So this allotment was for the rest of the descendants of Manasseh—the clans of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These are the other male descendants of the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph.3Maar Selofgad, die seun van Hefer, die seun van Gilead, die seun van Makir, die seun van Manasse, het geen seuns gehad nie, maar net dogters; en dit is die name van sy dogters: Magla en Noa, Hogla, Milka en Tirsa. But Zelophehad son of Hepher (the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh) had no sons but only daughters. They approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders, and said, “The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” So Joshua gave them an inheritance among their father’s brothers, in keeping with the command of the LORD.5En tien dele het aan Manasse geval, behalwe die land Gilead en Basan, wat oorkant die Jordaan is.aLetterlik: tien meetsnoere. Thus ten shares fell to Manasseh, in addition to the land of Gilead and Bashan beyond the Jordan,6want die dogters van Manasse het 'n erfdeel onder sy seuns geërf; en die land Gilead het aan die oorblywende seuns van Manasse behoort.כִּ֚י בְּנ֣וֹת מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה נָחֲל֥וּ נַחֲלָ֖ה בְּת֣וֹךְ בָּנָ֑יו וְאֶ֨רֶץ֙ הַגִּלְעָ֔ד הָיְתָ֥ה לִבְנֵֽי־מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה הַנּֽוֹתָרִֽים׃because the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance among his sons. And the land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh.
Now the border of Manasseh went from Asher to Michmethath near Shechem, then southward to include the inhabitants of En-tappuah.8Aan Manasse het die land Tappuag behoort, maar Tappuag, aan die grens van Manasse, het aan die seuns van Efraim behoort. The region of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah itself, on the border of Manasseh, belonged to Ephraim.9En die grens het afgeloop na die spruit Kana, suid van die spruit. From there the border continued southward to the Brook of Kanah. There were cities belonging to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh, but the border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook and ended at the Sea.10Suidwaarts was dit vir Efraim en noordwaarts vir Manasse, en die see was sy grens. Ephraim’s territory was to the south, and Manasseh’s was to the north, having the Sea as its border and adjoining Asher on the north and Issachar on the east.11En Manasse het in Issaskar en in Aser gehad: Bet-Sean en sy dorpe, en Jibleam en sy dorpe, en die inwoners van Dor en sy dorpe, en die inwoners van En-Dor en sy dorpe, en die inwoners van Taänak en sy dorpe, en die inwoners van Megiddo en sy dorpe: die drie van die Nafet.aLetterlik: dogters.bHebreeus onduidelik. Within Issachar and Asher, Manasseh was assigned Beth-shean, Ibleam, Dor (that is, Naphath), Endor, Taanach, and Megiddo, each with their surrounding settlements.12Maar die seuns van Manasse kon die inwoners van hierdie stede nie verdryf nie, en die Kanaäniet het besluit om in hierdie land te bly. But the descendants of Manasseh were unable to occupy these cities, because the Canaanites were determined to stay in this land.13En toe die Israeliete sterk geword het, het hulle die Kanaäniete aan dwangarbeid onderwerp, maar verdryf het hulle hulle glad nie. However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they put the Canaanites to forced labor; but they failed to drive them out completely.
14Die seuns van Josef het met Josua gepraat en gesê: “Waarom het jy aan my as erfdeel net een lot en een tou gegee, terwyl ek ’n talryke volk is, aangesien die HERE my tot hiertoe geseën het?”aLetterlik: tot dat tot hier. Then the sons of Joseph said to Joshua, “Why have you given us only one portion as an inheritance? We have many people, because the LORD has blessed us abundantly.”15En Josua het vir hulle gesê: “As jy 'n groot volk is, trek op na die bos en kap daar vir jou oop in die land van die Perissiete en die Refaïete, aangesien die bergland van Efraim vir jou te nou is.” Joshua answered them, “If you have so many people that the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go to the forest and clear for yourself an area in the land of the Perizzites and the Rephaim.”16Die seuns van Josef het gesê: “Die gebergte is vir ons nie genoeg nie; en by al die Kanaäniete wat in die land van die vallei woon, is daar ysterwaens, by dié in Bet-Sean en sy dorpe en by dié in die vallei van Jisreël.”aLetterlik: Die gebergte sal vir ons nie gevind word nie.וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף לֹֽא־יִמָּ֥צֵא לָ֖נוּ הָהָ֑ר וְרֶ֣כֶב בַּרְזֶ֗ל בְּכָל־הַֽכְּנַעֲנִי֙ הַיֹּשֵׁ֣ב בְּאֶֽרֶץ־הָעֵ֔מֶק לַֽאֲשֶׁ֤ר בְּבֵית־שְׁאָן֙ וּבְנוֹתֶ֔יהָ וְלַֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּעֵ֥מֶק יִזְרְעֶֽאל׃“The hill country is not enough for us,” they replied, “and all the Canaanites who live in the valley have iron chariots, both in Beth-shean with its towns and in the Valley of Jezreel.”17Toe het Josua aan die huis van Josef gesê, aan Efraim en aan Manasse: “Jy is ’n talryke volk en jy het groot krag; daar sal nie net een lot vir jou wees nie,וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוֹשֻׁ֨עַ֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית יוֹסֵ֔ף לְאֶפְרַ֥יִם וְלִמְנַשֶּׁ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר עַם־רַ֣ב אַתָּ֗ה וְכֹ֤חַ גָּדוֹל֙ לָ֔ךְ לֹֽא־יִהְיֶ֥ה לְךָ֖ גּוֹרָ֥ל אֶחָֽד׃So Joshua said to the house of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—“You have many people and great strength.
