִ֥ין וּשְׂמֹֽאל׃So be careful to do as the LORD your God has commanded you; you are not to turn aside to the right or to the left.33Op die hele weg wat die HERE julle God julle beveel het, moet julle wandel, sodat julle kan lewe en dit met julle goed kan gaan en julle julle dae kan verleng in die land wat julle in besit sal neem.בְּכָל־הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֜ה יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֛ם אֶתְכֶ֖ם תֵּלֵ֑כוּ לְמַ֤עַן תִּֽחְיוּן֙ וְט֣וֹב לָכֶ֔ם וְהַאֲרַכְתֶּ֣ם יָמִ֔ים בָּאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תִּֽירָשֽׁוּן׃You must walk in all the ways that the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
